You Have Searched Me and Known Me

לַ֭מְנַצֵּחַ (For the one directing). לְדָוִ֣ד (Of David) מִזְמ֑וֹר (a Psalm).

1יְהוָ֥ה (O YHWH), חֲ֝קַרְתַּ֗נִי (You have searched me)

וַתֵּדָֽע׃ (and know me).

2  אַתָּ֣ה (You) יָ֭דַעְתָּ (know) שִׁבְתִּ֣י (my sitting down) וְקוּמִ֑י (and my rising up);

בַּ֥נְתָּה (You discern) לְ֝רֵעִ֗י (my thought) מֵרָחֽוֹק׃ (from afar).

3  אָרְחִ֣י (My wandering) וְרִבְעִ֣י (and my lying down both) זֵרִ֑יתָ (You have fanned)

וְֽכָל־ (and of all) דְּרָכַ֥י (my ways) הִסְכַּֽנְתָּה׃ (and You are aware).

4  כִּ֤י (For) אֵ֣ין (there is not) מִ֭לָּה (a word) בִּלְשׁוֹנִ֑י (on my tongue)—

הֵ֥ן (behold), יְ֝הוָ֗ה (O YHWH), יָדַ֥עְתָּ (You have known) כֻלָּֽהּ׃ (it all).

5  אָח֣וֹר (Behind) וָקֶ֣דֶם (and before) צַרְתָּ֑נִי (You take hold of me)

וַתָּ֖שֶׁת (and You have laid) עָלַ֣י (upon me) כַּפֶּֽכָה׃ (Your hand).

6  פִּלְאִיָּה (Is wonderful) דַ֣עַת (Such knowledge) מִמֶּ֑נִּי (for me)—

נִ֝שְׂגְּבָ֗ה (it is high); לֹא־ (not) א֥וּכַֽל (I am able to atttain) לָֽהּ׃ (it).

7  אָ֭נָ֥ה (Where) אֵלֵ֣ךְ (can I go) מֵרוּחֶ֑ךָ (from Your Spirit)?

וְ֝אָ֗נָה (Or where) מִפָּנֶ֥יךָ (from Your face) אֶבְרָֽח׃ (can I flee)?

8  אִם־ (If) אֶסַּ֣ק (I ascend) שָׁ֭מַיִם (to the heavens), שָׁ֣ם (there) אָ֑תָּה (You are);

וְאַצִּ֖יעָה (and if I make my bed) שְּׁא֣וֹל (in Sheol), הִנֶּֽךָּ׃ (behold, You)!

9  אֶשָּׂ֥א (If I lift up) כַנְפֵי־ (the wings) שָׁ֑חַר (of the morning)

אֶ֝שְׁכְּנָ֗ה (if I settle) בְּאַחֲרִ֥ית (in the furthest part) יָֽם׃ (of the sea),

10  גַּם־ (even) שָׁ֭ם (there) יָדְךָ֣ (Your hand) תַנְחֵ֑נִי (will guide me),

וְֽתֹאחֲזֵ֥נִי (will hold me fast) יְמִינֶֽךָ׃ (Your right hand).

11  וָ֭אֹמַר (And I said), אַךְ־ (Surely) חֹ֣שֶׁךְ (the darkness) יְשׁוּפֵ֑נִי (will cover me)

וְ֝לַ֗יְלָה (and become night) א֣וֹר (the light) בַּעֲדֵֽנִי׃ (around me)”—

12  גַּם־ (for even) חֹשֶׁךְ֮ (the darkness) לֹֽא־ (not) יַחְשִׁ֪יךְ (is dark) מִ֫מֶּ֥ךָ (to You),

וְ֭לַיְלָה (and the night) כַּיּ֣וֹם (like the day) יָאִ֑יר (shines)—

כַּ֝חֲשֵׁיכָ֗ה (as the darkness) כָּאוֹרָֽה׃ (so is the light).

13  כִּֽי־ (For) אַ֭תָּה (You)— קָנִ֣יתָ (have possessed) כִלְיֹתָ֑י (my kidneys);

תְּ֝סֻכֵּ֗נִי (You covered me) בְּבֶ֣טֶן (in the womb) אִמִּֽי׃ (of my mother).

