1“Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins, who took their lamps, and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2And five of them were prudent, and five were foolish. 3Those who were foolish took their lamps, but took no oil with them; 4While the wise took oil in jars along with their lamps. 5While the bridegroom delayed, they all became drowsy and slept. 6Then at midnight they were aroused by a shout: ‘Here comes the bridegroom; go out to meet him’. 7Then those ten virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. 8And then the foolish said to the prudent, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out’. 9But the prudent answered, ‘No. there may not be not enough for both us and you; but go where they sell oil, and buy some for yourselves’. 10And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and those that were ready went in with him to the marriage banquet; and the door was shut. 11Then later the other virgins came, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open the door for us.’ 12But he answered and said, ‘Truly I tell you, I do not know you.’ 13Therefore, be vigilant; for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of man comes.” 14“For the kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling to a far country, who called his servants, and entrusted to them his wealth. 15And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to a third, one talent; to each man according to his ability; and then he left on his journey. 16Then the one who had received the five talents went and invested them and earned another five talents. 17And likewise the one who had received two also gained another two. 18But the one who had received only one went, dug a hole, and hid his lord's money in the earth. 19After a long time the master of those servants returned, and settled accounts with them. 20And he who had received five talents came and brought another five talents, saying, ‘Lord, you entrusted to me five talents; behold, I have gained five more talents besides’. 21His master said to him, ‘Well done, you good and faithful servant; you have been faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master’. 22He also that had received two talents came and said, ‘Lord, you delivered to me two talents; look, I have gained two other talents beside them’. 23His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master’. 24Then he that had received just one talent came and said, ‘Lord, I knew you that you are a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not spread; 25And I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the earth; look, here is what is yours.’ 26His master answered, ‘You lazy and slothful servant, you knew that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not spread; 27Therefore, you should have invested my money so that upon my return I should have received my own plus interest. 28So take the talent from him, and give it to the one who now has ten talents. 29For to everyone that has more shall be given, and he shall have abundance; but from those that have not, even that which he has shall be taken away. 30And throw that unprofitable servant into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’” 31“When the Son of man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He shall sit upon the throne of His glory; 32And all nations shall be gathered before Him; and He shall separate the people - one from another, as a shepherd separates his sheep from the goats. 33And He shall put the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. 34Then the King shall say to them on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation (creation) of the world; 35For I was hungry, and you gave Me food; I was thirsty, and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger, and you took Me in; 36Naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you cared for Me; I was in prison, and you came to visit Me.’ 37Then shall the righteous answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, and fed You? or thirsty, and gave You drink? 38When did we see You a stranger, and took You in? or naked, and clothed you? 39Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and came to You?’ 40And the King shall reply, ‘Truly I say tell you, whatever you have done for one of the least of these, My brothers, you have done for Me.’ 41Then shall He also say to those on His left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you who are cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels; 42For I was hungry, and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty, and you gave Me nothing to drink; 43I was a stranger, and you did not take Me in; naked, and you did not clothe Me; sick, and in prison, and you did not visit Me.’ 44Then shall they also answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister to (help) You?’ 45Then He shall answer, ‘Truly I say tell you, “Whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do it for Me.”’ 46And these shall go away into everlasting (eternal) punishment; but the righteous into eternal life.” Reader-Friendly Bible: Purple Letter Edition © 2024 by Jim Musser.
