When morning came, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death. When daybreak came, all the chief priests and the elders of the people plotted against Jesus to put Him to death. When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death: Now when morning came, all the chief priests and the elders of the people conferred together against Jesus to put Him to death;
And they bound him and led him away and delivered him over to Pilate the governor. After tying Him up, they led Him away and handed Him over to Pilate, the governor. And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor. and they bound Him and led Him away, and handed Him over to Pilate the governor.
Then when Judas, his betrayer, saw that Jesus was condemned, he changed his mind and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders, Then Judas, His betrayer, seeing that He had been condemned, was full of remorse and returned the 30 pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders.” Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, Then when Judas, who had betrayed Him, saw that He had been condemned, he felt remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,
saying, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” They said, “What is that to us? See to it yourself.” I have sinned by betraying innocent blood,” he said.” What’s that to us?” they said. “See to it yourself!” Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that. saying, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” But they said, “What is that to us? You shall see to it yourself!”
And throwing down the pieces of silver into the temple, he departed, and he went and hanged himself. So he threw the silver into the sanctuary and departed. Then he went and hanged himself. And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself. And he threw the pieces of silver into the temple sanctuary and left; and he went away and hanged himself.
But the chief priests, taking the pieces of silver, said, “It is not lawful to put them into the treasury, since it is blood money.” The chief priests took the silver and said, “It’s not lawful to put it into the temple treasury, since it is blood money.” And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood. The chief priests took the pieces of silver and said, “It is not lawful to put them in the temple treasury, since it is money paid for blood.”
So they took counsel and bought with them the potter’s field as a burial place for strangers. So they conferred together and bought the potter’s field with it as a burial place for foreigners. And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter's field, to bury strangers in. And they conferred together and with the money bought the Potter’s Field as a burial place for strangers.
Therefore that field has been called the Field of Blood to this day. Therefore that field has been called “Blood Field” to this day. Wherefore that field was called, The field of blood, unto this day. For this reason that field has been called the Field of Blood to this day.
Then was fulfilled what had been spoken by the prophet Jeremiah, saying, “And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him on whom a price had been set by some of the sons of Israel, Then what was spoken through the prophet Jeremiah was fulfilled: They took the 30 pieces of silver, the price of Him whose price was set by the Israelites, Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value; Then that which was spoken through Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled: “AND THEY TOOK THE THIRTY PIECES OF SILVER, THE PRICE OF THE ONE WHOSE PRICE HAD BEEN SET by the sons of Israel;
and they gave them for the potter’s field, as the Lord directed me.” and they gave them for the potter’s field, as the Lord directed me. And gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord appointed me. AND THEY GAVE THEM FOR THE POTTER’S FIELD, JUST AS THE LORD DIRECTED ME.”
Now Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” Jesus said, “You have said so.” Now Jesus stood before the governor. “Are You the King of the Jews?” the governor asked Him. Jesus answered, “You have said it.” And Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest. Now Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor questioned Him, saying, “So You are the King of the Jews?” And Jesus said to him, “It is as you say.”
But when he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he gave no answer. And while He was being accused by the chief priests and elders, He didn’t answer. And when he was accused of the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing. And while He was being accused by the chief priests and elders, He did not offer any answer.
Then Pilate said to him, “Do you not hear how many things they testify against you?” Then Pilate said to Him, “Don’t You hear how much they are testifying against You?” Then said Pilate unto him, Hearest thou not how many things they witness against thee? Then Pilate said to Him, “Do You not hear how many things they are testifying against You?”
But he gave him no answer, not even to a single charge, so that the governor was greatly amazed. But He didn’t answer him on even one charge, so that the governor was greatly amazed. And he answered him to never a word; insomuch that the governor marvelled greatly. And still He did not answer him in regard to even a single charge, so the governor was greatly amazed.
