1	And it being morning, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put Him to death. 2	And having bound Him, took Him away, and delivered Him to Pontius Pilate, the governor.	And they bound him and led him away and delivered him over to Pilate the governor.	So they bound him, led him away and handed him over to Pilate the governor.

4	saying, I sinned betraying the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? See thou to it.	saying, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” They said, “What is that to us? See to it yourself.”	“I have sinned,” he said, “for I have betrayed innocent blood.” “What is that to us?” they replied. “That’s your responsibility.”
5	And throwing down the money in the temple, he departed; and having gone away hung himself.	And throwing down the pieces of silver into the temple, he departed, and he went and hanged himself.	So Judas threw the money into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself.
6	And the chief priests, taking the pieces of silver, said, It is not lawful to put them in the treasury, because it is the price of blood.	But the chief priests, taking the pieces of silver, said, “It is not lawful to put them into the treasury, since it is blood money.”	The chief priests picked up the coins and said, “It is against the law to put this into the treasury, since it is blood money.”
7	And taking counsel, they purchased with them the field of the potter, for a burying place for strangers.	So they took counsel and bought with them the potter’s field as a burial place for strangers.	So they decided to use the money to buy the potter’s field as a burial place for foreigners.
8	Therefore that field has been called, The field of blood, to this day.	Therefore that field has been called the Field of Blood to this day.	That is why it has been called the Field of Blood to this day.
9	Then the word having been spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, was fulfilled, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of Him that was valued, whom they of the sons of Israel did value;	Then was fulfilled what had been spoken by the prophet Jeremiah, saying, “And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him on whom a price had been set by some of the sons of Israel,	Then what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled: “They took the thirty pieces of silver, the price set on him by the people of Israel,
10	and they gave them for the field of the potter, as the Lord appointed me.	and they gave them for the potter’s field, as the Lord directed me.”	and they used them to buy the potter’s field, as the Lord commanded me.”
11	And Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked Him, saying; Art thou the King of the Jews? And Jesus said to him, Thou sayest it.	Now Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” Jesus said, “You have said so.”	Meanwhile Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?” “You have said so,” Jesus replied.
12	And while He is accused by the chief priests and elders, He responded nothing.	But when he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he gave no answer.	When he was accused by the chief priests and the elders, he gave no answer.
13	Then Pilate says to Him, Do you not hear, bow many things they witness against you?	Then Pilate said to him, “Do you not hear how many things they testify against you?”	Then Pilate asked him, “Don’t you hear the testimony they are bringing against you?”
14	And He responded to him not one word, so that the governor marveled exceedingly.	But he gave him no answer, not even to a single charge, so that the governor was greatly amazed.	But Jesus made no reply, not even to a single charge—to the great amazement of the governor.
15	And the governor during the feast was accustomed to release to the multitude one prisoner, whom they wished.	Now at the feast the governor was accustomed to release for the crowd any one prisoner whom they wanted.	Now it was the governor’s custom at the festival to release a prisoner chosen by the crowd.
16	But they had at that time a noted prisoner called Barabbas.	And they had then a notorious prisoner called Barabbas.	At that time they had a well-known prisoner whose name was Jesus Barabbas.
17	Then they being assembled, Pilate said to them, Whom do you wish that I may release unto you? Barabbas? or Jesus who is called Christ?	So when they had gathered, Pilate said to them, “Whom do you want me to release for you: Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?”	So when the crowd had gathered, Pilate asked them, “Which one do you want me to release to you: Jesus Barabbas, or Jesus who is called the Messiah?”
18	For he knew that they delivered Him on account of envy.	For he knew that it was out of envy that they had delivered him up.	For he knew it was out of self-interest that they had handed Jesus over to him.
19	And he sitting on his tribunal, his wife sent to him, saying, Let there be nothing to thee and that just man: for this day I suffered many things in a dream on account of Him.	Besides, while he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent word to him, “Have nothing to do with that righteous man, for I have suffered much because of him today in a dream.”	While Pilate was sitting on the judge’s seat, his wife sent him this message: “Don’t have anything to do with that innocent man, for I have suffered a great deal today in a dream because of him.”
20	And the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitudes that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.	Now the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to ask for Barabbas and destroy Jesus.	But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to ask for Barabbas and to have Jesus executed.
