1	And the entire multitude of them, rising up, led him to Pilate.	Then the whole company of them arose and brought him before Pilate.	Then the whole assembly rose and led him off to Pilate.
2	Then they began to accuse him, saying, “We found this one subverting our nation, and prohibiting giving tribute to Caesar, and saying that he is Christ the king.”	And they began to accuse him, saying, “We found this man misleading our nation and forbidding us to give tribute to Caesar, and saying that he himself is Christ, a king.”	And they began to accuse him, saying, “We have found this man subverting our nation. He opposes payment of taxes to Caesar and claims to be Messiah, a king.”
3	And Pilate questioned him, saying: “You are the king of the Jews?” But in response, he said: “You are saying it.”	And Pilate asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” And he answered him, “You have said so.”	So Pilate asked Jesus, “Are you the king of the Jews?” “You have said so,” Jesus replied.
4	Then Pilate said to the leaders of the priests and to the crowds, “I find no case against this man.”	Then Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowds, “I find no guilt in this man.”	Then Pilate announced to the chief priests and the crowd, “I find no basis for a charge against this man.”
5	But they continued more intensely, saying: “He has stirred up the people, teaching throughout all of Judea, beginning from Galilee, even to this place.”	But they were urgent, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, from Galilee even to this place.”	But they insisted, “He stirs up the people all over Judea by his teaching. He started in Galilee and has come all the way here.”
6	But Pilate, upon hearing Galilee, asked if the man were of Galilee.	When Pilate heard this, he asked whether the man was a Galilean.	On hearing this, Pilate asked if the man was a Galilean.
7	And when he realized that he was under Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him away to Herod, who was himself also at Jerusalem in those days.	And when he learned that he belonged to Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him over to Herod, who was himself in Jerusalem at that time.	When he learned that Jesus was under Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem at that time.
8	Then Herod, upon seeing Jesus, was very glad. 11	Then Herod, with his soldiers, scorned him. And he ridiculed him, clothing him in a white garment. And he sent him back to Pilate.	And Herod with his soldiers treated him with contempt and mocked him. Then, arraying him in splendid clothing, he sent him back to Pilate.	Then Herod and his soldiers ridiculed and mocked him. Dressing him in an elegant robe, they sent him back to Pilate.
12	And Herod and Pilate became friends on that day. For previously they were enemies to one another. 14	said to them: “You have brought before me this man, as one who disturbs the people. And behold, having questioned him before you, I find no case against this man, in those things about which you accuse him.	and said to them, “You brought me this man as one who was misleading the people. And after examining him before you, behold, I did not find this man guilty of any of your charges against him.	and said to them, “You brought me this man as one who was inciting the people to rebellion. I have examined him in your presence and have found no basis for your charges against him.
15	And neither did Herod. For I sent you all to him, and behold, nothing deserving of death was recorded about him.	Neither did Herod, for he sent him back to us. Look, nothing deserving death has been done by him.	Neither has Herod, for he sent him back to us; as you can see, he has done nothing to deserve death.
16	Therefore, I will chastise him and release him.”	I will therefore punish and release him.”	Therefore, I will punish him and then release him.”
17	Now he was required to release one person for them on the feast day.
18	But the entire crowd exclaimed together, saying: “Take this one, and release to us Barabbas!”	But they all cried out together, “Away with this man, and release to us Barabbas”—	But the whole crowd shouted, “Away with this man! Release Barabbas to us!”
19	Now he had been cast into prison because of a certain sedition that occurred in the city and for murder.	a man who had been thrown into prison for an insurrection started in the city and for murder.	(Barabbas had been thrown into prison for an insurrection in the city, and for murder.)
20	Then Pilate spoke to them again, wanting to release Jesus.	Pilate addressed them once more, desiring to release Jesus,	Wanting to release Jesus, Pilate appealed to them again.

