who had his dwelling in the tombs. And no longer was anyone able to bind him, not even with a chain,

because he often had been bound with shackles and chains, and the chains had been torn in two by him, and the shackles had been shattered. And no one had strength to subdue him.

And constantly all night and day in the tombs and in the mountains he was crying out and cutting himself with stones.

And having seen Jesus from afar, he ran and fell on his knees before Him.

And having cried out in a loud voice, he says, “What is it to me and to You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I adjure You by God, do not torment me!”

For He was saying to him, “Come out of the man, unclean spirit!”

And He was asking him, “What is your name?” And he says to Him, “Legion is my name, because we are many.”

And he implored Him much that He might not send them out of the region.

Now there was near the mountain a great herd of pigs feeding.

And they implored Him, saying, “Send us into the pigs, so that we may enter into them.”

And He allowed them. And the unclean spirits, having gone out, entered into the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea—about two thousand—and they were drowned in the sea.

And those feeding them fled and reported it to the city and to the fields. And they went to see what it is that has happened.

And they come to Jesus, and they see the man possessed by demons sitting, clothed and sound-minded—the one having had the legion—and they were afraid.

And those having seen it related to them how it happened to the one possessed by demons, and about the pigs.

And they began to implore Him to go away from their borders.

And on His having entered into the boat, the one having been possessed by demons was imploring Him that he might be with Him.

And He did not permit him, but He says to him, “Go to your house, to your? own, and report to them how much the Lord has done for you, and how He had mercy on you.”

And he went away and began to proclaim in the Decapolis how much Jesus did for him. And all were marveling.

And on Jesus having crossed over in the boat again to the other side, a great crowd was gathered to Him, and He was beside the sea.

And one of the synagogue rulers comes, named Jairus, and having seen Him, he falls at His feet,

and he implores Him much, saying, “My little daughter is holding at the end, so that, having come, You might lay the hands on her, so that she might be saved, and she might live.”

And He went away with him. And a great crowd was following Him, and they were pressing in on Him.

And a woman, being with a flow of blood twelve years,

and having suffered much under many physicians, and having spent all of hers and having benefited in no way, but rather to the worse having come,

having heard about Jesus, having come in the crowd behind, she touched His garment.

For she was saying, “If I shall touch even His garments, I will be saved.”

And immediately her flow of blood was dried up, and she knew in the body that she was healed from the affliction.

And immediately Jesus, having known in Himself the power having gone out of Him, having turned in the crowd, said, “Who touched My garments?”

And His disciples were saying to Him, “You see the crowd pressing in on You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’”

And He was looking around to see the one having done this.

And the woman, having been afraid and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him, and told Him all the truth.

And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has saved you; go in peace and be sound from your affliction.”

In His still speaking, they come from the synagogue ruler, saying, “Your daughter died; why do you still trouble the Teacher?”

But Jesus, having heard the word spoken, says to the synagogue ruler, “Do not fear; only believe.”

And He did not allow anyone to follow with Him except Peter and James and John the brother of James.

And they come to the house of the synagogue ruler, and He sees a commotion, and much weeping and wailing.

And having entered, He says to them, “Why do you? make a commotion and weep? The child did not die, but sleeps.”

And they were laughing at Him. And He, having put all outside, takes along the father and the mother of the child, and those with Him, and He enters in where the child was.

And having taken the hand of the child, He says to her, “Talitha, koum!” which is translated, “Little girl, I say to you, arise!”

And immediately the girl arose and began walking, for she was of twelve years. And immediately they were amazed with great amazement.

And He instructed them much that no one should know this; and He said to be given to her to eat.
