Praise ye the LORD. O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. | 1Hallelujah! Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; His faithful love endures forever. |
Who can utter the mighty acts of the LORD? who can shew forth all his praise? | 2Who can declare the LORD's mighty acts or proclaim all the praise due Him? |
Blessed are they that keep judgment, and he that doeth righteousness at all times. | 3How happy are those who uphold justice, who practice righteousness at all times. |
Remember me, O LORD, with the favour that thou bearest unto thy people: O visit me with thy salvation; | 4Remember me, LORD, when You show favor to Your people. Come to me with Your salvation |
That I may see the good of thy chosen, that I may rejoice in the gladness of thy nation, that I may glory with thine inheritance. | 5so that I may enjoy the prosperity of Your chosen ones, rejoice in the joy of Your nation, and boast about Your heritage. |
We have sinned with our fathers, we have committed iniquity, we have done wickedly. | 6Both we and our fathers have sinned; we have done wrong and have acted wickedly. |
Our fathers understood not thy wonders in Egypt; they remembered not the multitude of thy mercies; but provoked him at the sea, even at the Red sea. | 7Our fathers in Egypt did not grasp the significance of Your wonderful works or remember Your many acts of faithful love; instead, they rebelled by the sea--the Red Sea. |
Nevertheless he saved them for his name's sake, that he might make his mighty power to be known. | 8Yet He saved them because of His name, to make His power known. |
He rebuked the Red sea also, and it was dried up: so he led them through the depths, as through the wilderness. | 9He rebuked the Red Sea, and it dried up; He led them through the depths as through a desert. |
And he saved them from the hand of him that hated them, and redeemed them from the hand of the enemy. | 10He saved them from the hand of the adversary; He redeemed them from the hand of the enemy. |
And the waters covered their enemies: there was not one of them left. | 11Water covered their foes; not one of them remained. |
Then believed they his words; they sang his praise. | 12Then they believed His promises and sang His praise. |
They soon forgat his works; they waited not for his counsel: | 13They soon forgot His works and would not wait for His counsel. |
But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert. | 14They were seized with craving in the wilderness and tested God in the desert. |
And he gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul. | 15He gave them what they asked for, but sent a wasting disease among them. |
They envied Moses also in the camp, and Aaron the saint of the LORD. | 16In the camp they were envious of Moses and of Aaron, the LORD's holy one. |
The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan, and covered the company of Abiram. | 17The earth opened up and swallowed Dathan; it covered the assembly of Abiram. |
And a fire was kindled in their company; the flame burned up the wicked. | 18Fire blazed throughout their assembly; flames consumed the wicked. |
They made a calf in Horeb, and worshipped the molten image. | 19At Horeb they made a calf and worshiped the cast metal image. |
Thus they changed their glory into the similitude of an ox that eateth grass. | 20They exchanged their glory for the image of a grass-eating ox. |
They forgat God their saviour, which had done great things in Egypt; | 21They forgot God their Savior, who did great things in Egypt, |
Wondrous works in the land of Ham, and terrible things by the Red sea. | 22wonderful works in the land of Ham, awe-inspiring acts at the Red Sea. |
Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach, to turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them. | 23So He said He would have destroyed them-- if Moses His chosen one had not stood before Him in the breach to turn His wrath away from destroying them. |
Yea, they despised the pleasant land, they believed not his word: | 24They despised the pleasant land and did not believe His promise. |
But murmured in their tents, and hearkened not unto the voice of the LORD. | 25They grumbled in their tents and did not listen to the LORD's voice. |
Therefore he lifted up his hand against them, to overthrow them in the wilderness: | 26So He raised His hand against them with an oath that He would make them fall in the desert |
To overthrow their seed also among the nations, and to scatter them in the lands. | 27and would disperse their descendants among the nations, scattering them throughout the lands. |
They joined themselves also unto Baalpeor, and ate the sacrifices of the dead. | 28They aligned themselves with Baal of Peor and ate sacrifices offered to lifeless gods. |
Thus they provoked him to anger with their inventions: and the plague brake in upon them. | 29They provoked the LORD with their deeds, and a plague broke out against them. |
Then stood up Phinehas, and executed judgment: and so the plague was stayed. | 30But Phinehas stood up and intervened, and the plague was stopped. |
And that was counted unto him for righteousness unto all generations for evermore. | 31It was credited to him as righteousness throughout all generations to come. |
They angered him also at the waters of strife, so that it went ill with Moses for their sakes: | 32They angered the LORD at the waters of Meribah, and Moses suffered because of them; |
Because they provoked his spirit, so that he spake unadvisedly with his lips. | 33for they embittered his spirit, and he spoke rashly with his lips. |
They did not destroy the nations, concerning whom the LORD commanded them: | 34They did not destroy the peoples as the LORD had commanded them |
But were mingled among the heathen, and learned their works. | 35but mingled with the nations and adopted their ways. |
And they served their idols: which were a snare unto them. | 36They served their idols, which became a snare to them. |
Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils, | 37They sacrificed their sons and daughters to demons. |
And shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan: and the land was polluted with blood. | 38They shed innocent blood-- the blood of their sons and daughters whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan; so the land became polluted with blood. |
Thus were they defiled with their own works, and went a whoring with their own inventions. | 39They defiled themselves by their actions and prostituted themselves by their deeds. |
Therefore was the wrath of the LORD kindled against his people, insomuch that he abhorred his own inheritance. | 40Therefore the LORD's anger burned against His people, and He abhorred His own inheritance. |
And he gave them into the hand of the heathen; and they that hated them ruled over them. | 41He handed them over to the nations; those who hated them ruled them. |
Their enemies also oppressed them, and they were brought into subjection under their hand. | 42Their enemies oppressed them, and they were subdued under their power. |
Many times did he deliver them; but they provoked him with their counsel, and were brought low for their iniquity. | 43He rescued them many times, but they continued to rebel deliberately and were beaten down by their sin. |
Nevertheless he regarded their affliction, when he heard their cry: | 44When He heard their cry, He took note of their distress, |
And he remembered for them his covenant, and repented according to the multitude of his mercies. | 45remembered His covenant with them, and relented according to the riches of His faithful love. |
He made them also to be pitied of all those that carried them captives. | 46He caused them to be pitied before all their captors. |
Save us, O LORD our God, and gather us from among the heathen, to give thanks unto thy holy name, and to triumph in thy praise. | 47Save us, Yahweh our God, and gather us from the nations, so that we may give thanks to Your holy name and rejoice in Your praise. |
Blessed be the LORD God of Israel from everlasting to everlasting: and let all the people say, Amen. Praise ye the LORD. | 48May Yahweh, the God of Israel, be praised from everlasting to everlasting. Let all the people say, "Amen!" Hallelujah! |
