Chambers for the Priests

1  וַיּוֹצִאֵ֗נִי (And he brought me out) אֶל־ (into) הֶֽחָצֵר֙ (the court), הַחִ֣יצוֹנָ֔ה (outer) הַדֶּ֖רֶךְ (the way) דֶּ֣רֶךְ (toward) הַצָּפ֑וֹן (the north); וַיְבִאֵ֣נִי (and he brought me) אֶל־ (into) הַלִּשְׁכָּ֗ה (the chamber) אֲשֶׁ֨ר (that was) נֶ֧גֶד (opposite) הַגִּזְרָ֛ה (the separating courtyard), וַאֲשֶֽׁר־ (and that) נֶ֥גֶד (opposite) הַבִּנְיָ֖ן (the building) אֶל־ (toward) הַצָּפֽוֹן׃ (the north). 2  אֶל־ (Toward) פְּנֵי־ (the face) אֹ֙רֶךְ֙ (of its length) אַמּ֣וֹת (was cubits) הַמֵּאָ֔ה (a hundred) פֶּ֖תַח (with the door), הַצָּפ֑וֹן (to the north) וְהָרֹ֖חַב (and the width) חֲמִשִּׁ֥ים (was fifty) אַמּֽוֹת׃ (cubits). 3  נֶ֣גֶד (Opposite) הָֽעֶשְׂרִ֗ים (the twenty cubits) אֲשֶׁר֙ (that were) לֶחָצֵ֣ר (for the court), הַפְּנִימִ֔י (inner) וְנֶ֣גֶד (and opposite) רִֽצְפָ֔ה (the pavement) אֲשֶׁ֖ר (-) לֶחָצֵ֣ר (for the court), הַחִֽיצוֹנָ֑ה (outer) אַתִּ֥יק (was a gallery) אֶל־ (to) פְּנֵֽי־ (the face) אַתִּ֖יק (of a gallery) בַּשְּׁלִשִֽׁים׃ (in three parts).

4  וְלִפְנֵ֨י (And before the face) הַלְּשָׁכ֜וֹת (of the chambers) מַהֲלַךְ֩ (was a walkway) עֶ֨שֶׂר (ten) אַמּ֥וֹת (cubits) רֹ֙חַב֙ (wide) אֶל־ (to) הַפְּנִימִ֔ית (the inside), דֶּ֖רֶךְ (and a way) אַמָּ֣ה (of cubit); אֶחָ֑ת (one) וּפִתְחֵיהֶ֖ם (and their doors) לַצָּפֽוֹן׃ (were to the north).

5  וְהַלְּשָׁכ֥וֹת (And the chambers) הָעֶלְיוֹנֹ֖ת (upper) קְצֻר֑וֹת (were shorter); כִּֽי־ (for) יוֹכְל֨וּ (took away) אַתִּיקִ֜ים (the galleries) מֵהֵ֗נָה (from them), מֵֽהַתַּחְתֹּנ֛וֹת (on the lower), וּמֵהַתִּֽכֹנ֖וֹת (and middle) בִּנְיָֽן׃ (of the building). 6  כִּ֤י (For) מְשֻׁלָּשׁוֹת֙ (in three parts) הֵ֔נָּה (they were) וְאֵ֤ין (and there was not) לָהֶן֙ (unto them) עַמּוּדִ֔ים (pillars) כְּעַמּוּדֵ֖י (like the pillars) הַחֲצֵר֑וֹת (of the courts); עַל־ (upon) כֵּ֣ן (thus) נֶאֱצַ֗ל (it was shortened) מֵהַתַּחְתּוֹנ֛וֹת (more than the lower) וּמֵהַתִּֽיכֹנ֖וֹת (and middle) מֵהָאָֽרֶץ׃ (from the ground). 7  וְגָדֵ֤ר (And there was a wall) אֲשֶׁר־ (that was) לַחוּץ֙ (on the outside) לְעֻמַּ֣ת (was over against) הַלְּשָׁכ֔וֹת (the chambers), דֶּ֛רֶךְ (toward) הֶחָצֵ֥ר (the court) הַחִֽצוֹנָ֖ה (outer) אֶל־ (toward) פְּנֵ֣י (the face) הַלְּשָׁכ֑וֹת (of the chambers), אָרְכּ֖וֹ (its length was) חֲמִשִּׁ֥ים (fifty) אַמָּֽה׃ (cubits). 8  כִּֽי־ (For) אֹ֣רֶךְ (the length) הַלְּשָׁכ֗וֹת (of the chambers) אֲשֶׁ֛ר (that were) לֶחָצֵ֥ר (toward the court) הַחִֽצוֹנָ֖ה (outer) חֲמִשִּׁ֣ים (was fifty) אַמָּ֑ה (cubits); וְהִנֵּ֛ה (and, behold), עַל־ (upon) פְּנֵ֥י (those facing) הַהֵיכָ֖ל (the temple) מֵאָ֥ה (was a hundred) אַמָּֽה׃ (cubits). 9  וּמִתַּחֲתָה (And below) לְּשָׁכוֹת (the chambers) הָאֵ֑לֶּה (these) הַמָּבוֹא (was the entry) מֵֽהַקָּדִ֔ים (on the east), בְּבֹא֣וֹ (as one enters) לָהֵ֔נָּה (them) מֵֽהֶחָצֵ֖ר (from the court) הַחִצֹנָֽה׃ (outer).

