1	And having been morning, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus, to kill him:	When morning came, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death.	Early in the morning, all the chief priests and the elders of the people made their plans how to have Jesus executed.
2	And having bound they brought him away, and they delivered him to Pontius Pilate, the leader.	And they bound him and led him away and delivered him over to Pilate the governor.	So they bound him, led him away and handed him over to Pilate the governor.
3	Then Judas, he delivering him up, having seen that he was condemned, having felt regret, returned the thirty silver coins to the chief priests, and the more ancient,	Then when Judas, his betrayer, saw that Jesus was condemned, he changed his mind and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders,	When Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was seized with remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders.
4	Saying, I have sinned, having delivered up guiltless blood. And they said, What to us? thou shalt see.	saying, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” They said, “What is that to us? See to it yourself.”	“I have sinned,” he said, “for I have betrayed innocent blood.” “What is that to us?” they replied. “That’s your responsibility.”
5	And having cast down the silver coins in the temple, he withdrew and having gone away, he strangled him self.	And throwing down the pieces of silver into the temple, he departed, and he went and hanged himself.	So Judas threw the money into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself.
6	And the chief priests, having taken the silver coins, said, It is not lawful to cast them for an offering, since it is the price of blood.	But the chief priests, taking the pieces of silver, said, “It is not lawful to put them into the treasury, since it is blood money.”	The chief priests picked up the coins and said, “It is against the law to put this into the treasury, since it is blood money.”
7	And having taken counsel, they purchased with them the potter's field, for the interment to strangers.	So they took counsel and bought with them the potter’s field as a burial place for strangers.	So they decided to use the money to buy the potter’s field as a burial place for foreigners.
8	Wherefore, that field was called, The field of blood, even to this day.	Therefore that field has been called the Field of Blood to this day.	That is why it has been called the Field of Blood to this day.
9	Then was completed that having been spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty silver coins, the price of him prized, whom they from the sons of Israel prized;	Then was fulfilled what had been spoken by the prophet Jeremiah, saying, “And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him on whom a price had been set by some of the sons of Israel,	Then what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled: “They took the thirty pieces of silver, the price set on him by the people of Israel,
10	And they gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord commanded me.	and they gave them for the potter’s field, as the Lord directed me.”	and they used them to buy the potter’s field, as the Lord commanded me.”
11	And Jesus stood before the leader: and the leader asked him, saying, Art thou King of the Jews? Jesus said to him, Thou sayest.	Now Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” Jesus said, “You have said so.”	Meanwhile Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?” “You have said so,” Jesus replied.
12	And in the accusing him by the chief priests and the more ancient, he answered nothing.	But when he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he gave no answer.	When he was accused by the chief priests and the elders, he gave no answer.
13	Then says Pilate to him, Hearest thou not what they witness against thee?	Then Pilate said to him, “Do you not hear how many things they testify against you?”	Then Pilate asked him, “Don’t you hear the testimony they are bringing against you?”
14	And he answered him not to one word: so that the leader wondered greatly.	But he gave him no answer, not even to a single charge, so that the governor was greatly amazed.	But Jesus made no reply, not even to a single charge—to the great amazement of the governor.
15	And in the festival the leader was accustomed to loose one imprisoned to the crowd, which they desired.	Now at the feast the governor was accustomed to release for the crowd any one prisoner whom they wanted.	Now it was the governor’s custom at the festival to release a prisoner chosen by the crowd.
16	And they had then an imprisoned distinguished, called Barabbas.	And they had then a notorious prisoner called Barabbas.	At that time they had a well-known prisoner whose name was Jesus Barabbas.
17	Therefore they assembled together, Pilate laid to them, Whom will ye I shall loose to you? Barabbas, or Jesus, called Christ?	So when they had gathered, Pilate said to them, “Whom do you want me to release for you: Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?”	So when the crowd had gathered, Pilate asked them, “Which one do you want me to release to you: Jesus Barabbas, or Jesus who is called the Messiah?”
