Rescue Me from Evil Men

לַמְנַצֵּ֗חַ (For the one directing). מִזְמ֥וֹר (A Psalm) לְדָוִֽד׃ (of David).

1חַלְּצֵ֣נִי (Rescue me), יְ֭הוָה (O YHWH), מֵאָדָ֣ם (from the man) רָ֑ע (evil);

מֵאִ֖ישׁ (from the man) חֲמָסִ֣ים (of violence) תִּנְצְרֵֽנִי׃ (guard me),

2  אֲשֶׁ֤ר (those who) חָשְׁב֣וּ (devise) רָע֣וֹת (evil) בְּלֵ֑ב (in the heart);

כָּל־ (and all) י֝֗וֹם (the day) יָג֥וּרוּ (they stir up) מִלְחָמֽוֹת׃ (wars).

3  שָֽׁנֲנ֣וּ (They sharpen) לְשׁוֹנָם֮ (their tongues) כְּֽמוֹ־ (like) נָ֫חָ֥שׁ (a snake);

חֲמַ֥ת (the venom) עַכְשׁ֑וּב (of a viper) תַּ֖חַת (is under) שְׂפָתֵ֣ימוֹ (their lips).

סֶֽלָה׃ (Selah)

4  שָׁמְרֵ֤נִי (keep me), יְהוָ֨ה׀ (O YHWH),

מִ֘ידֵ֤י (from the hands) רָשָׁ֗ע (of the wicked);

מֵאִ֣ישׁ (from the man) חֲמָסִ֣ים (of violent) תִּנְצְרֵ֑נִי (guard me),

אֲשֶׁ֥ר (those who) חָ֝שְׁב֗וּ (have devised) לִדְח֥וֹת (to push down) פְּעָמָֽי׃ (my steps).

5  טָֽמְנֽוּ־ (Have hidden) גֵאִ֨ים׀ (the prideful ones) פַּ֡ח (a snare) לִ֗י (for me),

וַחֲבָלִ֗ים (and ropes) פָּ֣רְשׂוּ (they have spread)— רֶ֭שֶׁת (as a net) לְיַד־ (by the side) מַעְגָּ֑ל (of the path);

מֹקְשִׁ֖ים (lures) שָֽׁתוּ־ (they have set) לִ֣י (for me).

סֶֽלָה׃ (Selah)

6  אָמַ֣רְתִּי (I said) לַ֭יהוָה (O YHWH), אֵ֣לִי (my God) אָ֑תָּה (You are).

הַאֲזִ֥ינָה (Give ear to), יְ֝הוָ֗ה (O YHWH), ק֣וֹל (the voice) תַּחֲנוּנָֽי׃ (of my supplications),

7  יְהֹוִ֣ה (YHWH) אֲ֭דֹנָי (my Lord), עֹ֣ז (the strength) יְשׁוּעָתִ֑י (of my salvation),

סַכֹּ֥תָה (You have covered) לְ֝רֹאשִׁ֗י (my head) בְּי֣וֹם (on the day) נָֽשֶׁק׃ (of armor).

8  אַל־ (Do not) תִּתֵּ֣ן (grant), יְ֭הוָה (O YHWH), מַאֲוַיֵּ֣י (the desires) רָשָׁ֑ע (of the wicked);

זְמָמ֥וֹ (his wicked device) אַל־ (do not) תָּ֝פֵ֗ק (promote),

יָר֥וּמוּ (lest they be exalted).

סֶֽלָה׃ (Selah)

9  רֹ֥אשׁ (the poison) מְסִבָּ֑י (of those surrounding me),

עֲמַ֖ל (the trouble) שְׂפָתֵ֣ימוֹ (of their lips) יְכַסּוּמוֹ׃ (let it cover them).

10  יָמִיטוּ (Let fall) עֲלֵיהֶ֗ם (upon them) גֶּֽחָ֫לִ֥ים (burning coals);

בָּאֵ֥שׁ (into the fire) יַפִּלֵ֑ם (let them be cast)—

בְּ֝מַהֲמֹר֗וֹת (into deep pits); בַּֽל־ (never) יָקֽוּמוּ׃ (to rise up again).

11  אִ֥ישׁ (A man), לָשׁוֹן֮ (of tongues), בַּל־ (do not) יִכּ֪וֹן (let him be established) בָּ֫אָ֥רֶץ (in the earth);

אִישׁ־ (a man) חָמָ֥ס (of violence) רָ֑ע (may evil) יְ֝צוּדֶ֗נּוּ (hunt him) לְמַדְחֵפֹֽת׃ (to overflowing).

12  יָדַעְתִּ (I know) כִּֽי־ (that) יַעֲשֶׂ֣ה (upholds) יְ֭הוָה (YHWH) דִּ֣ין (justice) עָנִ֑י (for the poor),

מִ֝שְׁפַּ֗ט (and judgment for) אֶבְיֹנִֽים׃ (the needy).

13  אַ֣ךְ (Indeed) צַ֭דִּיקִים (the righteous) יוֹד֣וּ (will give praise) לִשְׁמֶ֑ךָ (to Your name);

יֵשְׁב֥וּ (will dwell) יְ֝שָׁרִ֗ים (the upright) אֶת־ (with) פָּנֶֽיךָ׃ (Your face).