21	And the governor responding said to them, Which of the two do you wish that I shall release unto you? And they said Barabbas.	The governor again said to them, “Which of the two do you want me to release for you?” And they said, “Barabbas.”	“Which of the two do you want me to release to you?” asked the governor. “Barabbas,” they answered.
22	Pilate says to them, Then what shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ? They all say to him, Let Him be crucified.	Pilate said to them, “Then what shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?” They all said, “Let him be crucified!”	“What shall I do, then, with Jesus who is called the Messiah?” Pilate asked. They all answered, “Crucify him!”
23	And the governor said, For what evil hath He done? And they continued to cry out more vociferously, saying, Let Him be crucified.	And he said, “Why? What evil has he done?” But they shouted all the more, “Let him be crucified!”	“Why? What crime has he committed?” asked Pilate. But they shouted all the louder, “Crucify him!”
24	And Pilate seeing that he profits nothing, but rather an uproar supervenes, having taken water, washed his hands in the presence of the multitude, saying, For I am free from the blood of this just one: you shall see to it.	So when Pilate saw that he was gaining nothing, but rather that a riot was beginning, he took water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of this man’s blood; see to it yourselves.”	When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that instead an uproar was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd. “I am innocent of this man’s blood,” he said. “It is your responsibility!”
25	And all the people responding said, His blood be upon us, and upon our children.	And all the people answered, “His blood be on us and on our children!”	All the people answered, “His blood is on us and on our children!”
26	Then he released unto them Barabbas. And having scourged Jesus, delivered Him up that He should be crucified.	Then he released for them Barabbas, and having scourged Jesus, delivered him to be crucified.	Then he released Barabbas to them. But he had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified.
27	Then the soldiers of the governor taking Jesus into the judgment hall, gathered to Him the whole band.	Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the governor’s headquarters, and they gathered the whole battalion before him.	Then the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole company of soldiers around him.
28	And having divested Him, put on Him a scarlet robe:	And they stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him,	They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him,
29	and plaiting a crown of thorns put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand; and bowing the knee to Him, continued to mock Him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!	and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on his head and put a reed in his right hand. 30	And spitting on Him, they took the reed and struck Him on the head repeatedly.	And they spit on him and took the reed and struck him on the head.	They spit on him, and took the staff and struck him on the head again and again.
31	And when they mocked Him, divesting Him of the robe, they put on Him His own raiment, and led Him away to crucify Him.	And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the robe and put his own clothes on him and led him away to crucify him.	After they had mocked him, they took off the robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him away to crucify him.
32	And going out they found a Cyrenean man, Simon by name: they compelled him that he should bear His cross.	As they went out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name. They compelled this man to carry his cross.	As they were going out, they met a man from Cyrene, named Simon, and they forced him to carry the cross.
33	Having come to the place called Golgotha, which is called the place of a skull.	And when they came to a place called Golgotha (which means Place of a Skull),	They came to a place called Golgotha (which means “the place of the skull”).
34	And they gave Him vinegar mingled with gall to drink: and tasting, He was not willing to drink it.	they offered him wine to drink, mixed with gall, but when he tasted it, he would not drink it.	There they offered Jesus wine to drink, mixed with gall; but after tasting it, he refused to drink it.
35	And crucifying Him, they divided His garments, casting the lot,	And when they had crucified him, they divided his garments among them by casting lots.	When they had crucified him, they divided up his clothes by casting lots.
36	and sitting down, they continued to watch Him there.	Then they sat down and kept watch over him there.	And sitting down, they kept watch over him there.
37	And they placed over His head, His accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.	And over his head they put the charge against him, which read, “This is Jesus, the King of the Jews.”	Above his head they placed the written charge against him: this is jesus, the king of the jews.
38	Then two thieves are crucified along with Him, the one on the right and one on the left.	Then two robbers were crucified with him, one on the right and one on the left.	Two rebels were crucified with him, one on his right and one on his left.
39	And going by they continued to blaspheme Him, wagging their heads,	And those who passed by derided him, wagging their heads	Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads
40	and saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself: if thou art the Son of God, come down from the cross.	and saying, “You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross.”	and saying, “You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself! Come down from the cross, if you are the Son of God!”
