Jacob Meets Esau

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
Jacob looked up and there was Esau, coming with his four hundred men; so he divided the children among Leah, Rachel and the two female servants.1And Jacob lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, Esau was coming, and four hundred men with him. So he divided the children among Leah and Rachel and the two female servants.1Then Jacob lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, Esau was coming, and four hundred men with him. So he divided the children among Leah and Rachel and the two maids.1And Jacob lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, Esau came, and with him four hundred men. And he divided the children unto Leah, and unto Rachel, and unto the two handmaids.1Now Jacob looked up and saw Esau coming toward him with 400 men. So he divided the children among Leah, Rachel, and the two female slaves.
He put the female servants and their children in front, Leah and her children next, and Rachel and Joseph in the rear.2And he put the servants with their children in front, then Leah with her children, and Rachel and Joseph last of all.2He put the maids and their children in front, and Leah and her children next, and Rachel and Joseph last.2And he put the handmaids and their children foremost, and Leah and her children after, and Rachel and Joseph hindermost.2He put the female slaves and their children first, Leah and her children next, and Rachel and Joseph last.
He himself went on ahead and bowed down to the ground seven times as he approached his brother.3He himself went on before them, bowing himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.3But he himself passed on ahead of them and bowed down to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.3And he passed over before them, and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.3He himself went on ahead and bowed to the ground seven times until he approached his brother.
But Esau ran to meet Jacob and embraced him; he threw his arms around his neck and kissed him. And they wept.4But Esau ran to meet him and embraced him and fell on his neck and kissed him, and they wept.4Then Esau ran to meet him and embraced him, and fell on his neck and kissed him, and they wept.4And Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him: and they wept.4But Esau ran to meet him, hugged him, threw his arms around him, and kissed him. Then they wept.

Then Esau looked up and saw the women and children. "Who are these with you?" he asked. Jacob answered, "They are the children God has graciously given your servant."5And when Esau lifted up his eyes and saw the women and children, he said, “Who are these with you?” Jacob said, “The children whom God has graciously given your servant.”5He lifted his eyes and saw the women and the children, and said, "Who are these with you?" So he said, "The children whom God has graciously given your servant."5And he lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the children; and said, Who are those with thee? And he said, The children which God hath graciously given thy servant.5When Esau looked up and saw the women and children, he asked, "Who are these with you?" He answered, "The children God has graciously given your servant."
Then the female servants and their children approached and bowed down.6Then the servants drew near, they and their children, and bowed down.6Then the maids came near with their children, and they bowed down.6Then the handmaidens came near, they and their children, and they bowed themselves.6Then the female slaves and their children approached him and bowed down.
Next, Leah and her children came and bowed down. Last of all came Joseph and Rachel, and they too bowed down.7Leah likewise and her children drew near and bowed down. And last Joseph and Rachel drew near, and they bowed down.7Leah likewise came near with her children, and they bowed down; and afterward Joseph came near with Rachel, and they bowed down.7And Leah also with her children came near, and bowed themselves: and after came Joseph near and Rachel, and they bowed themselves.7Leah and her children also approached and bowed down, and then Joseph and Rachel approached and bowed down.
Esau asked, "What's the meaning of all these flocks and herds I met?" "To find favor in your eyes, my lord," he said.8Esau said, “What do you mean by all this company that I met?” Jacob answered, “To find favor in the sight of my lord.”8And he said, "What do you mean by all this company which I have met?" And he said, "To find favor in the sight of my lord."8And he said, What meanest thou by all this drove which I met? And he said, These are to find grace in the sight of my lord.8So Esau said, "What do you mean by this whole procession I met?"" To find favor with you, my lord," he answered."
But Esau said, "I already have plenty, my brother. Keep what you have for yourself."9But Esau said, “I have enough, my brother; keep what you have for yourself.”9But Esau said, "I have plenty, my brother; let what you have be your own."9And Esau said, I have enough, my brother; keep that thou hast unto thyself.9I have enough, my brother," Esau replied. "Keep what you have."

