The Glory of Yahweh Returns to the Temple

1  וַיּוֹלִכֵ֖נִי (And he brought me) אֶל־ (to) הַשָּׁ֑עַר (the gate), שַׁ֕עַר (the gate) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that) פֹּנֶ֖ה (is facing) דֶּ֥רֶךְ (toward) הַקָּדִֽים׃ (the east); 2  וְהִנֵּ֗ה (and behold), כְּבוֹד֙ (the glory) אֱלֹהֵ֣י (of the God) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel) בָּ֖א (came) מִדֶּ֣רֶךְ (from the way) הַקָּדִ֑ים (of the east). וְקוֹל֗וֹ (And His voice was) כְּקוֹל֙ (like the voice) מַ֣יִם (of waters); רַבִּ֔ים (many) וְהָאָ֖רֶץ (and the earth) הֵאִ֥ירָה (shone) מִכְּבֹדֽוֹ׃ (with His glory).

3  וּכְמַרְאֵ֨ה (And it was according to the appearance) הַמַּרְאֶ֜ה (of the vision) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) רָאִ֗יתִי (I saw before), כַּמַּרְאֶ֤ה (like the vision) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) רָאִ֙יתִי֙ (I had seen) בְּבֹאִי֙ (when I came) לְשַׁחֵ֣ת (to destroy) אֶת־ (-) הָעִ֔יר (the city). וּמַרְא֕וֹת (And the visions were) כַּמַּרְאֶ֕ה (like the vision) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that) רָאִ֖יתִי (I saw) אֶל־ (at) נְהַר־ (the River) כְּבָ֑ר (Kebar); וָאֶפֹּ֖ל (and I fell) אֶל־ (on) פָּנָֽי׃ (my face). 4  וּכְב֥וֹד (And the glory) יְהוָ֖ה (of YHWH) בָּ֣א (came) אֶל־ (into) הַבָּ֑יִת (the temple) דֶּ֣רֶךְ (by the way) שַׁ֔עַר (of the gate) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that) פָּנָ֖יו (has its face) דֶּ֥רֶךְ (toward) הַקָּדִֽים׃ (the east). 5  וַתִּשָּׂאֵ֣נִי (And lifted me up), ר֔וּחַ (the Spirit) וַתְּבִיאֵ֕נִי (and brought me) אֶל־ (into) הֶֽחָצֵ֖ר (the court); הַפְּנִימִ֑י (inner) וְהִנֵּ֛ה (and behold), מָלֵ֥א (filled) כְבוֹד־ (the glory) יְהוָ֖ה (of YHWH) הַבָּֽיִת׃ (the temple).

6  וָאֶשְׁמַ֛ע (And I heard) מִדַּבֵּ֥ר (one speaking) אֵלַ֖י (to me) מֵהַבָּ֑יִת (from the temple); וְאִ֕ישׁ (and the man) הָיָ֥ה (was) עֹמֵ֖ד (standing) אֶצְלִֽי׃ (beside me). 7  וַיֹּ֣אמֶר (And He said) אֵלַ֗י (to me) בֶּן־ (Son) אָדָם֙ (of man), אֶת־ (-) מְק֣וֹם (the place) כִּסְאִ֗י (of My throne), וְאֶת־ (and) מְקוֹם֙ (the place for) כַּפּ֣וֹת (the soles) רַגְלַ֔י (of My feet), אֲשֶׁ֧ר (in which) אֶשְׁכָּן־ (I will dwell) שָׁ֛ם (there) בְּת֥וֹךְ (in the midst) בְּנֵֽי־ (of the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (of Israel) לְעוֹלָ֑ם (forever), וְלֹ֣א (and not) יְטַמְּא֣וּ (will defile), ע֣וֹד (anymore) בֵּֽית־ (the house) יִ֠שְׂרָאֵל (of Israel) שֵׁ֣ם (the name), קָדְשִׁ֞י (of My holiness) הֵ֤מָּה (not they), וּמַלְכֵיהֶם֙ (and their kings), בִּזְנוּתָ֔ם (with their prostitution), וּבְפִגְרֵ֥י (and the corpses) מַלְכֵיהֶ֖ם (of their kings) בָּמוֹתָֽם׃ (at their deaths). 8  בְּתִתָּ֨ם (By their giving) סִפָּ֜ם (their threshold) אֶת־ (next to) סִפִּ֗י (My threshold), וּמְזֽוּזָתָם֙ (and their doorpost) אֵ֣צֶל (beside) מְזוּזָתִ֔י (My doorpost), וְהַקִּ֖יר (and the wall) בֵּינִ֣י (between Me) וּבֵֽינֵיהֶ֑ם (and between them) וְטִמְּא֣וּ׀ (and they have defiled) אֶת־ (-) שֵׁ֣ם (the name) קָדְשִׁ֗י (of My holiness) בְּתֽוֹעֲבוֹתָם֙ (by the abominations) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (which) עָשׂ֔וּ (they did). וָאֲכַ֥ל (And I finished off) אֹתָ֖ם (them) בְּאַפִּֽי׃ (in My anger). 9  עַתָּ֞ה (Now) יְרַחֲק֧וּ (let them remove) אֶת־ (their) זְנוּתָ֛ם (prostitution), וּפִגְרֵ֥י (and the corpses) מַלְכֵיהֶ֖ם (of their kings), מִמֶּ֑נִּי (away from Me) וְשָׁכַנְתִּ֥י (and I will dwell) בְתוֹכָ֖ם (in their midst) לְעוֹלָֽם׃ס (forever).

