Jesus before Pilate
(Matthew 27:11–14; John 18:28–40)

1And the whole multitude of them, rising up, led Him before Pilate. 2And they began to accuse Him, saying, "We found This Man perverting our nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, and saying that He Himself is Christ a King!" 3And Pilate asked Him, saying, "Art Thou the King of the Jews?" And He, answering, said to him, "You say it." 4And Pilate said to the high priests and to the multitudes, "I find no fault in This Man." 5But they were the more urgent, saying, "He stirreth up the people, teaching throughout the whole of Judaea, and beginning from Galilee even to this place."

Jesus before Herod

6But Pilate, hearing it, asked if the Man were a Galilaean.

7And, learning that He was of Herod's jurisdiction, he sent Him up to Herod, who also was in Jerusalem in these days.

8Now Herod, seeing Jesus, rejoiced exceedingly; for he was wishing for a long time to see Him, because he had heard concerning Him; and he was hoping to see some sign wrought by Him. 9And he kept questioning Him in many words; but He answered him nothing. 10And the high priests and the scribes stood, vehemently accusing Him. 11And Herod with his soldiers, having set Him at naught, and having mocked Him, having thrown over Him a gorgeous robe, sent Him back to Pilate. 12And Herod and Pilate became friends with each other on that day; for before they were at enmity between themselves.

The Crowd Chooses Barabbas
(Matthew 27:15–23; Mark 15:6–11)

13And Pilate, calling together the high priests and the rulers and the people, 14said to them, "Ye brought to me This Man as One perverting the people and, behold, I, having examined Him before you, found no fault in This Man regarding those things of which ye accuse Him; 15no, nor yet Herod; for he sent Him hack to us; and, behold, nothing worthy of death has been done by Him. 16Chastising Him, therefore, I will release Him" 17OMITTED TEXT.

18But they cried out again with all the multitude, saying, "Away with Him! and release to us Barabbas!"? 19one who, indeed, because of a certain insurrection made in the city, and of murder, was cast into prison. 20And again Pilate called to them, wishing to release Jesus. 21But they kept calling out, saying, "Crucify, crucify Him!" 22But he said to them the third time, "Why, what evil did This Man do? I found in Him nothing worthy of death. Chastising Him, therefore, I will release Him." 23But they were urgent, with loud voices, asking that He might be crucified. And their voices prevailed. 24And Pilate gave judgment that their request should be executed; 25and he released him who, because of insurrection and murder, had been cast into prison, for whom they were asking; but he delivered up Jesus to their will.

The Crucifixion
(Matthew 27:32–44; Mark 15:21–32; John 19:16–27)

26And, when they led Him away, laying hold of one Simon a Cyrenian, coming from the country, they laid on him the cross, to bear it after Jesus.

27And there was following Him a great multitude of people, and of women, who bewailed and lamented Him 28But, turning towards them, Jesus said, "Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for Me; but weep for yourselves, and for your children; 29for, behold, the days are coming in which they will say, 'Happy the barren, and the wombs which bore not, and breasts that gave not suck.' 30Then will they begin to say to the mountains, 'Fall on us;' and to the hills, 'Cover us;' 31for, if they do these things in the green tree, what shall be done in the dry?"

32And there were being led two others also, malefactors, with Him to be put to death.

33And, when they came to the place that is called "The Skull," there they crucified Him, and the malefactors; one on the right hand, and the other on the left. 34And Jesus said, "Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do!" And, dividing His garments among them, they cast lots. 35And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also were scoffing at Him, saying, "He saved others; let Him save Himself! if This is the Christ of God, the Chosen!" 36And the soldiers also were mocking Him, coming near, and offering Him vinegar, 37and saying, "If Thou art the King of the Jews, save Thyself!" 38And there was also an inscription over Him, "THE KING OF THE JEWS, THIS!"

39And one of the suspended malefactors kept reviling Him, saying, "Art not Thou the Christ? Save Thyself and us!" 40But the other, answering and rebuking him, said, "Do you not fear God, seeing that you are in the same condemnation? 41and we, indeed, righteously; for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds: but This Man did nothing amiss." 42And he said, "Jesus, remember me, when Thou comest in Thy Kingdom." 43And He said to him, "Verily I say to you, "To-day you shall be with Me in Paradise."

The Death of Jesus
(Matthew 27:45–56; Mark 15:33–41; John 19:28–30)

44And it was already about the sixth hour, and darkness came over the whole land till the ninth hour, 45the sun's light failing. And the veil of the temple was rent in the midst. 46And, crying with a loud voice, Jesus said, "Father, into Thy hands I commit My spirit." And, having said this, He expired. 47And the centurion, beholding what took place, glorified God, saying, "Truly This was a righteous Man!" 48And all the multitudes, coming together to this sight, viewing the things that took place, were returning, smiting their breasts. 49And all those acquainted with Him stood afar off, and the women who followed with Him from Galilee, seeing these things.

The Burial of Jesus
(Matthew 27:57–61; Mark 15:42–47; John 19:38–42)

50And, behold, a man, Joseph by name, who was a councillor, a good and righteous man 51(the same had not consented to their plan and deed), from Arimathaea, a city of the Jews, who was waiting for the Kingdom of God: 52the same, going to Pilate, asked for the body of Jesus. 53And, taking it down, he wrapped it in fine linen, and placed Him in a tomb, hewn in a stone, where no one was yet laid. 54And it was a day of Preparation, and a sabbath was approaching. 55And the women who had accompanied Him out of Galilee, following after, beheld the tomb, and how His body was laid. 56And, returning, they prepared spices and perfumes; and, on the sabbath they rested according to the commandment.