I have found in him no grounds for the death penalty. Therefore I will have him punished and then release him.”
23	But they persisted, with loud voices, in demanding that he be crucified. And their voices increased in intensity.	But they were urgent, demanding with loud cries that he should be crucified. And their voices prevailed.	But with loud shouts they insistently demanded that he be crucified, and their shouts prevailed.
24	And so Pilate issued a judgment granting their petition.	So Pilate decided that their demand should be granted.	So Pilate decided to grant their demand.
25	Then he released for them the one who had been cast into prison for murder and sedition, whom they were requesting. Yet truly, Jesus he handed over to their will.	He released the man who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, for whom they asked, but he delivered Jesus over to their will.	He released the man who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, the one they asked for, and surrendered Jesus to their will.
26	And as they were leading him away, they apprehended a certain one, Simon of Cyrene, as he was returning from the countryside. And they imposed the cross on him to carry after Jesus. 28	But Jesus, turning to them, said: “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep over me. Instead, weep over yourselves and over your children. 29	For behold, the days will arrive in which they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that have not borne, and the breasts that have not nursed.’	For behold, the days are coming when they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren and the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!’	For the time will come when you will say, ‘Blessed are the childless women, the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!’
30	Then they will begin to say to the mountains, ‘Fall over us,’ and to the hills, ‘Cover us.’	Then they will begin to say to the mountains, ‘Fall on us,’ and to the hills, ‘Cover us.’	Then “’they will say to the mountains, “Fall on us!” and to the hills, “Cover us!\|’
31	For if they do these things with green wood, what will be done with the dry?”	For if they do these things when the wood is green, what will happen when it is dry?”	For if people do these things when the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?”
32	Now they also led out two other criminals with him, in order to execute them.	Two others, who were criminals, were led away to be put to death with him.	Two other men, both criminals, were also led out with him to be executed.
33	And when they arrived at the place that is called Calvary, they crucified him there, with the robbers, one to the right and the other to the left.	And when they came to the place that is called The Skull, there they crucified him, and the criminals, one on his right and one on his left.	When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him there, along with the criminals—one on his right, the other on his left.
34	Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them. For they know not what they do.” And truly, dividing his garments, they cast lots.	And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” And they cast lots to divide his garments.	Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.
35	And people were standing near, watching. And the leaders among them derided him, saying: “He saved others. Let him save himself, if this one is the Christ, the elect of God.”	And the people stood by, watching, but the rulers scoffed at him, saying, “He saved others; let him save himself, if he is the Christ of God, his Chosen One!”	The people stood watching, and the rulers even sneered at him. They said, “He saved others; let him save himself if he is God’s Messiah, the Chosen One.”
36	And the soldiers also ridiculed him, approaching him and offering him vinegar,	The soldiers also mocked him, coming up and offering him sour wine	The soldiers also came up and mocked him. They offered him wine vinegar
37	and saying, “If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself.”	and saying, “If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!”	and said, “If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself.”

39	And one of those robbers who were hanging blasphemed him, saying, “If you are the Christ, save yourself and us.”	One of the criminals who were hanged railed at him, saying, “Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us!”	One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!”
40	But the other responded by rebuking him, saying: “Do you have no fear of God, since you are under the same condemnation?	But the other rebuked him, saying, “Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation?	But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence?
41	And indeed, it is just for us. For we are receiving what our deeds deserve. But truly, this one has done nothing wrong.”	And we indeed justly, for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.”	We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.”
42	And he said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”	And he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”	Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”
43	And Jesus said to him, “Amen I say to you, this day you shall be with me in Paradise.”	And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.”	Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
44	Now it was nearly the sixth hour, and a darkness occurred over the entire earth, until the ninth hour.	It was now about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour,	It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon,

46	And Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said: “Father, into your hands I commend my spirit.” And upon saying this, he expired. 47	Now, the centurion, seeing what had happened, glorified God, saying, “Truly, this man was the Just One.”	Now when the centurion saw what had taken place, he praised God, saying, “Certainly this man was innocent!”	The centurion, seeing what had happened, praised God and said, “Surely this was a righteous man.”
48	And the entire crowd of those who came together to see this spectacle also saw what had happened, and they returned, striking their breasts.	And all the crowds that had assembled for this spectacle, when they saw what had taken place, returned home beating their breasts.	When all the people who had gathered to witness this sight saw what took place, they beat their breasts and went away.
49	Now all those who knew him, and the women who had followed him from Galilee, were standing at a distance, watching these things.	And all his acquaintances and the women who had followed him from Galilee stood at a distance watching these things.	But all those who knew him, including the women who had followed him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these things.
50	And behold, there was a man named Joseph, who was a councilman, a good and just man,	Now there was a man named Joseph, from the Jewish town of Arimathea. He was a member of the council, a good and righteous man,	Now there was a man named Joseph, a member of the Council, a good and upright man,
51	(for he had not consented to their decision or their actions). He was from Arimathea, a city of Judea.
