1 And He spake a parable to them, to the end that they ought always to pray, and not to faint; And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart. Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.
2 saying, "There was in a city a judge, who feared not God, nor regarded man. He said, “In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor respected man. He said: “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought.
3 And there was a widow in that city; and she kept coming to him, saying, 'Avenge me of my adversary.' And there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, ‘Give me justice against my adversary.’ And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.’
4 And he would not for a time; but afterward he said within himself, 'Though I fear not God, nor regard man; For a while he refused, but afterward he said to himself, ‘Though I neither fear God nor respect man, “For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think,
5 yet, because this widow occasions me trouble, I will avenge her, lest, by her persistent coming, she wear me out.'" yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will give her justice, so that she will not beat me down by her continual coming.’” yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually come and attack me!’”
6 And the Lord said, "Hear what the judge of unrighteousness says. And the Lord said, “Hear what the unrighteous judge says. And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says.
7 And will not God avenge His elect, who are crying to Him day and night, and He is long suffering over them? And will not God give justice to his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them? And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off?
8 I say to you, that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, will the Son of Man, when He cometh, find the faith on the earth?" I tell you, he will give justice to them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?” I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”
9 And He spake also this parable to some who had trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised the rest: He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and treated others with contempt: To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable:
10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; one a Pharisee, and the other a tax-collector. “Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.
11 The Pharisee, having taken his stand, was praying these things with himself: 'God, I thank Thee that I am not as the rest of men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax-collector! The Pharisee, standing by himself, prayed thus: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector.
12 I fast twice on the Sabbath; I give a tenth of all that I acquire.' I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I get.’ I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’
13 "But the tax-collector, standing afar off, would not lift up even his eyes to heaven, but was smiting his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me, the sinner!' But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’ “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’
14 I say to you, this man went down justified to his house, rather than the other; because every one who exalts himself shall be humbled, but he who humbles himself shall be exalted." I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.” “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
15 And they were bringing to Him their babes, also, that He might touch them; but the disciples, seeing it, were rebuking them. Now they were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them. And when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them. People were also bringing babies to Jesus for him to place his hands on them. When the disciples saw this, they rebuked them.
16 But Jesus called them to Him , saying, "Suffer the little children to come to Me, and forbid them not; for to such belongs the Kingdom of God. But Jesus called them to him, saying, “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.
17 Verily I say to you, whosoever does not receive the Kingdom of God as a little child, shall in no wise enter therein." Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”
18 And a certain ruler asked Him, saying, "Good Teacher, by doing what shall I inherit eternal life?" And a ruler asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” A certain ruler asked him, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
19 And Jesus said to him, "Why do you call Me good? No one is good, but One—God. And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone. “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone.
20 You know the commandments, 'Do not commit adultery,' 'Do not kill,' 'Do not steal,' 'Do not bear false witness,' 'Honor your father and your mother.'" You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery, Do not murder, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother.’” You know the commandments: ‘You shall not commit adultery, you shall not murder, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, honor your father and mother.’”
21 And he said, "All these I observed from my youth." And he said, “All these I have kept from my youth.” “All these I have kept since I was a boy,” he said.
22 And Jesus, hearing it said to him, "Yet one thing is lacking to you; sell all that you have, and distribute to the poor, and you shall have treasure in Heaven, and come, follow Me." When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
23 And, when he heard these things, he became very sorrowful; for he was exceedingly rich. But when he heard these things, he became very sad, for he was extremely rich. When he heard this, he became very sad, because he was very wealthy.
24 And Jesus, seeing him, said, "With what difficulty do those having riches enter into the Kingdom of God! Jesus, seeing that he had become sad, said, “How difficult it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God! Jesus looked at him and said, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!
25 for it is easier for a camel to enter through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the Kingdom of God." For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.” Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”
26 And those hearing it said, "And who can be saved?" Those who heard it said, “Then who can be saved?” Those who heard this asked, “Who then can be saved?”
27 But He said, "The things impossible with men are possible with God." But he said, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.” Jesus replied, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.”
28 And Peter said, "Behold, having left our possessions, we followed Thee." And Peter said, “See, we have left our homes and followed you.” Peter said to him, “We have left all we had to follow you!”
29 And He said to them, "Verily I say to you there is no one who left house, or wife, or brothers, or parents, or children for the sake of the Kingdom of God, And he said to them, “Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or wife or brothers or parents or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, “Truly I tell you,” Jesus said to them, “no one who has left home or wife or brothers or sisters or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God
30 who shall not receive manifold more in this time, and in the coming age eternal life." who will not receive many times more in this time, and in the age to come eternal life.” will fail to receive many times as much in this age, and in the age to come eternal life.”
31 And, taking the twelve aside, He said to them, "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem; and all the things, written through the prophets respecting the Son of Man, will be accomplished; And taking the twelve, he said to them, “See, we are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written about the Son of Man by the prophets will be accomplished. Jesus took the Twelve aside and told them, “We are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written by the prophets about the Son of Man will be fulfilled.
32 for He will be delivered up to the gentiles, and will be mocked, and insulted, and spit upon, For he will be delivered over to the Gentiles and will be mocked and shamefully treated and spit upon. He will be delivered over to the Gentiles. They will mock him, insult him and spit on him;
33 and they will scourge Him, and kill Him; and, on the third day, He will rise again." And after flogging him, they will kill him, and on the third day he will rise.” they will flog him and kill him. On the third day he will rise again.”
34 And they understood none of these things; and this saying was hidden from them, and they were not understanding the things being said. But they understood none of these things. This saying was hidden from them, and they did not grasp what was said. The disciples did not understand any of this. Its meaning was hidden from them, and they did not know what he was talking about.
35 And it came to pass, when He was drawing near to Jericho, that a certain blind man was sitting by the wayside, begging. As he drew near to Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. As Jesus approached Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging.
36 And, hearing a multitude passing along, he was inquiring what this might be. And hearing a crowd going by, he inquired what this meant. When he heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening.
37 And they told him, that Jesus the Nazarene was passing by. They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.” They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.”
38 And he cried, saying, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!" And he cried out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” He called out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”
39 And those going before were rebuking him, that he should be silent; but he kept crying out much more, "Son of David, have mercy on me!" And those who were in front rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” Those who led the way rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
40 And Jesus, standing still, commanded that he be brought to Him; and, when he drew near, He asked him, And Jesus stopped and commanded him to be brought to him. And when he came near, he asked him, Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. When he came near, Jesus asked him,
41 "What do you wish that I should do for you?" And he said, "Lord, that I may receive sight." “What do you want me to do for you?” He said, “Lord, let me recover my sight.” “What do you want me to do for you?” “Lord, I want to see,” he replied.
42 And Jesus said to him, "Receive sight; your faith has made you whole." And Jesus said to him, “Recover your sight; your faith has made you well.” Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has healed you.”
43 And instantly he received sight, and was following Him, glorifying God. And all the people, seeing it , gave praise to God. And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him, glorifying God. And all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God. Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, praising God. When all the people saw it, they also praised God.
