Good News Translation
When the LORD your God places these people in your power and you defeat them, you must put them all to death. Do not make an alliance with them or show them any mercy.

1When the Lord thy God shall have brought thee into the land, which thou art going in to possess, and shall have destroyed many nations before thee, the Hethite, and the Gergezite, and the Amorrhite, and the Chanaanite, and the Pherezite, and the Hevite, and the Jebusite, seven nations much more numerous than thou art, and stronger than thou: 2And the Lord thy God shall have delivered them to thee, thou shalt utterly destroy them. Thou shalt make no league with them, nor shew mercy to them:3Neither shalt thou make marriages with them. Thou shalt not give thy daughter to his son, nor take his daughter for thy son:…
Thou shalt not enter into league with them, nor with their gods.
Therefore kill all that are of the male sex, even of the children: and put to death the women, that have carnally known men.
And the Lord our God delivered him to us: and we slew him with his sons and all his people.
And we took all his cities at that time, killing the inhabitants of them, men and women and children. We left nothing of them:
Thou shalt consume all the people, which the Lord thy God will deliver to thee. Thy eye shall not spare them, neither shalt thou serve their gods, lest they be thy ruin.
Consent not to him, hear him not, neither let thy eye spare him to pity and conceal him,
Thou shalt not pity him, and thou shalt take away the guilt of innocent blood out of Israel, that it may be well with thee.
Thou shalt cut off her hand, neither shalt thou be moved with any pity in her regard.
Therefore when the Lord shall have delivered these also to you, you shall do in like manner to them as I have commanded you.
His dwelling is above, and underneath are the everlasting arms: he shall cast out the enemy from before thee, and shall say: Be thou brought to nought.
Perhaps you dwell in the land which falls to our lot; if so, we can make no league with you.
And he cut off all the souls that abode there: he left not in it any remains, but utterly destroyed all, and burned the city itself with fire.
And he took and put to the sword and destroyed all the cities round about, and their kings, as Moses the servant of God had commanded him.
On condition that you should not make a league with the inhabitants of this land, but should throw down their altars: and you would not hear my voice: why have you done this?
Let us make a covenant with the Lord our God, to put away all the wives, and such as are born of them, according to the will of the Lord, and of them that fear the commandment of the Lord our God: let it be done according to the law.
They did not destroy the nations of which the Lord spoke unto them.
