וַ֭יַּעַן
בִּלְדַּ֥ד
הַשֻּׁחִ֗י
וַיֹּאמַֽר׃
Then Bildad
the Shuhite
replied:
Then answered
Bildad
the Shuhite,
and said,

עַד־
אָ֤נָה ׀
תְּשִׂימ֣וּן
קִנְצֵ֣י
לְמִלִּ֑ין
תָּ֝בִ֗ינוּ
וְאַחַ֥ר
נְדַבֵּֽר׃
“How long
until
you end
these speeches?
Show some sense,
and then
we can talk.
How long
[will it be ere] ye make
an end
of words?
mark,
and afterwards
we will speak.
3
מַ֭דּוּעַ
נֶחְשַׁ֣בְנוּ
כַבְּהֵמָ֑ה
נִ֝טְמִ֗ינוּ
בְּעֵינֵיכֶֽם׃
Why
are we regarded
as cattle,
as stupid
in your sight?
Wherefore are we counted
as beasts,
[and] reputed vile
in your sight?
4
טֹֽרֵ֥ף
נַפְשׁ֗וֹ
בְּאַ֫פּ֥וֹ
הַ֭לְמַעַנְךָ
תֵּעָ֣זַב
אָ֑רֶץ
וְיֶעְתַּק־
צ֝֗וּר
מִמְּקֹמֽוֹ׃
You who tear
yourself
in anger—
should the earth
be forsaken
on your account,
or the rocks
be moved
from their place?
He teareth
himself
in his anger:
shall the earth
be forsaken
for thee? and shall the rock
be removed
out of his place?
5
גַּ֤ם
א֣וֹר
רְשָׁעִ֣ים
יִדְעָ֑ךְ
וְלֹֽא־
יִ֝גַּ֗הּ
שְׁבִ֣יב
אִשּֽׁוֹ׃
Indeed,
the lamp
of the wicked
is extinguished;
the flame
of his fire
does not
glow.
Yea, the light
of the wicked
shall be put out,
and the spark
of his fire
shall not shine.
6
א֭וֹר
חָשַׁ֣ךְ
בְּאָהֳל֑וֹ
וְ֝נֵר֗וֹ
עָלָ֥יו
יִדְעָֽךְ׃
The light
in his tent
grows dark,
and the lamp
beside him
goes out.
The light
shall be dark
in his tabernacle,
and his candle
shall be put out
with him.
7
יֵֽ֭צְרוּ
צַעֲדֵ֣י
אוֹנ֑וֹ
וְֽתַשְׁלִיכֵ֥הוּ
עֲצָתֽוֹ׃
His vigorous
stride
is shortened,
and his own schemes
trip him up.
The steps
of his strength
shall be straitened,
and his own counsel
shall cast him down.
8
כִּֽי־
שֻׁלַּ֣ח
בְּרֶ֣שֶׁת
בְּרַגְלָ֑יו
וְעַל־
שְׂ֝בָכָ֗ה
יִתְהַלָּֽךְ׃
For
his own feet
lead him
into a net,
and he wanders
into
its mesh.
For he is cast
into a net
by his own feet,
and he walketh
upon a snare.
9
יֹאחֵ֣ז
בְּעָקֵ֣ב
פָּ֑ח
יַחֲזֵ֖ק
עָלָ֣יו
צַמִּֽים׃
A trap
seizes
his heel;
a snare
grips him.
The gin
shall take
[him] by the heel,
[and] the robber
shall prevail
against him.
10
טָמ֣וּן
בָּאָ֣רֶץ
חַבְל֑וֹ
וּ֝מַלְכֻּדְתּ֗וֹ
עֲלֵ֣י
נָתִֽיב׃
A noose
is hidden
in the ground,
and a trap
lies in
his path.
The snare
[is] laid
for him in the ground,
and a trap
for him in the way.
11
סָ֭בִיב
בִּֽעֲתֻ֣הוּ
בַלָּה֑וֹת
וֶהֱפִיצֻ֥הוּ
לְרַגְלָֽיו׃
Terrors
frighten him
on every side
and harass
his every step.
Terrors
shall make him afraid
on every side,
and shall drive
him to his feet.
12
יְהִי־
רָעֵ֥ב
אֹנ֑וֹ
וְ֝אֵ֗יד
נָכ֥וֹן
לְצַלְעֽוֹ׃
His strength
is
depleted,
and calamity
is ready
at his side.
His strength
shall be hungerbitten,
and destruction
[shall be] ready
at his side.
13
יֹ֭אכַל
בַּדֵּ֣י
עוֹר֑וֹ
יֹאכַ֥ל
בַּ֝דָּ֗יו
בְּכ֣וֹר
מָֽוֶת׃
It devours
patches
of his skin;
the firstborn
of death
devours
his limbs.
It shall devour
the strength
of his skin:
[even] the firstborn
of death
shall devour
his strength.
14
יִנָּתֵ֣ק
מֵ֭אָהֳלוֹ
מִבְטַח֑וֹ
וְ֝תַצְעִדֵ֗הוּ
לְמֶ֣לֶךְ
בַּלָּהֽוֹת׃
He is torn
from the shelter
of his tent
and is marched off
to the king
of terrors.
His confidence
shall be rooted out
of his tabernacle,
and it shall bring
him to the king
of terrors.
15
תִּשְׁכּ֣וֹן
בְּ֭אָהֳלוֹ
מִבְּלִי־
ל֑וֹ
יְזֹרֶ֖ה
עַל־
נָוֵ֣הוּ
גָפְרִֽית׃
Fire
resides
in his tent;
burning sulfur
rains down
on
his dwelling.
It shall dwell
in his tabernacle,
because [it is] none
of his: brimstone
shall be scattered
upon his habitation.
16
מִ֭תַּחַת
שָֽׁרָשָׁ֣יו
יִבָ֑שׁוּ
וּ֝מִמַּ֗עַל
יִמַּ֥ל
קְצִירֽוֹ׃
The roots
beneath him
dry up,
and the branches
above him
wither away.
His roots
shall be dried up
beneath, and above
shall his branch
be cut off.

זִֽכְרוֹ־
אָ֭בַד

וְלֹא־

עַל־
פְּנֵי־

The memory of him
perishes
from
the earth,
and he has
no
name
in
the land.
His remembrance
shall perish
from the earth,
and he shall have no name
in the street.
18
יֶ֭הְדְּפֻהוּ
מֵא֣וֹר
אֶל־
חֹ֑שֶׁךְ
וּֽמִתֵּבֵ֥ל
יְנִדֻּֽהוּ׃
He is driven
from light
into
darkness
and is chased
from the inhabited world.
He shall be driven
from light
into darkness,
and chased
out of the world.

שָׂ֝רִ֗יד
בִּמְגוּרָֽיו׃
He has no
offspring
or posterity
among his people,
no
survivor
where he once lived.
He shall neither have son
nor nephew
among his people,
nor any remaining
in his dwellings.

שָֽׂעַר׃
Those in the west
are appalled
at
his fate,
while those in the east
tremble in horror.
They that come after
[him] shall be astonied
at his day,
as they that went before
were affrighted.

Surely
such
is the dwelling
of the wicked
and
the place
of one who does not
know
God.”
Surely such [are] the dwellings
of the wicked,
and this [is] the place
[of him that] knoweth
not God.
