Give thanks to the LORD, call on his name; proclaim his deeds among the peoples. | 1O give thanks unto the LORD; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people. |
Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell about all his wondrous works! | 2Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him: talk ye of all his wondrous works. |
Honor his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice. | 3Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD. |
Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his face always. | 4Seek the LORD, and his strength: seek his face evermore. |
Remember the wondrous works he has done, his wonders, and the judgments he has pronounced, | 5Remember his marvellous works that he hath done; his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth; |
you offspring of Abraham his servant, Jacob's descendants--his chosen ones. | 6O ye seed of Abraham his servant, ye children of Jacob his chosen. |
He is the LORD our God; his judgments govern the whole earth. | 7He is the LORD our God: his judgments are in all the earth. |
He remembers his covenant forever, the promise he ordained for a thousand generations-- | 8He hath remembered his covenant for ever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations. |
the covenant he made with Abraham, swore to Isaac, | 9Which covenant he made with Abraham, and his oath unto Isaac; |
and confirmed to Jacob as a decree and to Israel as a permanent covenant: | 10And confirmed the same unto Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant: |
"I will give the land of Canaan to you as your inherited portion." | 11Saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance: |
When they were few in number, very few indeed, and resident aliens in Canaan, | 12When they were but a few men in number; yea, very few, and strangers in it. |
wandering from nation to nation and from one kingdom to another, | 13When they went from one nation to another, from one kingdom to another people; |
he allowed no one to oppress them; he rebuked kings on their behalf: | 14He suffered no man to do them wrong: yea, he reproved kings for their sakes; |
"Do not touch my anointed ones, or harm my prophets." | 15Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm. |
He called down famine against the land and destroyed the entire food supply. | 16Moreover he called for a famine upon the land: he brake the whole staff of bread. |
He had sent a man ahead of them--Joseph, who was sold as a slave. | 17He sent a man before them, even Joseph, who was sold for a servant: |
They hurt his feet with shackles; his neck was put in an iron collar. | 18Whose feet they hurt with fetters: he was laid in iron: |
Until the time his prediction came true, the word of the LORD tested him. | 19Until the time that his word came: the word of the LORD tried him. |
The king sent for him and released him; the ruler of peoples set him free. | 20The king sent and loosed him; even the ruler of the people, and let him go free. |
He made him master of his household, ruler over all his possessions-- | 21He made him lord of his house, and ruler of all his substance: |
binding his officials at will and instructing his elders. | 22To bind his princes at his pleasure; and teach his senators wisdom. |
Then Israel went to Egypt; Jacob lived as an alien in the land of Ham. | 23Israel also came into Egypt; and Jacob sojourned in the land of Ham. |
The LORD made his people very fruitful; he made them more numerous than their foes, | 24And he increased his people greatly; and made them stronger than their enemies. |
whose hearts he turned to hate his people and to deal deceptively with his servants. | 25He turned their heart to hate his people, to deal subtilly with his servants. |
He sent Moses his servant, and Aaron, whom he had chosen. | 26He sent Moses his servant; and Aaron whom he had chosen. |
They performed his miraculous signs among them, and wonders in the land of Ham. | 27They shewed his signs among them, and wonders in the land of Ham. |
He sent darkness, and it became dark--for did they not defy his commands? | 28He sent darkness, and made it dark; and they rebelled not against his word. |
He turned their water into blood and caused their fish to die. | 29He turned their waters into blood, and slew their fish. |
Their land was overrun with frogs, even in their royal chambers. | 30Their land brought forth frogs in abundance, in the chambers of their kings. |
He spoke, and insects came--gnats throughout their country. | 31He spake, and there came divers sorts of flies, and lice in all their coasts. |
He gave them hail for rain, and lightning throughout their land. | 32He gave them hail for rain, and flaming fire in their land. |
He struck their vines and fig trees and shattered the trees of their territory. | 33He smote their vines also and their fig trees; and brake the trees of their coasts. |
He spoke, and locusts came--young locusts without number. | 34He spake, and the locusts came, and caterpillers, and that without number, |
They devoured all the vegetation in their land and consumed the produce of their land. | 35And did eat up all the herbs in their land, and devoured the fruit of their ground. |
He struck all the firstborn in their land, all their first progeny. | 36He smote also all the firstborn in their land, the chief of all their strength. |
Then he brought Israel out with silver and gold, and no one among his tribes stumbled. | 37He brought them forth also with silver and gold: and there was not one feeble person among their tribes. |
Egypt was glad when they left, for the dread of Israel had fallen on them. | 38Egypt was glad when they departed: for the fear of them fell upon them. |
He spread a cloud as a covering and gave a fire to light up the night. | 39He spread a cloud for a covering; and fire to give light in the night. |
They asked, and he brought quail and satisfied them with bread from heaven. | 40The people asked, and he brought quails, and satisfied them with the bread of heaven. |
He opened a rock, and water gushed out; it flowed like a stream in the desert. | 41He opened the rock, and the waters gushed out; they ran in the dry places like a river. |
For he remembered his holy promise to Abraham his servant. | 42For he remembered his holy promise, and Abraham his servant. |
He brought his people out with rejoicing, his chosen ones with shouts of joy. | 43And he brought forth his people with joy, and his chosen with gladness: |
He gave them the lands of the nations, and they inherited what other peoples had worked for. | 44And gave them the lands of the heathen: and they inherited the labour of the people; |
All this happened so that they might keep his statutes and obey his instructions. Hallelujah! | 45That they might observe his statutes, and keep his laws. Praise ye the LORD. |