10  בְּרֹ֣חַב׀ (Along the length) גֶּ֣דֶר (of the wall) הֶחָצֵ֗ר (of the court) דֶּ֧רֶךְ (toward) הַקָּדִ֛ים (the east), אֶל־ (toward) פְּנֵ֧י (the face) הַגִּזְרָ֛ה (of the separating courtyard), וְאֶל־ (and toward) פְּנֵ֥י (the face) הַבִּנְיָ֖ן (of the building) לְשָׁכֽוֹת׃ (were chambers). 11  וְדֶ֙רֶךְ֙ (And a pathway) לִפְנֵיהֶ֔ם (before them) כְּמַרְאֵ֣ה (the appearance) הַלְּשָׁכ֗וֹת (of the chambers) אֲשֶׁר֙ (that were) דֶּ֣רֶךְ (toward) הַצָּפ֔וֹן (the north), כְּאָרְכָּ֖ן (like their length) כֵּ֣ן (so) רָחְבָּ֑ן (their width) וְכֹל֙ (and all) מוֹצָ֣אֵיהֶ֔ן (their exits) וּכְמִשְׁפְּטֵיהֶ֖ן (and according to their fashions), וּכְפִתְחֵיהֶֽן׃ (and according to their doors). 12  וּכְפִתְחֵ֣י (And according to their doors) הַלְּשָׁכ֗וֹת (of the chambers) אֲשֶׁר֙ (that were) דֶּ֣רֶךְ (toward) הַדָּר֔וֹם (the south) פֶּ֖תַח (a door was) בְּרֹ֣אשׁ (at the head) דָּ֑רֶךְ (of the path), דֶּ֗רֶךְ (way) בִּפְנֵי֙ (at the face) הַגְּדֶ֣רֶת (of the wall) הֲגִינָ֔ה (directly) דֶּ֥רֶךְ (toward) הַקָּדִ֖ים (the east), בְּבוֹאָֽן׃ (in entering them).

