9 ‘No, said the wise ones, ‘or there may not be enough for both us and you⁺. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves. But the wise answered, saying, ‘Since there will not be enough for us and for you, go rather to the dealers and buy for yourselves.’ “’No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’
10 But while they were on their way to buy it, the bridegroom arrived. Those who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet, and the door was shut. And while they were going to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut. “But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.
11 Later the other virgins arrived and said, ‘Lord {Kyrie}, lord, open the door for us! Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open to us.’ “Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’
12 But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you⁺, I do not know you⁺. But he answered, ‘Truly, I say to you, I do not know you.’ “But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’
13 Therefore keep watch, because you⁺ do not know the day or the hour [when the Son of Man comes.]. Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour. “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.
14 For it is just like a man going on a journey, who called his servants {doulous} and entrusted them with his possessions. “For it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted to them his property. “Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them.
15 To one he gave five talents (twenty years’ wages), to another two talents, and to another one talent—each according to his own ability {dynamin}. And he went on his journey. To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey.
16 The servant who had received the five talents went at once and put them to work and gained five more. The man who had received five bags of gold went at once and put his money to work and gained five bags more.
17 Likewise, the one with the two talents gained two more. So also he who had the two talents made two talents more. So also, the one with two bags of gold gained two more.
18 But the servant who had received the one talent went off, dug a hole in the ground, and hid his master’s {kyriou} money (silver). But he who had received the one talent went and dug in the ground and hid his master’s money. But the man who had received one bag went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money.

See, I have gained five more.’
21 His master {kyrios} replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant {doule}! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Enter into the joy of your master {kyriou}! His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’
22 The servant who had received the two talents also came and said, ‘Master {Kyrie}, you entrusted me with two talents. See (behold), I have gained two more. And he also who had the two talents came forward, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me two talents; here, I have made two talents more.’ “The man with two bags of gold also came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with two bags of gold; see, I have gained two more.’

24 Finally, the servant who had received the one talent came and said, ‘Master {Kyrie}, I knew that you are a hard man, reaping where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. He also who had received the one talent came forward, saying, ‘Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you scattered no seed, “Then the man who had received one bag of gold came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed.
25 So I was afraid and went out and hid your talent in the ground. See (behold), you have what belongs to you. so I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the ground. Here, you have what is yours.’ So I was afraid and went out and hid your gold in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’
26 ‘You wicked, lazy servant {doule}! replied his master {kyrios}. ‘You knew that I reap where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed. But his master answered him, ‘You wicked and slothful servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sown and gather where I scattered no seed? “His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed?
27 Then you should have deposited my money (silver) with the bankers, and on my return I would have received it back with interest. Then you ought to have invested my money with the bankers, and at my coming I should have received what was my own with interest. Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.
28 Therefore take the talent from him and give it to the one who has ten talents. So take the talent from him and give it to him who has the ten talents. “’So take the bag of gold from him and give it to the one who has ten bags.
29 For everyone who has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. But the one who does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. For to everyone who has will more be given, and he will have an abundance. But from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away. For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.
30 And throw that worthless servant {doulon} into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing (grinding) of teeth. And cast the worthless servant into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

35 For I was hungry and you⁺ gave Me something to eat, I was thirsty and you⁺ gave Me something to drink, I was a stranger and you⁺ took Me in, For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,
36 I was naked and you⁺ clothed Me, I was sick and you⁺ looked after Me, I was in prison and you⁺ visited Me. 37 Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord {Kyrie}, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You something to drink? Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?
38 When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you?
39 When did we see You sick or in prison and visit You? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
40 And the King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you⁺, whatever you⁺ did for one of the least of these brothers (or sisters) of Mine, you⁺ did for Me. And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’ “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
41 Then He will say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil {diabolō} and his angels (messengers). “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.

43 I was a stranger and you⁺ did not take Me in, I was naked and you⁺ did not clothe Me, I was sick and in prison and you⁺ did not look after Me. I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’ I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’
44 And they too will reply, ‘Lord {Kyrie}, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You? Then they also will answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?’ “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’
45 Then the King will answer, ‘Truly I tell you⁺, whatever you⁺ did not do for one of the least of these, you⁺ did not do for Me. Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’
46 And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life. And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”
