The Oil for the Lamps
(Exodus 27:20–21)

1  וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר (And spoke) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֶל־ (to) מֹשֶׁ֥ה (Moses), לֵּאמֹֽר׃ (saying), 2  צַ֞ו (Command) אֶת־ (-) בְּנֵ֣י (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל (of Israel), וְיִקְח֨וּ (that they bring) אֵלֶ֜יךָ (to you) שֶׁ֣מֶן (oil) זַ֥יִת (of olive) זָ֛ךְ (pure) כָּתִ֖ית (pressed) לַמָּא֑וֹר (for the light), לְהַעֲלֹ֥ת (to make to go up) נֵ֖ר (the lamps) תָּמִֽיד׃ (continually).

3  מִחוּץ֩ (Outside) לְפָרֹ֨כֶת (the veil) הָעֵדֻ֜ת (of the Testimony), בְּאֹ֣הֶל (in the Tent) מוֹעֵ֗ד (of Meeting), יַעֲרֹךְ֩ (shall arrange) אֹת֨וֹ (it) אַהֲרֹ֜ן (Aaron) מֵעֶ֧רֶב (from evening) עַד־ (until) בֹּ֛קֶר (morning) לִפְנֵ֥י (before the face of) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) תָּמִ֑יד (continually); חֻקַּ֥ת (it is a statute) עוֹלָ֖ם (everlasting) לְדֹרֹֽתֵיכֶֽם׃ (in your⁺ generations). 4  עַ֚ל (On) הַמְּנֹרָ֣ה (the lampstand) הַטְּהֹרָ֔ה (pure gold) יַעֲרֹ֖ךְ (He shall arrange) אֶת־ (-) הַנֵּר֑וֹת (the lamps) לִפְנֵ֥י (before the face of) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) תָּמִֽיד׃פ (continually).

The Showbread
(Exodus 25:23–30; Exodus 37:10–16)

5  וְלָקַחְתָּ֣ (And you shall take) סֹ֔לֶת (fine flour) וְאָפִיתָ֣ (and bake) אֹתָ֔הּ (with it) שְׁתֵּ֥ים (two) עֶשְׂרֵ֖ה (and ten) חַלּ֑וֹת (cakes); שְׁנֵי֙ (two) עֶשְׂרֹנִ֔ים (tenths of an ephah) יִהְיֶ֖ה (shall be) הַֽחַלָּ֥ה (cake) הָאֶחָֽת׃ (one). 6  וְשַׂמְתָּ֥ (And you shall set) אוֹתָ֛ם (them) שְׁתַּ֥יִם (in two) מַֽעֲרָכ֖וֹת (rows), שֵׁ֣שׁ (six) הַֽמַּעֲרָ֑כֶת (in a row), עַ֛ל (on) הַשֻּׁלְחָ֥ן (the table) הַטָּהֹ֖ר (pure gold) לִפְנֵ֥י (before the face of) יְהוָֽה׃ (YHWH). 7  וְנָתַתָּ֥ (And you shall put) עַל־ (on) הַֽמַּעֲרֶ֖כֶת (each row) לְבֹנָ֣ה (frankincense) זַכָּ֑ה (pure), וְהָיְתָ֤ה (that it may be) לַלֶּ֙חֶם֙ (with the bread) לְאַזְכָּרָ֔ה (for a memorial), אִשֶּׁ֖ה (a fire offering) לַֽיהוָֽה׃ (to YHWH).

