Sometimes it points to a mystery (Daniel 5:12; Daniel 8:23); then again to the contents of the Law (Deuteronomy 17:11); then again to the idea of judgment (Psalm 17:2) or of a judicial sentence (2 Corinthians 1:9 Luke 23:24), or of judicial advice (Acts 15:19, the American Standard Revised Version "judgment").

3. (n.) A philosophical or theological opinion; a dogma; as, Summary of the Sentences; Book of the Sentences.

In civil and admiralty law, the judgment of a court pronounced in a cause; in criminal and ecclesiastical courts, a judgment passed on a criminal by a court or judge; condemnation pronounced by a judicial tribunal; doom. In common law, the term is exclusively used to denote the judgment in criminal cases.