41	Likewise also the chief priests mocking, with the scribes and elders, continued to say,	So also the chief priests, with the scribes and elders, mocked him, saying,	In the same way the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders mocked him.
42	He saved others; He is not able to save Himself: if He is the King of Israel, let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe on Him.	“He saved others; he cannot save himself. He is the King of Israel; let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him.	“He saved others,” they said, “but he can’t save himself! He’s the king of Israel! Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him.
43	He trusted in God; let Him now deliver Him, if He wishes Him; for He said, I am the Son of God.	He trusts in God; let God deliver him now, if he desires him. For he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’”	He trusts in God. Let God rescue him now if he wants him, for he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’”
44	And the thieves being crucified along with Him were also reproaching Him in the same manner.	And the robbers who were crucified with him also reviled him in the same way.	In the same way the rebels who were crucified with him also heaped insults on him.
45	And from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour.	Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour.	From noon until three in the afternoon darkness came over all the land.
46	And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?	And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”	About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).
47	And certain ones of those standing there hearing, said, He is calling Elijah.	And some of the bystanders, hearing it, said, “This man is calling Elijah.”	When some of those standing there heard this, they said, “He’s calling Elijah.”
48	And one of them running and taking a sponge, and filling it with vinegar, and extending it on a reed, gave Him drink.	And one of them at once ran and took a sponge, filled it with sour wine, and put it on a reed and gave it to him to drink.	Immediately one of them ran and got a sponge. He filled it with wine vinegar, put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink.
49	And others were saying, Let Him alone; let us see if Elijah comes about to save Him.	But the others said, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to save him.”	The rest said, “Now leave him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes to save him.”
50	And Jesus again crying with a loud voice, gave up His spirit.	And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit.	And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.
51	And behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from top to bottom, and the earth did quake; and the rocks were rent;	And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And the earth shook, and the rocks were split.	At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split
52	and the tombs were opened; and many bodies of the sleeping saints arose;	The tombs also were opened. And many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised,	and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life.
53	and having come out of the tombs after His resurrection came into the holy city and appeared unto many.	and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many.	They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared to many people.
54	And the centurion and those watching Jesus with him, seeing the earthquake, and the things which took place, feared exceedingly, saying, Surely this was the Son of God.	When the centurion and those who were with him, keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place, they were filled with awe and said, “Truly this was the Son of God!”	When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, “Surely he was the Son of God!”
55	And many women were there looking on from a distance, who followed Jesus from Galilee to minister unto Him,	There were also many women there, looking on from a distance, who had followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering to him,	Many women were there, watching from a distance. They had followed Jesus from Galilee to care for his needs.
56	among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary, the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.	among whom were Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and Joseph and the mother of the sons of Zebedee. 57	And it being evening, a rich man came from Arimathea, whose name was Joseph, who himself also was a disciple to Jesus. 58	He having come to Pilate, begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded that the body should be given:	He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate ordered it to be given to him.	Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus’ body, and Pilate ordered that it be given to him.

63	Lord, we remember that that deceiver, while yet living, said, After three days I will rise.	and said, “Sir, we remember how that impostor said, while he was still alive, ‘After three days I will rise.’	“Sir,” they said, “we remember that while he was still alive that deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise again.’
64	Command therefore that the tomb be made safe until the third day, lest His disciples having come, may steal Him away, and say to the people, He is risen from the dead: and the last error shall be worse than the first.	Therefore order the tomb to be made secure until the third day, lest his disciples go and steal him away and tell the people, ‘He has risen from the dead,’ and the last fraud will be worse than the first.”	So give the order for the tomb to be made secure until the third day. Otherwise, his disciples may come and steal the body and tell the people that he has been raised from the dead. This last deception will be worse than the first.”
65	Pilate said to them, You have a watch: go, make it safe as you know.	Pilate said to them, “You have a guard of soldiers. Go, make it as secure as you can.”	“Take a guard,” Pilate answered. “Go, make the tomb as secure as you know how.”
66	And having gone, they secured the tomb, sealing the stone, with the guard.	So they went and made the tomb secure by sealing the stone and setting a guard.	So they went and made the tomb secure by putting a seal on the stone and posting the guard.
