1	When daybreak came, all the chief priests and the elders of the people plotted against Jesus to put him to death. 5	So he threw the silver into the temple and departed. Then he went and hanged himself.	And throwing down the pieces of silver into the temple, he departed, and he went and hanged himself.	So Judas threw the money into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself.
6	The chief priests took the silver and said, “It’s not permitted to put it into the temple treasury, since it is blood money.”	But the chief priests, taking the pieces of silver, said, “It is not lawful to put them into the treasury, since it is blood money.”	The chief priests picked up the coins and said, “It is against the law to put this into the treasury, since it is blood money.”
7	They conferred together and bought the potter’s field with it as a burial place for foreigners.	So they took counsel and bought with them the potter’s field as a burial place for strangers.	So they decided to use the money to buy the potter’s field as a burial place for foreigners.
8	Therefore that field has been called “Field of Blood” to this day.	Therefore that field has been called the Field of Blood to this day.	That is why it has been called the Field of Blood to this day.

15	At the festival the governor’s custom was to release to the crowd a prisoner they wanted.	Now at the feast the governor was accustomed to release for the crowd any one prisoner whom they wanted.	Now it was the governor’s custom at the festival to release a prisoner chosen by the crowd.
16	At that time they had a notorious prisoner called Barabbas.	And they had then a notorious prisoner called Barabbas.	At that time they had a well-known prisoner whose name was Jesus Barabbas.
17	So when they had gathered together, Pilate said to them, “Who is it you want me to release for you—Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ? ”	So when they had gathered, Pilate said to them, “Whom do you want me to release for you: Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?”	So when the crowd had gathered, Pilate asked them, “Which one do you want me to release to you: Jesus Barabbas, or Jesus who is called the Messiah?”

19	While he was sitting on the judge’s bench, his wife sent word to him, “Have nothing to do with that righteous man, for today I’ve suffered terribly in a dream because of him.”	Besides, while he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent word to him, “Have nothing to do with that righteous man, for I have suffered much because of him today in a dream.”	While Pilate was sitting on the judge’s seat, his wife sent him this message: “Don’t have anything to do with that innocent man, for I have suffered a great deal today in a dream because of him.”
20	The chief priests and the elders, however, persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas and to execute Jesus.	Now the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to ask for Barabbas and destroy Jesus.	But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to ask for Barabbas and to have Jesus executed.
21	The governor asked them, “Which of the two do you want me to release for you? ” “Barabbas! ” they answered.	The governor again said to them, “Which of the two do you want me to release for you?” And they said, “Barabbas.”	“Which of the two do you want me to release to you?” asked the governor. “Barabbas,” they answered.
22	Pilate asked them, “What should I do then with Jesus, who is called Christ? ” They all answered, “Crucify him! ”	Pilate said to them, “Then what shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?” They all said, “Let him be crucified!”	“What shall I do, then, with Jesus who is called the Messiah?” Pilate asked. They all answered, “Crucify him!”
23	Then he said, “Why? What has he done wrong? ” But they kept shouting all the more, “Crucify him! ”	And he said, “Why? What evil has he done?” But they shouted all the more, “Let him be crucified!”	“Why? What crime has he committed?” asked Pilate. But they shouted all the louder, “Crucify him!”
24	When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that a riot was starting instead, he took some water, washed his hands in front of the crowd, and said, “I am innocent of this man’s blood. See to it yourselves! ”	So when Pilate saw that he was gaining nothing, but rather that a riot was beginning, he took water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of this man’s blood; see to it yourselves.”	When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that instead an uproar was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd. “I am innocent of this man’s blood,” he said. “It is your responsibility!”
25	All the people answered, “His blood be on us and on our children! ”	And all the people answered, “His blood be on us and on our children!”	All the people answered, “His blood is on us and on our children!”
26	Then he released Barabbas to them and, after having Jesus flogged, handed him over to be crucified.	Then he released for them Barabbas, and having scourged Jesus, delivered him to be crucified.	Then he released Barabbas to them. But he had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified.
27	Then the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into the governor’s residence and gathered the whole company around him. 44	In the same way even the criminals who were crucified with him taunted him.	And the robbers who were crucified with him also reviled him in the same way.	In the same way the rebels who were crucified with him also heaped insults on him.
45	From noon until three in the afternoon, darkness came over the whole land.	Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour.	From noon until three in the afternoon darkness came over all the land.
46	About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out with a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani? ” that is, “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? ”	And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”	About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).
47	When some of those standing there heard this, they said, “He’s calling for Elijah.”	And some of the bystanders, hearing it, said, “This man is calling Elijah.”	When some of those standing there heard this, they said, “He’s calling Elijah.”
48	Immediately one of them ran and got a sponge, filled it with sour wine, put it on a stick, and offered him a drink.	And one of them at once ran and took a sponge, filled it with sour wine, and put it on a reed and gave it to him to drink.	Immediately one of them ran and got a sponge. 65	“Take guards,” Pilate told them. “Go and make it as secure as you know how.”	Pilate said to them, “You have a guard of soldiers. Go, make it as secure as you can.”	“Take a guard,” Pilate answered. “Go, make the tomb as secure as you know how.”
