Psalm 89
NET Parallel ISV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
NET BibleInternational Standard Version
A well-written song by Ethan the Ezrachite. I will sing continually about the LORD's faithful deeds; to future generations I will proclaim your faithfulness. 1I will sing forever about the gracious love of the LORD; from generation to generation I will declare your faithfulness with my mouth.
For I say, "Loyal love is permanently established; in the skies you set up your faithfulness." 2I will declare that your gracious love was established forever; in the heavens itself, you have established your faithfulness.
The LORD said, "I have made a covenant with my chosen one; I have made a promise on oath to David, my servant: 3I have made a covenant with my chosen one; I have made a promise to David, my servant.
I will give you an eternal dynasty and establish your throne throughout future generations.'" (Selah) 4"I will establish your dynasty forever, and I will lift up one who will build your throne from generation to generation." Interlude
O LORD, the heavens praise your amazing deeds, as well as your faithfulness in the angelic assembly. 5Even the heavens praise your awesome deeds, LORD, your faithfulness in the assembly of the holy ones.
For who in the skies can compare to the LORD? Who is like the LORD among the heavenly beings, 6For who in the skies compares to the LORD? Who is like the LORD among the divine beings?
a God who is honored in the great angelic assembly, and more awesome than all who surround him? 7God is feared in the council of the holy ones, revered by all those around him.
O LORD, sovereign God! Who is strong like you, O LORD? Your faithfulness surrounds you. 8LORD God of the Heavenly Armies, who is as mighty as you, LORD? Your faithfulness surrounds you.
You rule over the proud sea. When its waves surge, you calm them. 9You rule over the majestic sea; when its waves surge, you calm them.
You crushed the Proud One and killed it; with your strong arm you scattered your enemies. 10You crushed the proud one to death; with your powerful arm you scattered your enemies.
The heavens belong to you, as does the earth. You made the world and all it contains. 11Heaven and the earth belong to you, the world and everything it contains— you established them.
You created the north and the south. Tabor and Hermon rejoice in your name. 12The north and south—you created them; Tabor and Hermon joyously praise your name.
Your arm is powerful, your hand strong, your right hand victorious. 13Your arm is strong; your hand is mighty; indeed, your right hand is victorious.
Equity and justice are the foundation of your throne. Loyal love and faithfulness characterize your rule. 14Righteousness and justice make up the foundation of your throne; gracious love and truth meet before you.
How blessed are the people who worship you! O LORD, they experience your favor. 15How happy are the people who can worship joyfully! LORD, they walk in the light of your presence.
They rejoice in your name all day long, and are vindicated by your justice. 16In your name they rejoice all day long; they exult in your justice.
For you give them splendor and strength. By your favor we are victorious. 17For you are their strength's grandeur; by your favor you exalted our power.
For our shield belongs to the LORD, our king to the Holy One of Israel. 18Indeed, our shield belongs to the LORD, and our king to the Holy One of Israel.
Then you spoke through a vision to your faithful followers and said: "I have energized a warrior; I have raised up a young man from the people. 19You spoke to your faithful ones through a vision: "I will set a helper over a warrior. I will raise up a chosen one from the people.
I have discovered David, my servant. With my holy oil I have anointed him as king. 20I have found my servant David; I have anointed him with my sacred oil,
My hand will support him, and my arm will strengthen him. 21with whom my power will be firmly established; for my arm will strengthen him.
No enemy will be able to exact tribute from him; a violent oppressor will not be able to humiliate him. 22No enemy will deceive him; no wicked person will afflict him.
I will crush his enemies before him; I will strike down those who hate him. 23I will crush his enemies before him and strike those who hate him.
He will experience my faithfulness and loyal love, and by my name he will win victories. 24My faithfulness and gracious love will be with him, and in my name his power will be exalted.
I will place his hand over the sea, his right hand over the rivers. 25I will place his hand over the sea, and his right hand over the rivers.
He will call out to me, 'You are my father, my God, and the protector who delivers me.' 26He will announce to me 'You are my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation.'
I will appoint him to be my firstborn son, the most exalted of the earth's kings. 27"Indeed, I myself made him the firstborn, the highest of the kings of the earth.
I will always extend my loyal love to him, and my covenant with him is secure. 28I will show my gracious love toward him forever, since my covenant is securely established with him.
I will give him an eternal dynasty, and make his throne as enduring as the skies above. 29I will establish his dynasty forever, and his throne as long as heaven endures.
If his sons reject my law and disobey my regulations, 30"But if his sons abandon my laws and do not follow my ordinances,
if they break my rules and do not keep my commandments, 31if they profane my statutes; and do not keep my commands,
I will punish their rebellion by beating them with a club, their sin by inflicting them with bruises. 32then I will punish their disobedience with a rod and their iniquity with lashes.
But I will not remove my loyal love from him, nor be unfaithful to my promise. 33But I will not cut off my gracious love from him, and I will not stop being faithful.
I will not break my covenant or go back on what I promised. 34I will not dishonor my covenant, because I will not change what I have spoken.
Once and for all I have vowed by my own holiness, I will never deceive David. 35I have sworn by my holiness once for all: I will not lie to David.
His dynasty will last forever. His throne will endure before me, like the sun, 36His dynasty will last forever and his throne will be like the sun before me.
it will remain stable, like the moon, his throne will endure like the skies." (Selah) 37It will be established forever like the moon, a faithful witness in the sky." Interlude
But you have spurned and rejected him; you are angry with your chosen king. 38But you have spurned, rejected, and became angry with your anointed one.
You have repudiated your covenant with your servant; you have thrown his crown to the ground. 39You have dishonored the covenant with your servant; you have defiled his crown on the ground.
You have broken down all his walls; you have made his strongholds a heap of ruins. 40You have broken through all his walls; you have laid his fortresses in ruin.
All who pass by have robbed him; he has become an object of disdain to his neighbors. 41All who pass by on their way plunder him; he has become a reproach to his neighbors.
You have allowed his adversaries to be victorious, and all his enemies to rejoice. 42You have exalted the right hand of his adversaries; you have caused all of his enemies to rejoice.
You turn back his sword from the adversary, and have not sustained him in battle. 43Moreover, you have turned back the edge of his sword and did not support him in battle.
You have brought to an end his splendor, and have knocked his throne to the ground. 44You have caused his splendor to cease and cast down his throne to the ground.
You have cut short his youth, and have covered him with shame. (Selah) 45You have caused the days of his youth to be cut short; you have covered him with shame. Interlude
How long, O LORD, will this last? Will you remain hidden forever? Will your anger continue to burn like fire? 46How long, LORD, will you hide yourself? Forever? Will your anger continuously burn like fire?
Take note of my brief lifespan! Why do you make all people so mortal? 47Remember how short my lifetime is! How powerless have you created all human beings!
No man can live on without experiencing death, or deliver his life from the power of Sheol. (Selah) 48What valiant man can live and not see death? Who can deliver himself from the power of Sheol. Interlude
Where are your earlier faithful deeds, O Lord, the ones performed in accordance with your reliable oath to David? 49Where is your gracious love of old, Lord, that in your faithfulness you promised to David?
Take note, O Lord, of the way your servants are taunted, and of how I must bear so many insults from people! 50Remember, Lord, the reproach of your servant! I carry inside me all the insults of many people,
Your enemies, O LORD, hurl insults; they insult your chosen king as they dog his footsteps. 51when your enemies reproached you, LORD, when they reproached the footsteps of your anointed.
The LORD deserves praise forevermore! We agree! We agree! 52Blessed is the LORD forever! Amen and amen!