18	For he knew that through envy, they had delivered him, up.	For he knew that it was out of envy that they had delivered him up.	For he knew it was out of self-interest that they had handed Jesus over to him.
19	And he sitting upon the judgment seat, his wife sent to him, saying, Nothing to thee and that just one: for I have suffered this day many things in a dream, on his account.	Besides, while he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent word to him, “Have nothing to do with that righteous man, for I have suffered much because of him today in a dream.”	While Pilate was sitting on the judge’s seat, his wife sent him this message: “Don’t have anything to do with that innocent man, for I have suffered a great deal today in a dream because of him.”
20	And the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowds that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.	Now the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to ask for Barabbas and destroy Jesus.	But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to ask for Barabbas and to have Jesus executed.
21	And the leader having answered, said to them, Which of the two will ye I shall loose to you? And they said, Barabbas.	The governor again said to them, “Which of the two do you want me to release for you?” And they said, “Barabbas.”	“Which of the two do you want me to release to you?” asked the governor. “Barabbas,” they answered.
22	Pilate says to them, What then shall I do with Jesus, called Christ? They all say to him, Let him be crucified.	Pilate said to them, “Then what shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?” They all said, “Let him be crucified!”	“What shall I do, then, with Jesus who is called the Messiah?” Pilate asked. They all answered, “Crucify him!”
23	And the leader said, For what evil hath he done? and they cried excessively, saying, Let him be crucified.	And he said, “Why? What evil has he done?” But they shouted all the more, “Let him be crucified!”	“Why? What crime has he committed?” asked Pilate. But they shouted all the louder, “Crucify him!”
24	And Pilate, seeing that it profits nothing, but there is rather an uproar, having taken water, he washed his hands before the crowd, saying, I am guiltless of the blood of this just one: ye shall see yourselves.	So when Pilate saw that he was gaining nothing, but rather that a riot was beginning, he took water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of this man’s blood; see to it yourselves.”	When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that instead an uproar was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd. “I am innocent of this man’s blood,” he said. “It is your responsibility!”
25	And all the people having answered, said, His blood upon us, and upon our children.	And all the people answered, “His blood be on us and on our children!”	All the people answered, “His blood is on us and on our children!”
26	Then he loosed to them Barabbas: and having scourged Jesus, delivered him up, that, he might be crucified.	Then he released for them Barabbas, and having scourged Jesus, delivered him to be crucified.	Then he released Barabbas to them. But he had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified.
27	Then the soldiers of the leader, having taken Jesus to the Pretorium, gathered together the whole band against him.	Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the governor’s headquarters, and they gathered the whole battalion before him.	Then the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole company of soldiers around him.
28	And having unclothed him, they put round him a scarlet, loose, warm cloak.	And they stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him,	They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him,

31	And when they mocked him, they put off from him the loose, warm cloak, and put on him his garments, and brought him away to crucify.	And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the robe and put his own clothes on him and led him away to crucify him.	After they had mocked him, they took off the robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him away to crucify him.
32	And coming, they found a man, a Cyrenian, Simon by name; they compelled him that he should lift up his cross.	As they went out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name. They compelled this man to carry his cross.	As they were going out, they met a man from Cyrene, named Simon, and they forced him to carry the cross.
33	And having come, to the place called Golgotha, which is called the place of the skull,	And when they came to a place called Golgotha (which means Place of a Skull),	They came to a place called Golgotha (which means “the place of the skull”).
34	They gave him vinegar to drink. (mingled with bile: and having tasted, he would not drink.	they offered him wine to drink, mixed with gall, but when he tasted it, he would not drink it.	There they offered Jesus wine to drink, mixed with gall; but after tasting it, he refused to drink it.
35	And having crucified him, they divided his garments among them, casting lot: that that spoken by the prophet might be filled up: They divided among them my garments, and upon my clothing they cast lot.	And when they had crucified him, they divided his garments among them by casting lots.	When they had crucified him, they divided up his clothes by casting lots.
36	And sitting down, they observed him there.	Then they sat down and kept watch over him there.	And sitting down, they kept watch over him there.
