1 When I heal Israel, the iniquity of Ephraim will be exposed, as well as the crimes of Samaria. For they practice deceit and thieves break in; bandits raid in the streets. when I would heal Israel, the iniquity of Ephraim is revealed, and the evil deeds of Samaria, for they deal falsely; the thief breaks in, and the bandits raid outside. When I would have healed Israel, then the iniquity of Ephraim was discovered, and the wickedness of Samaria: for they commit falsehood; and the thief cometh in, <i>and</i> the troop of robbers spoileth without. When I would heal Israel, The wrongdoing of Ephraim is uncovered, And the evil deeds of Samaria, For they practice deception; The thief enters, A band of robbers attack outside, whenever I would heal Israel, the sins of Ephraim are exposed and the crimes of Samaria revealed. They practice deceit, thieves break into houses, bandits rob in the streets;
2 But they fail to consider in their hearts that I remember all their evil. Now their deeds are all around them; they are before My face. But they do not consider that I remember all their evil. Now their deeds surround them; they are before my face. And they consider not in their hearts <i>that</i> I remember all their wickedness: now their own doings have beset them about; they are before my face. 3 They delight the king with their evil, and the princes with their lies. By their evil they make the king glad, and the princes by their treachery. 4 They are all adulterers, like an oven heated by a baker who needs not stoke the fire from the kneading to the rising of the dough. They are all adulterers; they are like a heated oven whose baker ceases to stir the fire, from the kneading of the dough until it is leavened. They <i>are</i> all adulterers, as an oven heated by the baker, <i>who</i> ceaseth from raising after he hath kneaded the dough, until it be leavened. They are all adulterers, Like an oven heated by the baker, Who stops stoking <i>the fire</i> From <i>the time</i> the dough is kneaded until it is leavened. They are all adulterers, burning like an oven whose fire the baker need not stir from the kneading of the dough till it rises.
5 The princes are inflamed with wine on the day of our king; so he joins hands with those who mock him. On the day of our king, the princes became sick with the heat of wine; he stretched out his hand with mockers. In the day of our king the princes have made <i>him</i> sick with bottles of wine; he stretched out his hand with scorners. On the day of our king, the officials became sick with the heat of wine; He stretched out his hand with scoffers, On the day of the festival of our king the princes become inflamed with wine, and he joins hands with the mockers.
6 For they prepare their heart like an oven while they lie in wait; all night their anger smolders; in the morning it blazes like a flaming fire. For with hearts like an oven they approach their intrigue; all night their anger smolders; in the morning it blazes like a flaming fire. For they have made ready their heart like an oven, whiles they lie in wait: their baker sleepeth all the night; in the morning it burneth as a flaming fire. 9 Foreigners consume his strength, but he does not notice. Even his hair is streaked with gray, but he does not know. Strangers devour his strength, and he knows it not; gray hairs are sprinkled upon him, and he knows it not. Strangers have devoured his strength, and he knoweth <i>it</i> not: yea, gray hairs are here and there upon him, yet he knoweth not. Strangers devour his strength, Yet he does not know <i>it;</i> Gray hairs also are sprinkled on him, Yet he does not know <i>it.</i> Foreigners sap his strength, but he does not realize it. His hair is sprinkled with gray, but he does not notice.
10 Israel’s arrogance testifies against them, yet they do not return to the LORD their God; despite all this, they do not seek Him. The pride of Israel testifies to his face; yet they do not return to the LORD their God, nor seek him, for all this. And the pride of Israel testifieth to his face: and they do not return to the LORD their God, nor seek him for all this. Though the pride of Israel testifies against him, Yet they have not returned to the LORD their God, Nor have they sought Him, despite all this. Israel’s arrogance testifies against him, but despite all this he does not return to the LORD his God or search for him.
11 So Ephraim has become like a silly, senseless dove— calling out to Egypt, then turning to Assyria. Ephraim is like a dove, silly and without sense, calling to Egypt, going to Assyria. Ephraim also is like a silly dove without heart: they call to Egypt, they go to Assyria. So Ephraim has become like a gullible dove, without sense; They call to Egypt, they go to Assyria. “Ephraim is like a dove, easily deceived and senseless— now calling to Egypt, now turning to Assyria.
12 As they go, I will spread My net over them; I will bring them down like birds of the air. I will chastise them when I hear them flocking together. As they go, I will spread over them my net; I will bring them down like birds of the heavens; I will discipline them according to the report made to their congregation. When they shall go, I will spread my net upon them; I will bring them down as the fowls of the heaven; I will chastise them, as their congregation hath heard. When they go, I will spread My net over them; I will bring them down like the birds of the sky. I will discipline them in accordance with the proclamation to their assembly. When they go, I will throw my net over them; I will pull them down like the birds in the sky. When I hear them flocking together, I will catch them.
13 Woe to them, for they have strayed from Me! Destruction to them, for they have rebelled against Me! Though I would redeem them, they speak lies against Me. Woe unto them! for they have fled from me: destruction unto them! because they have transgressed against me: though I have redeemed them, yet they have spoken lies against me. 14 They do not cry out to Me from their hearts when they wail upon their beds. They slash themselves for grain and new wine, but turn away from Me. They do not cry to me from the heart, but they wail upon their beds; for grain and wine they gash themselves; they rebel against me. And they have not cried unto me with their heart, when they howled upon their beds: they assemble themselves for corn and wine, <i>and</i> they rebel against me. And they do not cry to Me from their heart When they wail on their beds; For the sake of grain and new wine they assemble themselves, They turn against Me. They do not cry out to me from their hearts but wail on their beds. They slash themselves, appealing to their gods for grain and new wine, but they turn away from me.
15 Although I trained and strengthened their arms, they plot evil against Me. Although I trained and strengthened their arms, yet they devise evil against me. 16 They turn, but not to the Most High; they are like a faulty bow. Their leaders will fall by the sword for the cursing of their tongue; for this they will be ridiculed in the land of Egypt. They return, but not upward; they are like a treacherous bow; their princes shall fall by the sword because of the insolence of their tongue. This shall be their derision in the land of Egypt. They return, <i>but</i> not to the most High: they are like a deceitful bow: their princes shall fall by the sword for the rage of their tongue: this <i>shall be</i> their derision in the land of Egypt. They turn, <i>but</i> not upward, They are like a loose bow; Their officials will fall by the sword Because of the insolence of their tongue. This <i>will be</i> their derision in the land of Egypt. They do not turn to the Most High; they are like a faulty bow. Their leaders will fall by the sword because of their insolent words. For this they will be ridiculed in the land of Egypt.