Now at the feast the governor was accustomed to release for the crowd any one prisoner whom they wanted. At the festival the governor’s custom was to release to the crowd a prisoner they wanted. Now at that feast the governor was wont to release unto the people a prisoner, whom they would. Now at the Passover Feast the governor was accustomed to release for the people any one prisoner whom they wanted.
And they had then a notorious prisoner called Barabbas. At that time they had a notorious prisoner called Barabbas. And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas. And at that time they were holding a notorious prisoner called Barabbas.
So when they had gathered, Pilate said to them, “Whom do you want me to release for you: Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?” So when they had gathered together, Pilate said to them, “Who is it you want me to release for you—Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Messiah?” Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ? So when the people gathered together, Pilate said to them, “Whom do you want me to release for you: Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?”
For he knew that it was out of envy that they had delivered him up. For he knew they had handed Him over because of envy. For he knew that for envy they had delivered him. For he knew that it was because of envy that they had handed Him over.
Besides, while he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent word to him, “Have nothing to do with that righteous man, for I have suffered much because of him today in a dream.” While he was sitting on the judge’s bench, his wife sent word to him, “Have nothing to do with that righteous man, for today I’ve suffered terribly in a dream because of Him!” When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him. And while he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent him a message, saying, “See that you have nothing to do with that righteous Man; for last night I suffered greatly in a dream because of Him.”
Now the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to ask for Barabbas and destroy Jesus. The chief priests and the elders, however, persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas and to execute Jesus. But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus. But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas, and to put Jesus to death.
The governor again said to them, “Which of the two do you want me to release for you?” And they said, “Barabbas.” The governor asked them, “Which of the two do you want me to release for you?|” Barabbas!” they answered. The governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you? They said, Barabbas. And the governor said to them, “Which of the two do you want me to release for you?” And they said, “Barabbas.”
Pilate said to them, “Then what shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?” They all said, “Let him be crucified!” Pilate asked them, “What should I do then with Jesus, who is called Messiah?” They all answered, “Crucify Him!” Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified. Pilate said to them, “Then what shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?” They all said, “Crucify Him!”
And he said, “Why? What evil has he done?” But they shouted all the more, “Let him be crucified!” Then he said, “Why? What has He done wrong?” But they kept shouting, “Crucify Him!” all the more. And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified. But he said, “Why, what evil has He done?” Yet they kept shouting all the more, saying, “Crucify Him!”
So when Pilate saw that he was gaining nothing, but rather that a riot was beginning, he took water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of this man’s blood; see to it yourselves.” When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that a riot was starting instead, he took some water, washed his hands in front of the crowd, and said, “I am innocent of this man’s blood. See to it yourselves!” When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it. Now when Pilate saw that he was accomplishing nothing, but rather that a riot was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of this Man’s blood; you yourselves shall see.”
And all the people answered, “His blood be on us and on our children!” All the people answered, “His blood be on us and on our children!” Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children. And all the people replied, “His blood shall be on us and on our children!”
Then he released for them Barabbas, and having scourged Jesus, delivered him to be crucified. Then he released Barabbas to them. But after having Jesus flogged, he handed Him over to be crucified. Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified. Then he released Barabbas for them; but after having Jesus flogged, he handed Him over to be crucified.
Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the governor’s headquarters, and they gathered the whole battalion before him. Then the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into headquarters and gathered the whole company around Him. Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers. Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole Roman cohort to Him.
And they stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, They stripped Him and dressed Him in a scarlet military robe. And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe. And they stripped Him and put a red cloak on Him.
and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on his head and put a reed in his right hand. And kneeling before him, they mocked him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” They twisted together a crown of thorns, put it on His head, and placed a reed in His right hand. And they knelt down before Him and mocked Him: “Hail, King of the Jews!” And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews! And after twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and put a reed in His right hand; and they knelt down before Him and mocked Him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!”
And they spit on him and took the reed and struck him on the head. Then they spit on Him, took the reed, and kept hitting Him on the head. And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head. And they spit on Him, and took the reed and beat Him on the head.