10  אַתָּ֣ה (You) בֶן־ (son) אָדָ֗ם (of man), הַגֵּ֤ד (describe) אֶת־ (-) בֵּֽית־ (to the house) יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ (of Israel), אֶת־ (-) הַבַּ֔יִת (the temple) וְיִכָּלְמ֖וּ (so that they may be ashamed) מֵעֲוֺנֽוֹתֵיהֶ֑ם (of their iniquities); וּמָדְד֖וּ (and let them measure) אֶת־ (-) תָּכְנִֽית׃ (the pattern). 11  וְאִֽם־ (And if) נִכְלְמ֞וּ (they are ashamed) מִכֹּ֣ל (of all) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) עָשׂ֗וּ (they have done), צוּרַ֣ת (the design) הַבַּ֡יִת (of the temple), וּתְכוּנָת֡וֹ (and its arrangement) וּמוֹצָאָ֡יו (and its exits) וּמוֹבָאָ֣יו (and its entrances) וְֽכָל־ (and all) צֽוּרֹתָ֡ו (its design) וְאֵ֣ת (and) כָּל־ (all) חֻקֹּתָיו֩ (its statutes) וְכָל־ (and all) צוּרֹתָי (its forms) וְכָל־ (and all) תּוֹרֹתוֹ (its laws) הוֹדַ֣ע (make known) אוֹתָ֔ם (to them) וּכְתֹ֖ב (and write it) לְעֵֽינֵיהֶ֑ם (before their eyes), וְיִשְׁמְר֞וּ (so that they may keep) אֶת־ (-) כָּל־ (all) צוּרָת֛וֹ (its design) וְאֶת־ (and) כָּל־ (all) חֻקֹּתָ֖יו (its ordinances) וְעָשׂ֥וּ (and do) אוֹתָֽם׃ (them).

12  זֹ֖את (This is) תּוֹרַ֣ת (the law) הַבָּ֑יִת (of the temple); עַל־ (on) רֹ֣אשׁ (the top) הָ֠הָר (of the mountain) כָּל־ (all) גְּבֻל֞וֹ (its border) סָבִ֤יב׀ (round) סָבִיב֙ (about) קֹ֣דֶשׁ (is the holy) קָדָשִׁ֔ים (of holies). הִנֵּה־ (Behold), זֹ֖את (this is) תּוֹרַ֥ת (the law) הַבָּֽיִת׃ (of the temple).

The Altar of Sacrifice

13  וְאֵ֨לֶּה (And these are) מִדּ֤וֹת (the measurements) הַמִּזְבֵּ֙חַ֙ (of the altar) בָּֽאַמּ֔וֹת (in cubits); אַמָּ֥ה (a cubit is) אַמָּ֖ה (a cubit) וָטֹ֑פַח (and a handbreadth); וְחֵ֨יק (and the base shall be) הָאַמָּ֜ה (one cubit high) וְאַמָּה־ (and one cubit), רֹ֗חַב (wide) וּגְבוּלָ֨הּ (and its rim) אֶל־ (to) שְׂפָתָ֤הּ (its edge) סָבִיב֙ (all around) זֶ֣רֶת (a span); הָאֶחָ֔ד (of one)

