1When Iesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where was a garden into the which he entered with his disciples. 2(Iudas also which betrayed him knew the place, for Iesus oftentimes resorted thither with his disciples.) 3Iudas then after he had received a bond of men, and ministers of the high priests, and of the pharises came thither with lanterns, and firebrands, and weapons. 4Then Iesus knowing all things that should come on him, went forth and said unto them: whom seek ye? 5They answered him: Iesus of Nazareth. Iesus said unto them: I am he. Iudas also which betrayed him, stood with them. 6As soon as he had said unto them I am he, they went backwards and fell to the ground. 7And he asked them again: whom seek ye? They said: Iesus of Nazareth. 8Iesus answered, I said unto you, I am he. If ye seek me, let these go their way. 9That the saying might be fulfilled which he spake: of them which thou gavest have I not lost one. 10Simon Peter had a sword, and drew him out, and smote the high priest's servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus. 11Then said Iesus unto Peter: put up thy sword into the sheath: shall I not drink of the cup which my father had given me?

12Then the company, and the Captain, and the ministers of the jewes, took Iesus and bound him, 13and led him away to Anna first: For he was father-in-law unto Caiphas, which was the high priest that same year. 14Caiphas was he that gave counsel to the jewes that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.

15Simon Peter followed Iesus, and another disciple, that disciple was known of the high priest, and went in with Iesus into the palace of the high priest. 16But Peter stood at the door without. Then went out that other disciple which was known unto the high priest, and spake to the damsel that kept the door, and brought in Peter. 17Then said the damsel that kept the door unto Peter: Art not thou one of this man's disciples? He said: I am not. 18The servants and the ministers stood there, and had made a fire of coals. For it was cold, and they warmed themselves. Peter also stood among them and warmed himself.

19The high priest asked Iesus of his disciples, and of his doctrine. 20Iesus answered him: I spake openly in the world. I ever taught in the synagogue and in the temple whither all the jewes resorted: and in secret have I said nothing: 21why askest thou me? Ask them which heard me what I said unto them. Behold they can tell what I said. 22When he had thus spoken, one of the ministers which stood by, smote Iesus on the face saying: Answerest thou the high priest so? 23Iesus answered him: If I have evil spoken, bear witness of the evil: if I have well spoken, why smitest thou me? 24Annas sent him bound unto Caiphas the high priest.

25Simon Peter stood and warmed himself, and they said unto him: Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said: I am not. 26One of the servants of the high priest (his cousin whose ear Peter smote off) said unto him: did not I see thee in the garden with him? 27Peter denied it again: and immediately the cock crew.

28Then led they Iesus from Caiphas into the hall of judgement. It was in the morning, and they themselves went not into the judgement house lest they should be defiled, but that they might eat Pascha. 29Pilate then went out unto them and said: What accusation bring ye against this man? 30They answered and said unto him: If he were not an evil doer, we would not have delivered him unto thee. 31Then said Pilate unto them: take him unto you, and judge him after your own law. The jewes said unto him. It is not lawful for us to put any man to death. 32That the words of Iesus might be fulfilled which he spake, signifying what death he should die.

33Then Pilate entered into the judgement house again, and called Iesus, and said unto him: Art thou king of the jewes? 34Iesus answered: sayest thou that of thyself, or did other tell it thee of me? 35Pilate answered: Am I a jew? Thine own nation and high priests have delivered thee unto me. What hast thou done? 36Iesus answered: my kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world then would my ministers surely fight, that I should not be delivered to the jewes, but now is my kingdom not from hence. 37Pilate said unto him: Art thou a king then? Iesus answered: Thou sayest that I am a king. For this cause was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the trueth. And all that are of the truth hear my voice. 38Pilate said unto him: what is trueth? And when he had said that, he went out again unto the jewes, and said unto them: I find in him no cause at all. 39Ye have a custom among you, that I should deliver you one loose at ester. Will ye that I loose unto you the king of the jewes. 40Then cried they all again saying: Not him, but Barabas. Barabas was a robber.