And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the robe and put his own clothes on him and led him away to crucify him. When they had mocked Him, they stripped Him of the robe, put His clothes on Him, and led Him away to crucify Him. And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him. And after they had mocked Him, they took the cloak off Him and put His own garments back on Him, and led Him away to crucify Him.
As they went out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name. They compelled this man to carry his cross. As they were going out, they found a Cyrenian man named Simon. They forced this man to carry His cross. And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross. As they were coming out, they found a man of Cyrene named Simon, whom they compelled to carry His cross.
And when they came to a place called Golgotha (which means Place of a Skull), When they came to a place called Golgotha (which means Skull Place), And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull, And when they came to a place called Golgotha, which means Place of a Skull,
they offered him wine to drink, mixed with gall, but when he tasted it, he would not drink it. they gave Him wine mixed with gall to drink. But when He tasted it, He would not drink it. They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink. they gave Him wine mixed with bile to drink; and after tasting it, He was unwilling to drink it.
And when they had crucified him, they divided his garments among them by casting lots. After crucifying Him they divided His clothes by casting lots. And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots. And when they had crucified Him, they divided His garments among themselves by casting lots.
Then they sat down and kept watch over him there. Then they sat down and were guarding Him there. And sitting down they watched him there; And sitting down, they began to keep watch over Him there.
And over his head they put the charge against him, which read, “This is Jesus, the King of the Jews.” Above His head they put up the charge against Him in writing: THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS. And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS. And above His head they put up the charge against Him which read, “THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.”
Then two robbers were crucified with him, one on the right and one on the left. Then two criminals were crucified with Him, one on the right and one on the left. Then were there two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left. At that time two rebels were being crucified with Him, one on the right and one on the left.
And those who passed by derided him, wagging their heads Those who passed by were yelling insults at Him, shaking their heads And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads, And those passing by were speaking abusively to Him, shaking their heads,
and saying, “You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross.” and saying, “The One who would demolish the sanctuary and rebuild it in three days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross!” And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross. and saying, “You who are going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross.”
So also the chief priests, with the scribes and elders, mocked him, saying, In the same way the chief priests, with the scribes and elders, mocked Him and said, “ Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said, In the same way the chief priests also, along with the scribes and elders, were mocking Him and saying,
“He saved others; he cannot save himself. He is the King of Israel; let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. He saved others, but He cannot save Himself! He is the King of Israel! Let Him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in Him. He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him. “He saved others; He cannot save Himself! He is the King of Israel; let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe in Him.
He trusts in God; let God deliver him now, if he desires him. For he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’” He has put His trust in God; let God rescue Him now—if He wants Him! For He said, ‘I am God’s Son.’” He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God. HE HAS TRUSTED IN GOD; LET GOD RESCUE Him now, IF HE TAKES PLEASURE IN HIM; for He said, ‘I am the Son of God.’”
And the robbers who were crucified with him also reviled him in the same way. In the same way even the criminals who were crucified with Him kept taunting Him. The thieves also, which were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth. And the rebels who had been crucified with Him were also insulting Him in the same way.
Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour. From noon until three in the afternoon darkness came over the whole land. Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour. Now from the sixth hour darkness fell upon all the land until the ninth hour.
And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out with a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “ELI, ELI, LEMA SABAKTANEI?” that is, “MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?”
And some of the bystanders, hearing it, said, “This man is calling Elijah.” When some of those standing there heard this, they said, “He’s calling for Elijah!” Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias. And some of those who were standing there, when they heard it, said, “This man is calling for Elijah.”
And one of them at once ran and took a sponge, filled it with sour wine, and put it on a reed and gave it to him to drink. Immediately one of them ran and got a sponge, filled it with sour wine, fixed it on a reed, and offered Him a drink. And straightway one of them ran, and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink. And immediately one of them ran, and taking a sponge, he filled it with sour wine and put it on a reed, and gave Him a drink.