13  וַיֹּ֣אמֶר (And he said) אֵלַ֗י (to me) לִֽשְׁכ֨וֹת (The chambers to) הַצָּפ֜וֹן (the north) לִֽשְׁכ֣וֹת (and the chambers to), הַדָּרוֹם֮ (the south) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (which are) אֶל־ (toward) פְּנֵ֣י (the face) הַגִּזְרָה֒ (of the separating courtyard), הֵ֣נָּה׀ (they are) לִֽשְׁכ֣וֹת (the chambers), הַקֹּ֗דֶשׁ (of holiness) אֲשֶׁ֨ר (in which) יֹאכְלוּ־ (will eat) שָׁ֧ם (there) הַכֹּהֲנִ֛ים (the priests) אֲשֶׁר־ (those who) קְרוֹבִ֥ים (nearest) לַֽיהוָ֖ה (to YHWH) קָדְשֵׁ֣י (the holy) הַקֳּדָשִׁ֑ים (of holies); שָׁ֞ם (there) יַנִּ֣יחוּ׀ (they will lay) קָדְשֵׁ֣י (the holy) הַקֳּדָשִׁ֗ים (of holies), וְהַמִּנְחָה֙ (and the grain offering), וְהַחַטָּ֣את (and the sin offering), וְהָאָשָׁ֔ם (and the guilt offering); כִּ֥י (for) הַמָּק֖וֹם (the place is) קָדֹֽשׁ׃ (holy). 14  בְּבֹאָ֣ם (With the entering of) הַכֹּהֲנִ֗ים (the priests) וְלֹֽא־ (not) יֵצְא֤וּ (will they go out) מֵהַקֹּ֙דֶשׁ֙ (the holy area) אֶל־ (into) הֶחָצֵ֣ר (the court), הַחִיצוֹנָ֔ה (outer) וְשָׁ֞ם (and there) יַנִּ֧יחוּ (they will leave) בִגְדֵיהֶ֛ם (their garments) אֲשֶׁר־ (with which) יְשָׁרְת֥וּ (they minister); בָהֶ֖ן (in them) כִּֽי־ (for) קֹ֣דֶשׁ (holy); הֵ֑נָּה (they are) יִלְבְּשׁוּ (and they will put on) בְּגָדִ֣ים (garments), אֲחֵרִ֔ים (other) וְקָרְב֖וּ (they may come near) אֶל־ (to) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that which) לָעָֽם׃ (is for the people).

The Outer Measurements

15  וְכִלָּ֗ה (And he had completed) אֶת־ (-) מִדּוֹת֙ (the measurements) הַבַּ֣יִת (of the temple), הַפְּנִימִ֔י (inner) וְהוֹצִיאַ֙נִי֙ (and he brought me out) דֶּ֣רֶךְ (through) הַשַּׁ֔עַר (the gateway) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (which) פָּנָ֖יו (has its face) דֶּ֣רֶךְ (toward) הַקָּדִ֑ים (the east), וּמְדָד֖וֹ (and he measured it) סָבִ֥יב׀ (round) סָבִֽיב׃ (about).

16  מָדַ֛ד (He measured) ר֥וּחַ (the side to) הַקָּדִ֖ים (the east) בִּקְנֵ֣ה (with a rod for), הַמִּדָּ֑ה (the measuring) חֲמֵשׁ־ (five) אֵמוֹת (hundred) קָנִ֛ים (rods), בִּקְנֵ֥ה (by the rod for) הַמִּדָּ֖ה (measuring) סָבִֽיב׃ (all around).

17  מָדַ֖ד (He measured) ר֣וּחַ (the side to), הַצָּפ֑וֹן (the north) חֲמֵשׁ־ (five) מֵא֥וֹת (hundred) קָנִ֛ים (rods), בִּקְנֵ֥ה (by the rod for) הַמִּדָּ֖ה (measuring) סָבִֽיב׃ (all around).

18  אֵ֛ת (-) ר֥וּחַ (the side to), הַדָּר֖וֹם (the south) מָדָ֑ד (he measured) חֲמֵשׁ־ (five) מֵא֥וֹת (hundred) קָנִ֖ים (rods), בִּקְנֵ֥ה (by the rod for) הַמִּדָּֽה׃ (measuring).

19  סָבַ֖ב (He came around) אֶל־ (to) ר֣וּחַ (the side to), הַיָּ֑ם (the west) מָדַ֛ד (he measured) חֲמֵשׁ־ (five) מֵא֥וֹת (hundred) קָנִ֖ים (rods) בִּקְנֵ֥ה (by the rod for) הַמִּדָּֽה׃ (measuring).

20  לְאַרְבַּ֨ע (At the four) רוּח֜וֹת (sides); מְדָד֗וֹ (he measured it) ח֤וֹמָה (a wall was) לוֹ֙ (unto it) סָבִ֣יב׀ (round) סָבִ֔יב (about), אֹ֚רֶךְ (a length of), חֲמֵ֣שׁ (five) מֵא֔וֹת (hundred) וְרֹ֖חַב (and a width of), חֲמֵ֣שׁ (five) מֵא֑וֹת (hundred) לְהַבְדִּ֕יל (to separate) בֵּ֥ין (between) הַקֹּ֖דֶשׁ (the holy) לְחֹֽל׃ (and the common).