14  אֽוֹדְךָ֗ (I give You praise)

עַ֤ל (upon) כִּ֥י (that) נוֹרָא֗וֹת (fearfully) נִ֫פְלֵ֥יתִי (I have been distinguished).

נִפְלָאִ֥ים (Wonderful are) מַעֲשֶׂ֑יךָ (Your works),

וְ֝נַפְשִׁ֗י (and my soul) יֹדַ֥עַת (knows it) מְאֹֽד׃ (very well).

15  לֹא־ (Not) נִכְחַ֥ד (was hidden) עָצְמִ֗י (my bone) מִ֫מֶּ֥ךָּ (from You)

אֲשֶׁר־ (when) עֻשֵּׂ֥יתִי (I was made) בַסֵּ֑תֶר (in secret),

רֻ֝קַּ֗מְתִּי (woven together)

בְּֽתַחְתִּיּ֥וֹת (in the depths) אָֽרֶץ׃ (of earth).

16  גָּלְמִ֤י׀ (My unformed body) רָ֘א֤וּ (saw) עֵינֶ֗יךָ (Your eyes),

וְעַֽל־ (and in) סִפְרְךָ֮ (Your book) כֻּלָּ֪ם (all of them) יִכָּ֫תֵ֥בוּ (were written)—

יָמִ֥ים (the days) יֻצָּ֑רוּ (fashioned for me),

וְלֹא (and not) אֶחָ֣ד (one) בָּהֶֽם׃ (was yet among them).

17  וְלִ֗י (And to me) מַה־ (how) יָּקְר֣וּ (precious are) רֵעֶ֣יךָ (Your thoughts), אֵ֑ל (O God)!

מֶ֥ה (How) עָ֝צְמוּ (vast is) רָאשֵׁיהֶֽם׃ (their sum)!

18  אֶ֭סְפְּרֵם (If I could count them)—

מֵח֣וֹל (than the sand) יִרְבּ֑וּן (they would number more);

הֱ֝קִיצֹ֗תִי (I awaken),

וְעוֹדִ֥י (and I am still) עִמָּֽךְ׃ (with You).

19  אִם־ (If only) תִּקְטֹ֖ל (You would slay), אֱל֥וֹהַּ׀ (O God), רָשָׁ֑ע (the wicked);

וְאַנְשֵׁ֥י (and the men) דָ֝מִ֗ים (of blood), ס֣וּרוּ (may they turn aside) מֶֽנִּי׃ (from me)!

20  אֲשֶׁ֣ר (Who) יֹ֭אמְרֻךָ (speak against You) לִמְזִמָּ֑ה (for wickedness),

נָשֻׂ֖א (lifted up) לַשָּׁ֣וְא (to vanity) עָרֶֽיךָ׃ (Your enemies are).

21  הֲלֽוֹא־ (Not) מְשַׂנְאֶ֖יךָ (those hating you), יְהוָ֥ה׀ (O YHWH), אֶשְׂנָ֑א (do I hate),

וּ֝בִתְקוֹמְמֶ֗יךָ (and those standing against You) אֶתְקוֹטָֽט׃ (I loathe)?

22  תַּכְלִ֣ית (With perfect) שִׂנְאָ֣ה (hatred) שְׂנֵאתִ֑ים (I have hated them);

לְ֝אוֹיְבִ֗ים (as enemies) הָ֣יוּ (they have become) לִֽי׃ (to me).

23  חָקְרֵ֣נִי (Search me), אֵ֭ל (O God), וְדַ֣ע (and know) לְבָבִ֑י (my heart);

בְּ֝חָנֵ֗נִי (test me) וְדַ֣ע (and know) שַׂרְעַפָּֽי׃ (my thoughts).

24  וּרְאֵ֗ה (And see) אִם־ (if) דֶּֽרֶךְ־ (a way) עֹ֥צֶב (of wickedness) בִּ֑י (is in me),

וּ֝נְחֵ֗נִי (and lead me) בְּדֶ֣רֶךְ (in the way) עוֹלָֽם׃ (everlasting).
