Maschil of Ethan the Ezrahite. I will sing of the mercies of the LORD for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations.1I will sing about the LORD's faithful love forever; I will proclaim your faithfulness to all generations with my mouth.
For I have said, Mercy shall be built up for ever: thy faithfulness shalt thou establish in the very heavens.2For I will declare, "Faithful love is built up forever; you establish your faithfulness in the heavens."
I have made a covenant with my chosen, I have sworn unto David my servant,3The LORD said, "I have made a covenant with my chosen one; I have sworn an oath to David my servant:
Thy seed will I establish for ever, and build up thy throne to all generations. Selah.4'I will establish your offspring forever and build up your throne for all generations.'" Selah
And the heavens shall praise thy wonders, O LORD: thy faithfulness also in the congregation of the saints.5LORD, the heavens praise your wonders--your faithfulness also--in the assembly of the holy ones.
For who in the heaven can be compared unto the LORD? who among the sons of the mighty can be likened unto the LORD?6For who in the skies can compare with the LORD? Who among the heavenly beings is like the LORD?
God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be had in reverence of all them that are about him.7God is greatly feared in the council of the holy ones, more awe-inspiring than all who surround him.
O LORD God of hosts, who is a strong LORD like unto thee? or to thy faithfulness round about thee?8LORD God of Armies, who is strong like you, LORD? Your faithfulness surrounds you.
Thou rulest the raging of the sea: when the waves thereof arise, thou stillest them.9You rule the raging sea; when its waves surge, you still them.
Thou hast broken Rahab in pieces, as one that is slain; thou hast scattered thine enemies with thy strong arm.10You crushed Rahab like one who is slain; you scattered your enemies with your powerful arm.
The heavens are thine, the earth also is thine: as for the world and the fulness thereof, thou hast founded them.11The heavens are yours; the earth also is yours. The world and everything in it--you founded them.
The north and the south thou hast created them: Tabor and Hermon shall rejoice in thy name.12North and south--you created them. Tabor and Hermon shout for joy at your name.
Thou hast a mighty arm: strong is thy hand, and high is thy right hand.13You have a mighty arm; your hand is powerful; your right hand is lifted high.
Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy face.14Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; faithful love and truth go before you.
Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O LORD, in the light of thy countenance.15Happy are the people who know the joyful shout; LORD, they walk in the light from your face.
In thy name shall they rejoice all the day: and in thy righteousness shall they be exalted.16They rejoice in your name all day long, and they are exalted by your righteousness.
For thou art the glory of their strength: and in thy favour our horn shall be exalted.17For you are their magnificent strength; by your favor our horn is exalted.
For the LORD is our defence; and the Holy One of Israel is our king.18Surely our shield belongs to the LORD, our king to the Holy One of Israel.
Then thou spakest in vision to thy holy one, and saidst, I have laid help upon one that is mighty; I have exalted one chosen out of the people.19You once spoke in a vision to your faithful ones and said: "I have granted help to a warrior; I have exalted one chosen from the people.
I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him:20I have found David my servant; I have anointed him with my sacred oil.
With whom my hand shall be established: mine arm also shall strengthen him.21My hand will always be with him, and my arm will strengthen him.
The enemy shall not exact upon him; nor the son of wickedness afflict him.22The enemy will not oppress him; the wicked will not afflict him.
And I will beat down his foes before his face, and plague them that hate him.23I will crush his foes before him and strike those who hate him.
But my faithfulness and my mercy shall be with him: and in my name shall his horn be exalted.24My faithfulness and love will be with him, and through my name his horn will be exalted.
I will set his hand also in the sea, and his right hand in the rivers.25I will extend his power to the sea and his right hand to the rivers.
He shall cry unto me, Thou art my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation.26He will call to me, 'You are my Father, my God, the rock of my salvation.'
Also I will make him my firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth.27I will also make him my firstborn, greatest of the kings of the earth.
My mercy will I keep for him for evermore, and my covenant shall stand fast with him.28I will always preserve my faithful love for him, and my covenant with him will endure.
His seed also will I make to endure for ever, and his throne as the days of heaven.29I will establish his line forever, his throne as long as heaven lasts.
If his children forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments;30If his sons abandon my instruction and do not live by my ordinances,
If they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments;31if they dishonor my statutes and do not keep my commands,
Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes.32then I will call their rebellion to account with the rod, their iniquity with blows.
Nevertheless my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, nor suffer my faithfulness to fail.33But I will not withdraw my faithful love from him or betray my faithfulness.
My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.34I will not violate my covenant or change what my lips have said.
Once have I sworn by my holiness that I will not lie unto David.35Once and for all I have sworn an oath by my holiness; I will not lie to David.
His seed shall endure for ever, and his throne as the sun before me.36His offspring will continue forever, his throne like the sun before me,
It shall be established for ever as the moon, and as a faithful witness in heaven. Selah.37like the moon, established forever, a faithful witness in the sky." Selah
But thou hast cast off and abhorred, thou hast been wroth with thine anointed.38But you have spurned and rejected him; you have become enraged with your anointed.
Thou hast made void the covenant of thy servant: thou hast profaned his crown by casting it to the ground.39You have repudiated the covenant with your servant; you have completely dishonored his crown.
Thou hast broken down all his hedges; thou hast brought his strong holds to ruin.40You have broken down all his walls; you have reduced his fortified cities to ruins.
All that pass by the way spoil him: he is a reproach to his neighbours.41All who pass by plunder him; he has become an object of ridicule to his neighbors.
Thou hast set up the right hand of his adversaries; thou hast made all his enemies to rejoice.42You have lifted high the right hand of his foes; you have made all his enemies rejoice.
Thou hast also turned the edge of his sword, and hast not made him to stand in the battle.43You have also turned back his sharp sword and have not let him stand in battle.
Thou hast made his glory to cease, and cast his throne down to the ground.44You have made his splendor cease and have overturned his throne.
The days of his youth hast thou shortened: thou hast covered him with shame. Selah.45You have shortened the days of his youth; you have covered him with shame. Selah
How long, LORD? wilt thou hide thyself for ever? shall thy wrath burn like fire?46How long, LORD? Will you hide forever? Will your anger keep burning like fire?
Remember how short my time is: wherefore hast thou made all men in vain?47Remember how short my life is. Have you created everyone for nothing?
What man is he that liveth, and shall not see death? shall he deliver his soul from the hand of the grave? Selah.48What courageous person can live and never see death? Who can save himself from the power of Sheol? Selah
Lord, where are thy former lovingkindnesses, which thou swarest unto David in thy truth?49Lord, where are the former acts of your faithful love that you swore to David in your faithfulness?
Remember, Lord, the reproach of thy servants; how I do bear in my bosom the reproach of all the mighty people;50Remember, Lord, the ridicule against your servants--in my heart I carry abuse from all the peoples--
Wherewith thine enemies have reproached, O LORD; wherewith they have reproached the footsteps of thine anointed.51how your enemies have ridiculed, LORD, how they have ridiculed every step of your anointed.
Blessed be the LORD for evermore. Amen, and Amen.52Blessed be the LORD forever. Amen and amen.