וְזֶ֖ה (and this is) גַּ֥ב (the height) הַמִּזְבֵּֽחַ׃ (of the altar). 14  וּמֵחֵ֨יק (And from the base) הָאָ֜רֶץ (on the ground) עַד־ (up to) הָעֲזָרָ֤ה (the ledge) הַתַּחְתּוֹנָה֙ (lower shall be) שְׁתַּ֣יִם (two) אַמּ֔וֹת (cubits), וְרֹ֖חַב (and the width) אַמָּ֣ה (cubit); אֶחָ֑ת (one) וּמֵהֳעֲזָרָ֨ה (and from the ledge) הַקְּטַנָּ֜ה (smaller) עַד־ (to) הָעֲזָרָ֤ה (the ledge) הַגְּדוֹלָה֙ (larger) אַרְבַּ֣ע (four) אַמּ֔וֹת (cubits), וְרֹ֖חַב (and the width) הָאַמָּֽה׃ (a cubit).

15  וְהַֽהַרְאֵ֖ל (And the altar hearth shall be) אַרְבַּ֣ע (four) אַמּ֑וֹת (cubits high); וּמֵהָאֲרִאֵ֣יל (and from the hearth) וּלְמַ֔עְלָה (and upward) הַקְּרָנ֖וֹת (are horns) אַרְבַּֽע׃ (four). 16  וְהָאֲרִאֵיל (And the altar hearth shall be) שְׁתֵּ֤ים (two) עֶשְׂרֵה֙ (and ten) אֹ֔רֶךְ (long), בִּשְׁתֵּ֥ים (by two) עֶשְׂרֵ֖ה (and ten) רֹ֑חַב (wide), רָב֕וּעַ (being square) אֶ֖ל (at) אַרְבַּ֥עַת (the four) רְבָעָֽיו׃ (of its corners). 17  וְהָעֲזָרָ֞ה (And the ledge shall be) אַרְבַּ֧ע (four) עֶשְׂרֵ֣ה (and ten) אֹ֗רֶךְ (long) בְּאַרְבַּ֤ע (four) עֶשְׂרֵה֙ (and ten) רֹ֔חַב (and wide) אֶ֖ל (on) אַרְבַּ֣עַת (the four) רְבָעֶ֑יהָ (of its sides) וְהַגְּבוּל (and with a rim) סָבִ֨יב (around) אוֹתָ֜הּ (it) חֲצִ֣י (half) הָאַמָּ֗ה (a cubit); וְהַֽחֵיק־ (and the base) לָ֤הּ (for it) אַמָּה֙ (a cubit) סָבִ֔יב (all around); וּמַעֲלֹתֵ֖הוּ (and its steps) פְּנ֥וֹת (shall face toward) קָדִֽים׃ (the east).

18  וַיֹּ֣אמֶר (And he said) אֵלַ֗י (to me) בֶּן־ (Son) אָדָם֙ (of man), כֹּ֤ה (thus) אָמַר֙ (says) אֲדֹנָ֣י (the Lord) יְהוִ֔ה (YHWH); אֵ֚לֶּה (These are) חֻקּ֣וֹת (the ordinances for) הַמִּזְבֵּ֔חַ (the altar) בְּי֖וֹם (on the day) הֵעָֽשׂוֹת֑וֹ (of its being made) לְהַעֲל֤וֹת (to sacrifice) עָלָיו֙ (on it), עוֹלָ֔ה (burnt offerings) וְלִזְרֹ֥ק (and to sprinkle) עָלָ֖יו (on it) דָּֽם׃ (blood). 19  וְנָתַתָּ֣ה (And you shall give) אֶל־ (to) הַכֹּהֲנִ֣ים (the priests) הַלְוִיִּ֡ם (the Levites) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (who are) הֵם֩ (those) מִזֶּ֨רַע (of the seed) צָד֜וֹק (of Zadok), הַקְּרֹבִ֣ים (who are near) אֵלַ֗י (to Me) נְאֻ֛ם (a declaration) אֲדֹנָ֥י (of the Lord) יְהוִ֖ה (YHWH) לְשָֽׁרְתֵ֑נִי (to minister to Me) פַּ֥ר (a bull) בֶּן־ (a son) בָּקָ֖ר (of the herd) לְחַטָּֽאת׃ (as a sin offering). 20  וְלָקַחְתָּ֣ (And you shall take) מִדָּמ֗וֹ (from its blood) וְנָ֨תַתָּ֜ה (and put it) עַל־ (upon) אַרְבַּ֤ע (the four) קַרְנֹתָיו֙ (horns of it) וְאֶל־ (and on) אַרְבַּע֙ (four) פִּנּ֣וֹת (the corners) הָעֲזָרָ֔ה (of the ledge), וְאֶֽל־ (and on) הַגְּב֖וּל (the rim) סָבִ֑יב (around it); וְחִטֵּאתָ֥ (and you will cleanse from sin) אוֹת֖וֹ (it) וְכִפַּרְתָּֽהוּ׃ (and make atonement for it). 21  וְלָ֣קַחְתָּ֔ (And you shall take) אֵ֖ת (-) הַפָּ֣ר (the bull) הַֽחַטָּ֑את (of the sin offering), וּשְׂרָפוֹ֙ (and burn it) בְּמִפְקַ֣ד (in the appointed place) הַבַּ֔יִת (of the temple), מִח֖וּץ (outside) לַמִּקְדָּֽשׁ׃ (of the sanctuary).