37	And they set above his head his accusation, having been written: THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS. 39	And they coming near, blasphemed him, shaking their heads,	And those who passed by derided him, wagging their heads	Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads
40	And saying, He loosing the temple, and building in three days, save thyself: if thou art the Son of God, come down from the cross.	and saying, “You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross.”	and saying, “You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself! Come down from the cross, if you are the Son of God!”
41	And likewise also the chief priests mocking, with the scribes and elders, said,	So also the chief priests, with the scribes and elders, mocked him, saying,	In the same way the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders mocked him.
42	Others he saved; himself he cannot save. If he is King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him:	“He saved others; he cannot save himself. He is the King of Israel; let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him.	“He saved others,” they said, “but he can’t save himself! He’s the king of Israel! Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him.
43	He trusted upon God; let him now deliver him, if he desires him: for he said, That I am the Son of God.	He trusts in God; let God deliver him now, if he desires him. For he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’”	He trusts in God. Let God rescue him now if he wants him, for he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’”
44	And the robbers crucified with him, reproached him with the same.	And the robbers who were crucified with him also reviled him in the same way.	In the same way the rebels who were crucified with him also heaped insults on him.
45	And from the sixth hour, darkness was upon all the earth, even to the ninth hour.	Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour.	From noon until three in the afternoon darkness came over all the land.
46	And about the ninth hour, Jesus cried out with a great voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani I this is, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?	And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”	About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).
47	And some of them standing there, having heard, said, That he calls Elias.	And some of the bystanders, hearing it, said, “This man is calling Elijah.”	When some of those standing there heard this, they said, “He’s calling Elijah.”
48	And quickly one of them, having run, and taken a sponge, and filled with vinegar, and put upon a reed, gave him to drink.	And one of them at once ran and took a sponge, filled it with sour wine, and put it on a reed and gave it to him to drink.	Immediately one of them ran and got a sponge. He filled it with wine vinegar, put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink.
49	And the rest said, Let go: we should see if Elias comes, going to save him.	But the others said, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to save him.”	The rest said, “Now leave him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes to save him.”
50	And Jesus, again having cried with a great voice, let go the spirit.	And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit.	And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.
51	And, behold, the covering of the temple was cleft in two, from above to below; and the earth was shaken; and the rocks were cleft:	And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And the earth shook, and the rocks were split.	At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split
52	And the tombs were opened: and many bodies of the holy ones, having been set to sleep, were raised,	The tombs also were opened. And many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised,	and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life.
53	And having come forth from the tombs, after his arising, went into the holy city, and were exhibited to many.	and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many. 54	And the centurion, and they with him, observing Jesus, having seen the shaking, and the things having been, were greatly afraid, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.	When the centurion and those who were with him, keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place, they were filled with awe and said, “Truly this was the Son of God!”	When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, “Surely he was the Son of God!”
55	And many women were there, beholding from far off, who followed Jesus out of Galilee, serving him:	There were also many women there, looking on from a distance, who had followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering to him,	Many women were there, watching from a distance. They had followed Jesus from Galilee to care for his needs.
56	Among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee's sons.	among whom were Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and Joseph and the mother of the sons of Zebedee. Therefore order the tomb to be made secure until the third day, lest his disciples go and steal him away and tell the people, ‘He has risen from the dead,’ and the last fraud will be worse than the first.”	So give the order for the tomb to be made secure until the third day. Otherwise, his disciples may come and steal the body and tell the people that he has been raised from the dead. This last deception will be worse than the first.”
65	And Pilate said to them, Ye have a watch: retire, render secure as ye know.	Pilate said to them, “You have a guard of soldiers. Go, make it as secure as you can.”	“Take a guard,” Pilate answered. “Go, make the tomb as secure as you know how.”
66	And they, having gone, rendered the tomb secure, having sealed the stone with the watch.	So they went and made the tomb secure by sealing the stone and setting a guard.	So they went and made the tomb secure by putting a seal on the stone and posting the guard.