8  בְּי֨וֹם (Day) הַשַּׁבָּ֜ת (Sabbath) בְּי֣וֹם (by day) הַשַּׁבָּ֗ת (Sabbath) יַֽעַרְכֶ֛נּוּ (he shall arrange it) לִפְנֵ֥י (before the face of) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) תָּמִ֑יד (continually) מֵאֵ֥ת (on behalf) בְּנֵֽי־ (of the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (of Israel) בְּרִ֥ית (as a covenant) עוֹלָֽם׃ (everlasting). 9  וְהָֽיְתָה֙ (And it shall be) לְאַהֲרֹ֣ן (for Aaron) וּלְבָנָ֔יו (and his sons), וַאֲכָלֻ֖הוּ (and they shall eat it) בְּמָק֣וֹם (in a place) קָדֹ֑שׁ (holy). כִּ֡י (For) קֹדֶשׁ֩ (holy) קָֽדָשִׁ֨ים (of holies) ה֥וּא (it is) ל֛וֹ (to him) מֵאִשֵּׁ֥י (from the fire offerings) יְהוָ֖ה (of YHWH)— חָק־ (a statute) עוֹלָֽם׃ס (everlasting).

Punishment for Blasphemy

10  וַיֵּצֵא֙ (And went out) בֶּן־ (son) אִשָּׁ֣ה (of a woman), יִשְׂרְאֵלִ֔ית (an Israelitess) וְהוּא֙ (and he) בֶּן־ (son) אִ֣ישׁ (of a man) מִצְרִ֔י (Egyptian)) בְּת֖וֹךְ (in the midst) בְּנֵ֣י (of the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (of Israel). וַיִּנָּצוּ֙ (And fought each other) בַּֽמַּחֲנֶ֔ה (in the camp) בֶּ֚ן (this son) הַיִּשְׂרְאֵלִ֔ית (of the Israelitess) וְאִ֖ישׁ (and a man) הַיִּשְׂרְאֵלִֽי׃ (of the Israelites). 11  וַ֠יִּקֹּב (And blasphemed) בֶּן־ (son) הָֽאִשָּׁ֨ה (of the woman), הַיִּשְׂרְאֵלִ֤ית (the Israelitess), אֶת־ (-) הַשֵּׁם֙ (the Name) וַיְקַלֵּ֔ל (and cursed). וַיָּבִ֥יאוּ (And they brought) אֹת֖וֹ (him) אֶל־ (to) מֹשֶׁ֑ה (Moses). וְשֵׁ֥ם (And the name) אִמּ֛וֹ (of His mother) שְׁלֹמִ֥ית (was Shelomith), בַּת־ (daughter) דִּבְרִ֖י (of Dibri), לְמַטֵּה־ (of the tribe) דָֽן׃ (of Dan).

12  וַיַּנִּיחֻ֖הוּ (And they put him) בַּמִּשְׁמָ֑ר (in custody), לִפְרֹ֥שׁ (that it might be shown) לָהֶ֖ם (to them) עַל־ (upon) פִּ֥י (the mouth) יְהוָֽה׃פ (of YHWH).

13  וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר (And spoke) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֶל־ (to) מֹשֶׁ֥ה (Moses), לֵּאמֹֽר׃ (saying), 14  הוֹצֵ֣א (Take) אֶת־ (-) הַֽמְקַלֵּ֗ל (him who has cursed) אֶל־ (to) מִחוּץ֙ (the outside) לַֽמַּחֲנֶ֔ה (of the camp), וְסָמְכ֧וּ (and let lay) כָֽל־ (all) הַשֹּׁמְעִ֛ים (who heard him) אֶת־ (-) יְדֵיהֶ֖ם (their hands) עַל־ (on) רֹאשׁ֑וֹ (his head), וְרָגְמ֥וּ (and let stone) אֹת֖וֹ (him) כָּל־ (all) הָעֵדָֽה׃ (the congregation).