22  וּבַיּוֹם֙ (And on the day) הַשֵּׁנִ֔י (second) תַּקְרִ֛יב (you shall offer) שְׂעִיר־ (a kid) עִזִּ֥ים (of the goats) תָּמִ֖ים (unblemished) לְחַטָּ֑את (for a sin offering); וְחִטְּאוּ֙ (and they shall cleanse from sin) אֶת־ (-) הַמִּזְבֵּ֔חַ (the altar), כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר (as) חִטְּא֖וּ (they cleansed it from sin) בַּפָּֽר׃ (with the bull). 23  בְּכַלּוֹתְךָ֖ (When you have finished) מֵֽחַטֵּ֑א (cleansing from sin) תַּקְרִיב֙ (you shall bring near) פַּ֣ר (a bull) בֶּן־ (a son) בָּקָ֣ר (of the herd) תָּמִ֔ים (unblemished), וְאַ֥יִל (and a ram) מִן־ (from) הַצֹּ֖אן (the flock) תָּמִֽים׃ (unblemished). 24  וְהִקְרַבְתָּ֖ם (And you shall present them) לִפְנֵ֣י (before) יְהוָ֑ה (YHWH), וְהִשְׁלִ֨יכוּ (and shall throw) הַכֹּהֲנִ֤ים (the priests) עֲלֵיהֶם֙ (on them) מֶ֔לַח (salt) וְהֶעֱל֥וּ (and they shall offer up) אוֹתָ֛ם (them) עֹלָ֖ה (as a burnt offering) לַֽיהוָֽה׃ (to YHWH).

25  שִׁבְעַ֣ת (Seven) יָמִ֔ים (days) תַּעֲשֶׂ֥ה (you shall prepare) שְׂעִיר־ (a goat) חַטָּ֖את (for a sin offering); לַיּ֑וֹם (day by day) וּפַ֧ר (and a bull), בֶּן־ (a son) בָּקָ֛ר (of the herd) וְאַ֥יִל (and a ram) מִן־ (from) הַצֹּ֖אן (the flock), תְּמִימִ֥ים (unblemished) יַעֲשֽׂוּ׃ (they shall prepare). 26  שִׁבְעַ֣ת (Seven) יָמִ֗ים (days) יְכַפְּרוּ֙ (they shall make atonement) אֶת־ (-) הַמִּזְבֵּ֔חַ (for the altar) וְטִֽהֲר֖וּ (and purify) אֹת֑וֹ (it) וּמִלְא֖וּ (and they shall fill) יָדוֹ׃ (its hands). 27  וִֽיכַלּ֖וּ (And are completed), אֶת־ (-) הַיָּמִ֑יםס (these days) וְהָיָה֩ (and it shall come to pass), בַיּ֨וֹם (on the day), הַשְּׁמִינִ֜י (eighth) וָהָ֗לְאָה (and thereafter), יַעֲשׂ֨וּ (shall make) הַכֹּהֲנִ֤ים (the priests) עַל־ (upon) הַמִּזְבֵּ֙חַ֙ (the altar), אֶת־ (-) עוֹלֽוֹתֵיכֶם֙ (your⁺ burnt offerings) וְאֶת־ (and) שַׁלְמֵיכֶ֔ם (your⁺ peace offerings); וְרָצִ֣אתִי (and will I accept) אֶתְכֶ֔ם (you⁺) נְאֻ֖ם (a declaration) אֲדֹנָ֥י (of the Lord) יְהֹוִֽה׃ס (YHWH).
