A well-written song by Ethan the Ezrachite. I will sing continually about the LORD's faithful deeds; to future generations I will proclaim your faithfulness. 1Maschil of Ethan the Ezrahite. I will sing of the mercies of the LORD for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations.
For I say, "Loyal love is permanently established; in the skies you set up your faithfulness." 2For I have said, Mercy shall be built up for ever: thy faithfulness shalt thou establish in the very heavens.
The LORD said, "I have made a covenant with my chosen one; I have made a promise on oath to David, my servant: 3I have made a covenant with my chosen, I have sworn unto David my servant,
I will give you an eternal dynasty and establish your throne throughout future generations.'" (Selah) 4Thy seed will I establish for ever, and build up thy throne to all generations. Selah.
O LORD, the heavens praise your amazing deeds, as well as your faithfulness in the angelic assembly. 5And the heavens shall praise thy wonders, O LORD: thy faithfulness also in the congregation of the saints.
For who in the skies can compare to the LORD? Who is like the LORD among the heavenly beings, 6For who in the heaven can be compared unto the LORD? who among the sons of the mighty can be likened unto the LORD?
a God who is honored in the great angelic assembly, and more awesome than all who surround him? 7God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be had in reverence of all them that are about him.
O LORD, sovereign God! Who is strong like you, O LORD? Your faithfulness surrounds you. 8O LORD God of hosts, who is a strong LORD like unto thee? or to thy faithfulness round about thee?
You rule over the proud sea. When its waves surge, you calm them. 9Thou rulest the raging of the sea: when the waves thereof arise, thou stillest them.
You crushed the Proud One and killed it; with your strong arm you scattered your enemies. 10Thou hast broken Rahab in pieces, as one that is slain; thou hast scattered thine enemies with thy strong arm.
The heavens belong to you, as does the earth. You made the world and all it contains. 11The heavens are thine, the earth also is thine: as for the world and the fulness thereof, thou hast founded them.
You created the north and the south. Tabor and Hermon rejoice in your name. 12The north and the south thou hast created them: Tabor and Hermon shall rejoice in thy name.
Your arm is powerful, your hand strong, your right hand victorious. 13Thou hast a mighty arm: strong is thy hand, and high is thy right hand.
Equity and justice are the foundation of your throne. Loyal love and faithfulness characterize your rule. 14Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy face.
How blessed are the people who worship you! O LORD, they experience your favor. 15Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O LORD, in the light of thy countenance.
They rejoice in your name all day long, and are vindicated by your justice. 16In thy name shall they rejoice all the day: and in thy righteousness shall they be exalted.
For you give them splendor and strength. By your favor we are victorious. 17For thou art the glory of their strength: and in thy favour our horn shall be exalted.
For our shield belongs to the LORD, our king to the Holy One of Israel. 18For the LORD is our defence; and the Holy One of Israel is our king.
Then you spoke through a vision to your faithful followers and said: "I have energized a warrior; I have raised up a young man from the people. 19Then thou spakest in vision to thy holy one, and saidst, I have laid help upon one that is mighty; I have exalted one chosen out of the people.
I have discovered David, my servant. With my holy oil I have anointed him as king. 20I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him:
My hand will support him, and my arm will strengthen him. 21With whom my hand shall be established: mine arm also shall strengthen him.
No enemy will be able to exact tribute from him; a violent oppressor will not be able to humiliate him. 22The enemy shall not exact upon him; nor the son of wickedness afflict him.
I will crush his enemies before him; I will strike down those who hate him. 23And I will beat down his foes before his face, and plague them that hate him.
He will experience my faithfulness and loyal love, and by my name he will win victories. 24But my faithfulness and my mercy shall be with him: and in my name shall his horn be exalted.
I will place his hand over the sea, his right hand over the rivers. 25I will set his hand also in the sea, and his right hand in the rivers.
He will call out to me, 'You are my father, my God, and the protector who delivers me.' 26He shall cry unto me, Thou art my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation.
I will appoint him to be my firstborn son, the most exalted of the earth's kings. 27Also I will make him my firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth.
I will always extend my loyal love to him, and my covenant with him is secure. 28My mercy will I keep for him for evermore, and my covenant shall stand fast with him.
I will give him an eternal dynasty, and make his throne as enduring as the skies above. 29His seed also will I make to endure for ever, and his throne as the days of heaven.
If his sons reject my law and disobey my regulations, 30If his children forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments;
if they break my rules and do not keep my commandments, 31If they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments;
I will punish their rebellion by beating them with a club, their sin by inflicting them with bruises. 32Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes.
But I will not remove my loyal love from him, nor be unfaithful to my promise. 33Nevertheless my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, nor suffer my faithfulness to fail.
I will not break my covenant or go back on what I promised. 34My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.
Once and for all I have vowed by my own holiness, I will never deceive David. 35Once have I sworn by my holiness that I will not lie unto David.
His dynasty will last forever. His throne will endure before me, like the sun, 36His seed shall endure for ever, and his throne as the sun before me.
it will remain stable, like the moon, his throne will endure like the skies." (Selah) 37It shall be established for ever as the moon, and as a faithful witness in heaven. Selah.
But you have spurned and rejected him; you are angry with your chosen king. 38But thou hast cast off and abhorred, thou hast been wroth with thine anointed.
You have repudiated your covenant with your servant; you have thrown his crown to the ground. 39Thou hast made void the covenant of thy servant: thou hast profaned his crown by casting it to the ground.
You have broken down all his walls; you have made his strongholds a heap of ruins. 40Thou hast broken down all his hedges; thou hast brought his strong holds to ruin.
All who pass by have robbed him; he has become an object of disdain to his neighbors. 41All that pass by the way spoil him: he is a reproach to his neighbours.
You have allowed his adversaries to be victorious, and all his enemies to rejoice. 42Thou hast set up the right hand of his adversaries; thou hast made all his enemies to rejoice.
You turn back his sword from the adversary, and have not sustained him in battle. 43Thou hast also turned the edge of his sword, and hast not made him to stand in the battle.
You have brought to an end his splendor, and have knocked his throne to the ground. 44Thou hast made his glory to cease, and cast his throne down to the ground.
You have cut short his youth, and have covered him with shame. (Selah) 45The days of his youth hast thou shortened: thou hast covered him with shame. Selah.
How long, O LORD, will this last? Will you remain hidden forever? Will your anger continue to burn like fire? 46How long, LORD? wilt thou hide thyself for ever? shall thy wrath burn like fire?
Take note of my brief lifespan! Why do you make all people so mortal? 47Remember how short my time is: wherefore hast thou made all men in vain?
No man can live on without experiencing death, or deliver his life from the power of Sheol. (Selah) 48What man is he that liveth, and shall not see death? shall he deliver his soul from the hand of the grave? Selah.
Where are your earlier faithful deeds, O Lord, the ones performed in accordance with your reliable oath to David? 49Lord, where are thy former lovingkindnesses, which thou swarest unto David in thy truth?
Take note, O Lord, of the way your servants are taunted, and of how I must bear so many insults from people! 50Remember, Lord, the reproach of thy servants; how I do bear in my bosom the reproach of all the mighty people;
Your enemies, O LORD, hurl insults; they insult your chosen king as they dog his footsteps. 51Wherewith thine enemies have reproached, O LORD; wherewith they have reproached the footsteps of thine anointed.
The LORD deserves praise forevermore! We agree! We agree! 52Blessed be the LORD for evermore. Amen, and Amen.
