5	He threw down the pieces of silver in the sanctuary and departed. Then he went away and hanged himself.	And throwing down the pieces of silver into the temple, he departed, and he went and hanged himself.	So Judas threw the money into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself.
6	The chief priests took the pieces of silver and said, “It’s not lawful to put them into the treasury, since it is the price of blood.”	But the chief priests, taking the pieces of silver, said, “It is not lawful to put them into the treasury, since it is blood money.”	The chief priests picked up the coins and said, “It is against the law to put this into the treasury, since it is blood money.”
7	They took counsel, and bought the potter’s field with them to bury strangers in.	So they took counsel and bought with them the potter’s field as a burial place for strangers.	So they decided to use the money to buy the potter’s field as a burial place for foreigners.

16	They had then a notable prisoner called Barabbas.	And they had then a notorious prisoner called Barabbas.	At that time they had a well-known prisoner whose name was Jesus Barabbas.
17	When therefore they were gathered together, Pilate said to them, “Whom do you want me to release to you? Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?”	So when they had gathered, Pilate said to them, “Whom do you want me to release for you: Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?”	So when the crowd had gathered, Pilate asked them, “Which one do you want me to release to you: Jesus Barabbas, or Jesus who is called the Messiah?”
18	For he knew that because of envy they had delivered him up.	For he knew that it was out of envy that they had delivered him up.	For he knew it was out of self-interest that they had handed Jesus over to him.
19	While he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent to him, saying, “Have nothing to do with that righteous man, for I have suffered many things today in a dream because of him.”	Besides, while he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent word to him, “Have nothing to do with that righteous man, for I have suffered much because of him today in a dream.”	While Pilate was sitting on the judge’s seat, his wife sent him this message: “Don’t have anything to do with that innocent man, for I have suffered a great deal today in a dream because of him.”
20	Now the chief priests and the elders persuaded the multitudes to ask for Barabbas and destroy Jesus.	Now the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to ask for Barabbas and destroy Jesus.	But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to ask for Barabbas and to have Jesus executed.
21	But the governor answered them, “Which of the two do you want me to release to you?” They said, “Barabbas!”	The governor again said to them, “Which of the two do you want me to release for you?” And they said, “Barabbas.”	“Which of the two do you want me to release to you?” asked the governor. “Barabbas,” they answered.
22	Pilate said to them, “What then shall I do to Jesus who is called Christ?” They all said to him, “Let him be crucified!”	Pilate said to them, “Then what shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?” They all said, “Let him be crucified!”	“What shall I do, then, with Jesus who is called the Messiah?” Pilate asked. They all answered, “Crucify him!”
23	But the governor said, “Why? What evil has he done?” But they cried out exceedingly, saying, “Let him be crucified!”	And he said, “Why? What evil has he done?” But they shouted all the more, “Let him be crucified!”	“Why? What crime has he committed?” asked Pilate. But they shouted all the louder, “Crucify him!”
24	So when Pilate saw that nothing was being gained, but rather that a disturbance was starting, he took water and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, “I am innocent of the blood of this righteous person. You see to it.”	So when Pilate saw that he was gaining nothing, but rather that a riot was beginning, he took water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of this man’s blood; see to it yourselves.”	When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that instead an uproar was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd. “I am innocent of this man’s blood,” he said. “It is your responsibility!”
25	All the people answered, “May his blood be on us and on our children!”	And all the people answered, “His blood be on us and on our children!”	All the people answered, “His blood is on us and on our children!”

27	Then the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into the Praetorium, and gathered the whole garrison together against him. 39	Those who passed by blasphemed him, wagging their heads	And those who passed by derided him, wagging their heads	Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads
40	and saying, “You who destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross!”	and saying, “You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross.”	and saying, “You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself! Come down from the cross, if you are the Son of God!”
41	Likewise the chief priests also mocking with the scribes, the Pharisees, and the elders, said,	So also the chief priests, with the scribes and elders, mocked him, saying,	In the same way the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders mocked him.
42	“He saved others, but he can’t save himself. If he is the King of Israel, let him come down from the cross now, and we will believe in him.	“He saved others; he cannot save himself. He is the King of Israel; let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him.	“He saved others,” they said, “but he can’t save himself! He’s the king of Israel! Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him.
43	He trusts in God. Let God deliver him now, if he wants him; for he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’”	He trusts in God; let God deliver him now, if he desires him. For he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’”	He trusts in God. Let God rescue him now if he wants him, for he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’”
44	The robbers also who were crucified with him cast on him the same reproach.	And the robbers who were crucified with him also reviled him in the same way.	In the same way the rebels who were crucified with him also heaped insults on him.
45	Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour.	Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour.	From noon until three in the afternoon darkness came over all the land.
46	About the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lima sabachthani?” That is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”	And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”	About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).
47	Some of them who stood there, when they heard it, said, “This man is calling Elijah.”	And some of the bystanders, hearing it, said, “This man is calling Elijah.”	When some of those standing there heard this, they said, “He’s calling Elijah.”
48	Immediately one of them ran and took a sponge, filled it with vinegar, put it on a reed, and gave him a drink.	And one of them at once ran and took a sponge, filled it with sour wine, and put it on a reed and gave it to him to drink.	Immediately one of them ran and got a sponge. He filled it with wine vinegar, put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink.
49	The rest said, “Let him be. Let’s see whether Elijah comes to save him.”	But the others said, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to save him.”	The rest said, “Now leave him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes to save him.”