15  וְאֶל־ (And to) בְּנֵ֥י (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (of Israel) תְּדַבֵּ֣ר (you shall speak), לֵאמֹ֑ר (saying), אִ֥ישׁ (Any) אִ֛ישׁ (man) כִּֽי־ (if) יְקַלֵּ֥ל (he curses) אֱלֹהָ֖יו (his God), וְנָשָׂ֥א (and he shall bear) חֶטְאֽוֹ׃ (his sin). 16  וְנֹקֵ֤ב (And whoever blasphemes) שֵׁם־ (the name) יְהוָה֙ (of YHWH) מ֣וֹת (dying) יוּמָ֔ת (must be put to death). רָג֥וֹם (Stoning) יִרְגְּמוּ־ (must stone) ב֖וֹ (him) כָּל־ (all) הָעֵדָ֑ה (the congregation), כַּגֵּר֙ (as the sojourner), כָּֽאֶזְרָ֔ח (as the native); בְּנָקְבוֹ־ (when he blasphemes) שֵׁ֖ם (the name) יוּמָֽת׃ (he shall be put to death).

An Eye for an Eye
(Matthew 5:38–48)

17  וְאִ֕ישׁ (And whoever) כִּ֥י (-) יַכֶּ֖ה (kills) כָּל־ (any) נֶ֣פֶשׁ (-) אָדָ֑ם (man), מ֖וֹת (dying) יוּמָֽת׃ (he must be put to death). 18  וּמַכֵּ֥ה (And he who kills) נֶֽפֶשׁ־ (the life) בְּהֵמָ֖ה (of an animal) יְשַׁלְּמֶ֑נָּה (shall make it good)— נֶ֖פֶשׁ (animal) תַּ֥חַת (for) נָֽפֶשׁ׃ (animal). 19  וְאִ֕ישׁ (And a man) כִּֽי־ (if) יִתֵּ֥ן (causes) מ֖וּם (disfigurement) בַּעֲמִית֑וֹ (of his neighbor), כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר (as) עָשָׂ֔ה (he has done), כֵּ֖ן (so) יֵעָ֥שֶׂה (shall it be done) לּֽוֹ׃ (to him): 20  שֶׁ֚בֶר (Fracture) תַּ֣חַת (for) שֶׁ֔בֶר (fracture), עַ֚יִן (eye) תַּ֣חַת (for) עַ֔יִן (eye), שֵׁ֖ן (tooth) תַּ֣חַת (for) שֵׁ֑ן (tooth). כַּאֲשֶׁ֨ר (As) יִתֵּ֥ן (he has caused) מוּם֙ (disfigurement) בָּֽאָדָ֔ם (in the man), כֵּ֖ן (so) יִנָּ֥תֶן (shall it be done) בּֽוֹ׃ (to him).

21  וּמַכֵּ֥ה (And whoever kills) בְהֵמָ֖ה (an animal) יְשַׁלְּמֶ֑נָּה (shall restore it); וּמַכֵּ֥ה (and kills) אָדָ֖ם (whoever a man), יוּמָֽת׃ (he shall be put to death). 22  מִשְׁפַּ֤ט (Law) אֶחָד֙ (one) יִהְיֶ֣ה (shall have) לָכֶ֔ם (You⁺). כַּגֵּ֥ר (As the sojourner) כָּאֶזְרָ֖ח (as the native) יִהְיֶ֑ה (it shall be), כִּ֛י (for) אֲנִ֥י (I am) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֵיכֶֽם׃ (your⁺ God).

23  וַיְדַבֵּ֣ר (And spoke) מֹשֶׁה֮ (Moses) אֶל־ (to) בְּנֵ֣י (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵל֒ (of Israel), וַיּוֹצִ֣יאוּ (and they took) אֶת־ (-) הַֽמְקַלֵּ֗ל (him who had cursed) אֶל־ (to) מִחוּץ֙ (the outside) לַֽמַּחֲנֶ֔ה (of the camp), וַיִּרְגְּמ֥וּ (and they stoned) אֹת֖וֹ (him) אָ֑בֶן (with stones). וּבְנֵֽי־ (And the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֣ל (of Israel) עָשׂ֔וּ (did) כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֛ר (as) צִוָּ֥ה (had commanded) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) מֹשֶֽׁה׃פ (Moses).
