1 O give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; For His compassion and lovingkindness endure forever! Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever! Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.
2 Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, Whom He has redeemed from the hand of the adversary, Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he has redeemed from trouble Let the redeemed of the LORD tell their story— those he redeemed from the hand of the foe,
3 And gathered them from the lands, From the east and from the west, From the north and from the south. and gathered in from the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south. those he gathered from the lands, from east and west, from north and south.
4 They wandered in the wilderness in a [solitary] desert region; And did not find a way to an inhabited city. Some wandered in desert wastes, finding no way to a city to dwell in; Some wandered in desert wastelands, finding no way to a city where they could settle.
5 Hungry and thirsty, They fainted. hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted within them. They were hungry and thirsty, and their lives ebbed away.

9 For He satisfies the parched throat, And fills the hungry appetite with what is good. For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things. for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.
10 Some dwelt in darkness and in the deep (deathly) darkness, Prisoners [bound] in misery and chains, Some sat in darkness and in the shadow of death, prisoners in affliction and in irons, Some sat in darkness, in utter darkness, prisoners suffering in iron chains,
11 Because they had rebelled against the precepts of God And spurned the counsel of the Most High. for they had rebelled against the words of God, and spurned the counsel of the Most High. because they rebelled against God’s commands and despised the plans of the Most High.
12 Therefore He humbled their heart with hard labor; They stumbled and there was no one to help. So he bowed their hearts down with hard labor; they fell down, with none to help. So he subjected them to bitter labor; they stumbled, and there was no one to help.

16 For He has shattered the gates of bronze And cut the bars of iron apart. For he shatters the doors of bronze and cuts in two the bars of iron. for he breaks down gates of bronze and cuts through bars of iron.
17 Fools, because of their rebellious way, And because of their sins, were afflicted. Some were fools through their sinful ways, and because of their iniquities suffered affliction; Some became fools through their rebellious ways and suffered affliction because of their iniquities.
18 They detested all kinds of food, And they drew near to the gates of death. they loathed any kind of food, and they drew near to the gates of death. They loathed all food and drew near the gates of death.

26 They went up toward the heavens [on the crest of the wave], they went down again to the depths [of the watery trough]; Their courage melted away in their misery. 32 Let them exalt Him also in the congregation of the people, And praise Him at the seat of the elders. Let them extol him in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the elders. Let them exalt him in the assembly of the people and praise him in the council of the elders.
33 He turns rivers into a wilderness, And springs of water into a thirsty ground; He turns rivers into a desert, springs of water into thirsty ground, He turned rivers into a desert, flowing springs into thirsty ground,

36 And there He has the hungry dwell, So that they may establish an inhabited city, And there he lets the hungry dwell, and they establish a city to live in; there he brought the hungry to live, and they founded a city where they could settle.
37 And sow fields and plant vineyards, And produce an abundant harvest. they sow fields and plant vineyards and get a fruitful yield. They sowed fields and planted vineyards that yielded a fruitful harvest;

39 When they are diminished and bowed down (humbled) Through oppression, misery, and sorrow, When they are diminished and brought low through oppression, evil, and sorrow, Then their numbers decreased, and they were humbled by oppression, calamity and sorrow;
40 He pours contempt on princes And makes them wander in a pathless wasteland. he pours contempt on princes and makes them wander in trackless wastes; he who pours contempt on nobles made them wander in a trackless waste.
41 Yet He sets the needy securely on high, away from affliction, And makes their families like a flock. but he raises up the needy out of affliction and makes their families like flocks. But he lifted the needy out of their affliction and increased their families like flocks.
42 The upright see it and rejoice; But all unrighteousness shuts its mouth. The upright see it and are glad, and all wickedness shuts its mouth. The upright see and rejoice, but all the wicked shut their mouths.
43 Who is wise? Let him observe and heed these things; And [thoughtfully] consider the lovingkindness of the LORD. Whoever is wise, let him attend to these things; let them consider the steadfast love of the LORD. Let the one who is wise heed these things and ponder the loving deeds of the LORD.
