Then the whole company of them arose and brought him before Pilate.1Then the whole council rose and led Jesus away to Pilate.
And they began to accuse him, saying, “We found this man misleading our nation and forbidding us to give tribute to Caesar, and saying that he himself is Christ, a king.”2And they began to accuse Him, saying, “We found this man subverting our nation, forbidding payment of taxes to Caesar, and proclaiming Himself to be Christ, a King.”
And Pilate asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” And he answered him, “You have said so.”3So Pilate asked Him, “Are You the King of the Jews?” “You have said so,” Jesus replied.
Then Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowds, “I find no guilt in this man.”4Then Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowds, “I find no basis for a charge against this man.”
But they were urgent, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, from Galilee even to this place.”5But they kept insisting, “He stirs up the people all over Judea with His teaching. He began in Galilee and has come all the way here.”
When Pilate heard this, he asked whether the man was a Galilean.6When Pilate heard this, he asked if the man was a Galilean.

When Herod saw Jesus, he was very glad, for he had long desired to see him, because he had heard about him, and he was hoping to see some sign done by him.8When Herod saw Jesus, he was greatly pleased. He had wanted to see Him for a long time, because he had heard about Him and was hoping to see Him perform a miracle.

And Herod and Pilate became friends with each other that very day, for before this they had been at enmity with each other.12That day Herod and Pilate became friends; before this time they had been enemies.
Pilate then called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people,13Then Pilate called together the chief priests, the rulers, and the people,
and said to them, “You brought me this man as one who was misleading the people. And after examining him before you, behold, I did not find this man guilty of any of your charges against him.14and said to them, “You brought me this man as one who was inciting the people to rebellion. I have examined Him here in your presence and found Him not guilty of your charges against Him.
Neither did Herod, for he sent him back to us. Look, nothing deserving death has been done by him.15Neither has Herod, for he sent Him back to us. As you can see, He has done nothing deserving of death.
I will therefore punish and release him.”16Therefore I will punish Him and release Him.”

A third time he said to them, “Why? What evil has he done? I have found in him no guilt deserving death. I will therefore punish and release him.”22A third time he said to them, “What evil has this man done? I have found in Him no offense worthy of death. So after I punish Him, I will release Him.”
But they were urgent, demanding with loud cries that he should be crucified. And their voices prevailed.23But they were insistent, demanding with loud voices for Jesus to be crucified. And their clamor prevailed.
So Pilate decided that their demand should be granted.24So Pilate sentenced that their demand be met.

And as they led him away, they seized one Simon of Cyrene, who was coming in from the country, and laid on him the cross, to carry it behind Jesus.26As the soldiers led Him away, they seized Simon of Cyrene on his way in from the country, and put the cross on him to carry behind Jesus.
And there followed him a great multitude of the people and of women who were mourning and lamenting for him.27A great number of people followed Him, including women who kept mourning and wailing for Him.

For behold, the days are coming when they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren and the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!’29Look, the days are coming when people will say, ‘Blessed are the barren women, the wombs that never bore, and breasts that never nursed!’

And the people stood by, watching, but the rulers scoffed at him, saying, “He saved others; let him save himself, if he is the Christ of God, his Chosen One!”35The people stood watching, and the rulers sneered at Him, saying, “He saved others; let Him save Himself if He is the Christ of God, the Chosen One.”

One of the criminals who were hanged railed at him, saying, “Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us!”39One of the criminals who hung there heaped abuse on Him. “Are You not the Christ?” he said. “Save Yourself and us!”
But the other rebuked him, saying, “Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation?40But the other one rebuked him, saying, “Do you not even fear God, since you are under the same judgment?
And we indeed justly, for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.”41We are punished justly, for we are receiving what our actions deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.”
