1 Then he told them a parable about the necessity for them to pray always without becoming weary. He said, And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart. Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.
2 “There was a judge in a certain town who neither feared God nor respected any human being. He said, “In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor respected man. He said: “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought.
3 And a widow in that town used to come to him and say, ‘Render a just decision for me against my adversary.’ And there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, ‘Give me justice against my adversary.’ And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.’
4 For a long time the judge was unwilling, but eventually he thought, ‘While it is true that I neither fear God nor respect any human being, For a while he refused, but afterward he said to himself, ‘Though I neither fear God nor respect man, “For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think,
5 because this widow keeps bothering me I shall deliver a just decision for her lest she finally come and strike me.’” yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will give her justice, so that she will not beat me down by her continual coming.’” yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually come and attack me!’”
6 The Lord said, “Pay attention to what the dishonest judge says. And the Lord said, “Hear what the unrighteous judge says. And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says.
7 Will not God then secure the rights of his chosen ones who call out to him day and night? Will he be slow to answer them? And will not God give justice to his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them? And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off?
8 I tell you, he will see to it that justice is done for them speedily. But when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?” I tell you, he will give justice to them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?” I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”
9 He then addressed this parable to those who were convinced of their own righteousness and despised everyone else. He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and treated others with contempt: To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable:
10 “Two people went up to the temple area to pray; one was a Pharisee and the other was a tax collector. “Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.
11 The Pharisee took up his position and spoke this prayer to himself, ‘O God, I thank you that I am not like the rest of humanity—greedy, dishonest, adulterous—or even like this tax collector. The Pharisee, standing by himself, prayed thus: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector.
12 I fast twice a week, and I pay tithes on my whole income.’ I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I get.’ I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’
13 But the tax collector stood off at a distance and would not even raise his eyes to heaven but beat his breast and prayed, ‘O God, be merciful to me a sinner.’ But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’ “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’
14 I tell you, the latter went home justified, not the former; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and the one who humbles himself will be exalted.” I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.” “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
15 People were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them, and when the disciples saw this, they rebuked them. Now they were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them. 18 An official asked him this question, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” And a ruler asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” A certain ruler asked him, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
19 Jesus answered him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone. And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone. “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone.
20 You know the commandments, ‘You shall not commit adultery; you shall not kill; you shall not steal; you shall not bear false witness; honor your father and your mother.’” You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery, Do not murder, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother.’” You know the commandments: ‘You shall not commit adultery, you shall not murder, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, honor your father and mother.’”
21 And he replied, “All of these I have observed from my youth.” And he said, “All these I have kept from my youth.” “All these I have kept since I was a boy,” he said.
22 When Jesus heard this he said to him, “There is still one thing left for you: sell all that you have and distribute it to the poor, and you will have a treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
23 But when he heard this he became quite sad, for he was very rich. But when he heard these things, he became very sad, for he was extremely rich. When he heard this, he became very sad, because he was very wealthy.
24 Jesus looked at him [now sad] and said, “How hard it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God! Jesus, seeing that he had become sad, said, “How difficult it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God! Jesus looked at him and said, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!
25 For it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.” For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.” Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”
26 Those who heard this said, “Then who can be saved?” Those who heard it said, “Then who can be saved?” Those who heard this asked, “Who then can be saved?”
27 And he said, “What is impossible for human beings is possible for God.” But he said, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.” Jesus replied, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.”
28 Then Peter said, “We have given up our possessions and followed you.” And Peter said, “See, we have left our homes and followed you.” Peter said to him, “We have left all we had to follow you!”
29 He said to them, “Amen, I say to you, there is no one who has given up house or wife or brothers or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God And he said to them, “Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or wife or brothers or parents or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, “Truly I tell you,” Jesus said to them, “no one who has left home or wife or brothers or sisters or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God
30 who will not receive [back] an overabundant return in this present age and eternal life in the age to come.” who will not receive many times more in this time, and in the age to come eternal life.” will fail to receive many times as much in this age, and in the age to come eternal life.”
31 Then he took the Twelve aside and said to them, “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem and everything written by the prophets about the Son of Man will be fulfilled. 34 But they understood nothing of this; the word remained hidden from them and they failed to comprehend what he said. But they understood none of these things. This saying was hidden from them, and they did not grasp what was said. The disciples did not understand any of this. Its meaning was hidden from them, and they did not know what he was talking about.

But he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” Those who led the way rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
40 Then Jesus stopped and ordered that he be brought to him; and when he came near, Jesus asked him, And Jesus stopped and commanded him to be brought to him. And when he came near, he asked him, Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. When he came near, Jesus asked him,

42 Jesus told him, “Have sight; your faith has saved you.” And Jesus said to him, “Recover your sight; your faith has made you well.” Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has healed you.”
43 He immediately received his sight and followed him, giving glory to God. When they saw this, all the people gave praise to God. And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him, glorifying God. And all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God. Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, praising God. When all the people saw it, they also praised God.
