3 The foolish ones, when taking their lamps, brought no oil with them, For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them.
4 but the wise brought flasks of oil with their lamps. but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps.
5 Since the bridegroom was long delayed, they all became drowsy and fell asleep. As the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and slept. The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.
6 At midnight, there was a cry, ‘Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’ But at midnight there was a cry, ‘Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’ “At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’
7 Then all those virgins got up and trimmed their lamps. Then all those virgins rose and trimmed their lamps. “Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps.
8 The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’
9 But the wise ones replied, ‘No, for there may not be enough for us and you. Go instead to the merchants and buy some for yourselves.’ But the wise answered, saying, ‘Since there will not be enough for us and for you, go rather to the dealers and buy for yourselves.’ “’No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’
10 While they went off to buy it, the bridegroom came and those who were ready went into the wedding feast with him. Then the door was locked. And while they were going to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut. “But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.
11 Afterwards the other virgins came and said, ‘Lord, Lord, open the door for us!’ Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open to us.’ “Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’
12 But he said in reply, ‘Amen, I say to you, I do not know you.’ But he answered, ‘Truly, I say to you, I do not know you.’ “But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’
13 Therefore, stay awake, for you know neither the day nor the hour. Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour. “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.
14 “It will be as when a man who was going on a journey called in his servants and entrusted his possessions to them. “For it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted to them his property. “Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them.
15 To one he gave five talents; to another, two; to a third, one—to each according to his ability. Then he went away. Immediately To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went away. To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey.

17 Likewise, the one who received two made another two. So also he who had the two talents made two talents more. So also, the one with two bags of gold gained two more.
18 But the man who received one went off and dug a hole in the ground and buried his master’s money. But he who had received the one talent went and dug in the ground and hid his master’s money. But the man who had received one bag went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money.

20 The one who had received five talents came forward bringing the additional five. He said, ‘Master, you gave me five talents. See, I have gained five more.’
21 His master said to him, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. Since you were faithful in small matters, I will give you great responsibilities. Come, share your master’s joy.’ His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’
22 [Then] the one who had received two talents also came forward and said, ‘Master, you gave me two talents. See, I have made two more.’ And he also who had the two talents came forward, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me two talents; here, I have made two talents more.’ “The man with two bags of gold also came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with two bags of gold; see, I have gained two more.’

24 Then the one who had received the one talent came forward and said, ‘Master, I knew you were a demanding person, harvesting where you did not plant and gathering where you did not scatter; He also who had received the one talent came forward, saying, ‘Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you scattered no seed, “Then the man who had received one bag of gold came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed.
25 so out of fear I went off and buried your talent in the ground. Here it is back.’ so I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the ground. Here, you have what is yours.’ So I was afraid and went out and hid your gold in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’
26 His master said to him in reply, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I did not plant and gather where I did not scatter? But his master answered him, ‘You wicked and slothful servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sown and gather where I scattered no seed? “His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed?
27 Should you not then have put my money in the bank so that I could have got it back with interest on my return? Then you ought to have invested my money with the bankers, and at my coming I should have received what was my own with interest. Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.
28 Now then! Take the talent from him and give it to the one with ten. So take the talent from him and give it to him who has the ten talents. “’So take the bag of gold from him and give it to the one who has ten bags.
29 For to everyone who has, more will be given and he will grow rich; but from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away. For to everyone who has will more be given, and he will have an abundance. But from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away. For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.
30 And throw this useless servant into the darkness outside, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.’ And cast the worthless servant into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

37 Then the righteous will answer him and say, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? 44 Then they will answer and say, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or ill or in prison, and not minister to your needs?’ Then they also will answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?’ “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’
45 He will answer them, ‘Amen, I say to you, what you did not do for one of these least ones, you did not do for me.’ Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’
46 And these will go off to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.” And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”