"No, please!" said Jacob. "If I have found favor in your eyes, accept this gift from me. For to see your face is like seeing the face of God, now that you have received me favorably.10Jacob said, “No, please, if I have found favor in your sight, then accept my present from my hand. For I have seen your face, which is like seeing the face of God, and you have accepted me.10Jacob said, "No, please, if now I have found favor in your sight, then take my present from my hand, for I see your face as one sees the face of God, and you have received me favorably.10And Jacob said, Nay, I pray thee, if now I have found grace in thy sight, then receive my present at my hand: for therefore I have seen thy face, as though I had seen the face of God, and thou wast pleased with me.10But Jacob said, "No, please! If I have found favor with you, take this gift from my hand. For indeed, I have seen your face, and it is like seeing God's face, since you have accepted me.
Please accept the present that was brought to you, for God has been gracious to me and I have all I need." And because Jacob insisted, Esau accepted it.11Please accept my blessing that is brought to you, because God has dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough.” Thus he urged him, and he took it.11"Please take my gift which has been brought to you, because God has dealt graciously with me and because I have plenty." Thus he urged him and he took it.11Take, I pray thee, my blessing that is brought to thee; because God hath dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough. And he urged him, and he took it.11Please take my present that was brought to you, because God has been gracious to me and I have everything I need." So Jacob urged him until he accepted.
Then Esau said, "Let us be on our way; I'll accompany you."12Then Esau said, “Let us journey on our way, and I will go ahead of you.”12Then Esau said, "Let us take our journey and go, and I will go before you."12And he said, Let us take our journey, and let us go, and I will go before thee.12Then Esau said, "Let's move on, and I'll go ahead of you."
But Jacob said to him, "My lord knows that the children are tender and that I must care for the ewes and cows that are nursing their young. If they are driven hard just one day, all the animals will die.13But Jacob said to him, “My lord knows that the children are frail, and that the nursing flocks and herds are a care to me. If they are driven hard for one day, all the flocks will die.13But he said to him, "My lord knows that the children are frail and that the flocks and herds which are nursing are a care to me. And if they are driven hard one day, all the flocks will die.13And he said unto him, My lord knoweth that the children are tender, and the flocks and herds with young are with me: and if men should overdrive them one day, all the flock will die.13Jacob replied, "My lord knows that the children are weak, and I have nursing sheep and cattle. If they are driven hard for one day, the whole herd will die.
So let my lord go on ahead of his servant, while I move along slowly at the pace of the flocks and herds before me and the pace of the children, until I come to my lord in Seir."14Let my lord pass on ahead of his servant, and I will lead on slowly, at the pace of the livestock that are ahead of me and at the pace of the children, until I come to my lord in Seir.”14"Please let my lord pass on before his servant, and I will proceed at my leisure, according to the pace of the cattle that are before me and according to the pace of the children, until I come to my lord at Seir."14Let my lord, I pray thee, pass over before his servant: and I will lead on softly, according as the cattle that goeth before me and the children be able to endure, until I come unto my lord unto Seir.14Let my lord go ahead of his servant. I will continue on slowly, at a pace suited to the livestock and the children, until I come to my lord at Seir."

Esau said, "Then let me leave some of my men with you." "But why do that?" Jacob asked. "Just let me find favor in the eyes of my lord."15So Esau said, “Let me leave with you some of the people who are with me.” But he said, “What need is there? Let me find favor in the sight of my lord.”15Esau said, "Please let me leave with you some of the people who are with me." But he said, "What need is there? Let me find favor in the sight of my lord."15And Esau said, Let me now leave with thee some of the folk that are with me. And he said, What needeth it? let me find grace in the sight of my lord.15Esau said, "Let me leave some of my people with you." But he replied, "Why do that? Please indulge me, my lord."
So that day Esau started on his way back to Seir.16So Esau returned that day on his way to Seir.16So Esau returned that day on his way to Seir.16So Esau returned that day on his way unto Seir.16That day Esau started on his way back to Seir,
Jacob, however, went to Sukkoth, where he built a place for himself and made shelters for his livestock. That is why the place is called Sukkoth.17But Jacob journeyed to Succoth, and built himself a house and made booths for his livestock. Therefore the name of the place is called Succoth.17Jacob journeyed to Succoth, and built for himself a house and made booths for his livestock; therefore the place is named Succoth.17And Jacob journeyed to Succoth, and built him an house, and made booths for his cattle: therefore the name of the place is called Succoth.17but Jacob went on to Succoth. He built a house for himself and stalls for his livestock; that is why the place was called Succoth.
