1	“ Then the kingdom of the heavens will be likened to ten virgins, who, having taken their lamps, went out to meet the bridegroom,	“Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom.	“At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.
2	and five of them were foolish, and five wise.	Five of them were foolish, and five were wise.	Five of them were foolish and five were wise.
3	For the foolish, having taken their lamps, did not take oil with them;	For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them,	The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them.
4	but the wise took oil in the vessels with their lamps.	but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps.	The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps.
5	And in the tarrying of the bridegroom, they all became drowsy and were sleeping.	As the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and slept.	The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.
6	And in the middle of the night there was a cry: ‘Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’	But at midnight there was a cry, ‘Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’	“At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’
7	Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps.	Then all those virgins rose and trimmed their lamps.	“Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps.
8	And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your⁺ oil, because our lamps are going out.’	And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’	The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’
9	And the wise answered, saying, ‘No, lest it might not be sufficient for us and you⁺. Go rather to those selling, and buy for yourselves.’	But the wise answered, saying, ‘Since there will not be enough for us and for you, go rather to the dealers and buy for yourselves.’	“’No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’
10	And in their going away to buy, the bridegroom came, and those ready went in with him to the wedding feast, and the door was shut.	And while they were going to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut.	“But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.
11	And afterward, the other virgins come also, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open to us!’	Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open to us.’	“Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’
12	And answering, he said, ‘Truly I say to you⁺, I have not known you⁺.’	But he answered, ‘Truly, I say to you, I do not know you.’	“But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’
13	Therefore watch, for you⁺ do not know the day nor the hour.	Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.	“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.
14	For it is like a man going on a journey who called his own servants and delivered his possessions to them.	“For it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted to them his property.	“Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them.
15	And indeed, to one he gave five talents; and to one, two; and to one, one—to each according to his own ability. And he left the region.	To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went away.	To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey.
16	Immediately the one having received the five talents, having gone, traded with them and gained five others.	He who had received the five talents went at once and traded with them, and he made five talents more.	The man who had received five bags of gold went at once and put his money to work and gained five bags more.
17	Likewise, the one with the two gained two others.	So also he who had the two talents made two talents more.	So also, the one with two bags of gold gained two more.
18	But the one having received the one, having gone away, dug in the earth and hid his master's money.	But he who had received the one talent went and dug in the ground and hid his master’s money.	But the man who had received one bag went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money.
19	And after much time, the master of those servants comes and settles the account with them.	Now after a long time the master of those servants came and settled accounts with them.	“After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them.
20	And the one having received the five talents, having come, brought to him five other talents, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me five talents. Behold, I gained five other talents.’	And he who had received the five talents came forward, bringing five talents more, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me five talents; here, I have made five talents more.’	The man who had received five bags of gold brought the other five. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with five bags of gold. See, I have gained five more.’
21	His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You were faithful over a few things; I will set you over many things. Enter into the joy of your master!’	His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’	“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’
22	And the one with the two talents, also having come, said, ‘Lord, you delivered to me two talents. Behold, I gained two other talents.’	And he also who had the two talents came forward, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me two talents; here, I have made two talents more.’	“The man with two bags of gold also came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with two bags of gold; see, I have gained two more.’
23	His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You were faithful over a few things; I will set you over many things. Enter into the joy of your master!’	His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’	“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. 24	And the one having received the one talent, having come, also said, ‘Lord, I knew you, that you are a hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering from where you did not scatter.	He also who had received the one talent came forward, saying, ‘Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you scattered no seed,	“Then the man who had received one bag of gold came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed.
25	And having been afraid, having gone away, I hid your talent in the ground. Behold, you have what is yours.’	so I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the ground. Here, you have what is yours.’	So I was afraid and went out and hid your gold in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’
26	And answering, his master said to him, ‘Wicked and slothful servant! You knew that I reap where I did not sow and gather from where I did not scatter.	But his master answered him, ‘You wicked and slothful servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sown and gather where I scattered no seed?	“His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed?
27	Therefore it was necessary for you to cast my money to the bankers, and having come, I would have received my own with interest.	Then you ought to have invested my money with the bankers, and at my coming I should have received what was my own with interest.	Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.
28	Therefore take away the talent from him and give it to the one having the ten talents.	So take the talent from him and give it to him who has the ten talents.	“’So take the bag of gold from him and give it to the one who has ten bags.
29	For everyone having will be given, and he will have in abundance. But the one not having, even that which he has will be taken away from him.	For to everyone who has will more be given, and he will have an abundance. But from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.	For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.
30	And cast out the worthless servant into the outer darkness—there will be weeping and gnashing of the teeth.’	And cast the worthless servant into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’	And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
31	And when the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit upon the throne of His glory.	“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne.	“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne.
32	And all the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them from one another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.	Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.	All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
33	And indeed, He will set the sheep on His right hand and the goats on His left.	And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left.	He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
34	Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, the blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you⁺ from the foundation of the world.	Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.	“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.
35	For I hungered, and you⁺ gave Me something to eat; I thirsted, and you⁺ gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you⁺ took Me in;	For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me,	For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,
36	I was naked, and you⁺ clothed Me; I was ailing, and you⁺ visited Me; I was in prison, and you⁺ came to Me.’	I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’	I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
37	Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungering, and fed You? Or thirsting, and gave You to drink?	Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink?	“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?
38	And when did we see You a stranger, and took You in? Or naked, and clothed You?	And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you?	When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you?
39	And when did we see You ailing or in prison, and came to You?’	And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’	When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
40	And answering, the King will say to them, ‘Truly I say to you⁺, inasmuch as you⁺ did it to one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you⁺ did it to Me.’	And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’	“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
41	Then also He will say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, the cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.	“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.	“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.
42	For I hungered, and you⁺ did not give to Me to eat; and I thirsted, and you⁺ did not give Me to drink;	For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink,	For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink,
43	I was a stranger, and you⁺ did not take Me in; naked, and you⁺ did not clothe Me; ailing and in prison, and you⁺ did not visit Me.’	I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’	I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’
44	Then they also will answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungering, or thirsting, or a stranger, or naked, or ailing, or in prison, and we did not minister to You?’	Then they also will answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?’	“They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’
45	Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Truly I say to you⁺, inasmuch as you⁺ did not do it to one of the least of these, you⁺ did not do it to Me.’	Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’	“He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’
46	And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”	And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”	“Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”