But the others said, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to save him.” But the rest said, “Let’s see if Elijah comes to save Him!” The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him. But the rest of them said, “Let us see if Elijah comes to save Him.”
And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit. Jesus shouted again with a loud voice and gave up His spirit. Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and gave up His spirit.
And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And the earth shook, and the rocks were split. Suddenly, the curtain of the sanctuary was split in two from top to bottom; the earth quaked and the rocks were split. And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; And behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth shook and the rocks were split.
The tombs also were opened. And many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised, The tombs were also opened and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised. And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, Also the tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised;
and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many. And they came out of the tombs after His resurrection, entered the holy city, and appeared to many. And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many. and coming out of the tombs after His resurrection, they entered the holy city and appeared to many.
When the centurion and those who were with him, keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place, they were filled with awe and said, “Truly this was the Son of God!” When the centurion and those with him, who were guarding Jesus, saw the earthquake and the things that had happened, they were terrified and said, “This man really was God’s Son!” Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God. Now as for the centurion and those who were with him keeping guard over Jesus, when they saw the earthquake and the other things that were happening, they became extremely frightened and said, “Truly this was the Son of God!”
There were also many women there, looking on from a distance, who had followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering to him, Many women who had followed Jesus from Galilee and ministered to Him were there, looking on from a distance. And many women were there beholding afar off, which followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him: And many women were there watching from a distance, who had followed Jesus from Galilee while caring for Him.
among whom were Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and Joseph and the mother of the sons of Zebedee. Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of Zebedee’s sons. Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee's children. Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.
When it was evening, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who also was a disciple of Jesus. When it was evening, a rich man from Arimathea named Joseph came, who himself had also become a disciple of Jesus. When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus' disciple: Now when it was evening, a rich man from Arimathea came, named Joseph, who himself had also become a disciple of Jesus.
He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate ordered it to be given to him. He approached Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body. Then Pilate ordered that it be released. He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered. This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate ordered it to be given to him.
And Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen shroud So Joseph took the body, wrapped it in clean, fine linen, And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, And Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,
and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had cut in the rock. And he rolled a great stone to the entrance of the tomb and went away. and placed it in his new tomb, which he had cut into the rock. He left after rolling a great stone against the entrance of the tomb. And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed. and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had cut out in the rock; and he rolled a large stone against the entrance of the tomb and went away.
Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were there, sitting opposite the tomb. Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were seated there, facing the tomb. And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, sitting over against the sepulchre. And Mary Magdalene was there, and the other Mary, sitting opposite the tomb.
The next day, that is, after the day of Preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered before Pilate The next day, which followed the preparation day, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered before Pilate Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate, Now on the next day, that is, the day which is after the preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered together with Pilate,
and said, “Sir, we remember how that impostor said, while he was still alive, ‘After three days I will rise.’ and said, “Sir, we remember that while this deceiver was still alive He said, After three days I will rise again.’ Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again. and they said, “Sir, we remember that when that deceiver was still alive, He said, ‘After three days I am rising.’
Therefore order the tomb to be made secure until the third day, lest his disciples go and steal him away and tell the people, ‘He has risen from the dead,’ and the last fraud will be worse than the first.” Therefore give orders that the tomb be made secure until the third day. Otherwise, His disciples may come, steal Him, and tell the people, ‘He has been raised from the dead.’ Then the last deception will be worse than the first.|” Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first. Therefore, give orders for the tomb to be made secure until the third day; otherwise, His disciples may come and steal Him, and say to the people, ‘He has risen from the dead,’ and the last deception will be worse than the first.”
Pilate said to them, “You have a guard of soldiers. Go, make it as secure as you can.” You have a guard of soldiers,” Pilate told them. “Go and make it as secure as you know how.” Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can. Pilate said to them, “You have a guard; go, make it as secure as you know how.”
So they went and made the tomb secure by sealing the stone and setting a guard. Then they went and made the tomb secure by sealing the stone and setting the guard. So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch. And they went and made the tomb secure with the guard, sealing the stone.
