| 1As Jesus was leaving the Temple grounds, his disciples pointed out to him the various Temple buildings. | 1As Jesus left the temple and was walking away, His disciples came up to Him to point out its buildings. |
| 2But he responded, "Do you see all these buildings? I tell you the truth, they will be completely demolished. Not one stone will be left on top of another!" | 2“Do you see all these things?” He replied. “Truly I tell you, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be toppled.” |
| 3Later, Jesus sat on the Mount of Olives. His disciples came to him privately and said, "Tell us, when will all this happen? What sign will signal your return and the end of the world?" | 3While Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately. “Tell us,” they said, “when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming and of the end of the age?” |
| 4Jesus told them, "Don't let anyone mislead you, | 4Jesus answered, “See to it that no one deceives you. |
| 5for many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Messiah.' They will deceive many. | 5For many will come in My name, claiming, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. |
| 6And you will hear of wars and threats of wars, but don't panic. Yes, these things must take place, but the end won't follow immediately. | 6You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. These things must happen, but the end is still to come. |
| 7Nation will go to war against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in many parts of the world. | 7Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. |
| 8But all this is only the first of the birth pains, with more to come. | 8All these are the beginning of birth pains. |
| 9"Then you will be arrested, persecuted, and killed. You will be hated all over the world because you are my followers. | 9Then they will deliver you over to be persecuted and killed, and you will be hated by all nations on account of My name. |
| 10And many will turn away from me and betray and hate each other. | 10At that time many will fall away and will betray and hate one another, |

| 12Sin will be rampant everywhere, and the love of many will grow cold. | 12Because of the multiplication of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold. |
| 13But the one who endures to the end will be saved. | 13But the one who perseveres to the end will be saved. |
| 14And the Good News about the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, so that all nations will hear it; and then the end will come. | 14And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. |
| 15"The day is coming when you will see what Daniel the prophet spoke about--the sacrilegious object that causes desecration standing in the Holy Place." (Reader, pay attention!) | 15So when you see standing in the holy place ‘the abomination of desolation,’ described by the prophet Daniel (let the reader understand), |
| 16"Then those in Judea must flee to the hills. | 16then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. |
| 17A person out on the deck of a roof must not go down into the house to pack. | 17Let no one on the housetop come down to retrieve anything from his house. |
| 18A person out in the field must not return even to get a coat. | 18And let no one in the field return for his cloak. |
| 19How terrible it will be for pregnant women and for nursing mothers in those days. | 19How miserable those days will be for pregnant and nursing mothers! |
| 20And pray that your flight will not be in winter or on the Sabbath. | 20Pray that your flight will not occur in the winter or on the Sabbath. |
| 21For there will be greater anguish than at any time since the world began. And it will never be so great again. | 21For at that time there will be great tribulation, unmatched from the beginning of the world until now, and never to be seen again. |

| 25See, I have warned you about this ahead of time. | 25See, I have told you in advance. |
| 26"So if someone tells you, 'Look, the Messiah is out in the desert,' don't bother to go and look. Or, 'Look, he is hiding here,' don't believe it! | 26So if they tell you, ‘There He is in the wilderness,’ do not go out; or, ‘Here He is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. |

| 28Just as the gathering of vultures shows there is a carcass nearby, so these signs indicate that the end is near. | 28Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather. |
| 29"Immediately after the anguish of those days, the sun will be darkened, the moon will give no light, the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. | 29Immediately after the tribulation of those days: ‘The sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.’ |
| 30And then at last, the sign that the Son of Man is coming will appear in the heavens, and there will be deep mourning among all the peoples of the earth. And they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. | 30At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and all the tribes of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory. |
| 31And he will send out his angels with the mighty blast of a trumpet, and they will gather his chosen ones from all over the world--from the farthest ends of the earth and heaven. | 31And He will send out His angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather His elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other. |

| 44You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected. | 44For this reason, you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour you do not expect. |
| 45"A faithful, sensible servant is one to whom the master can give the responsibility of managing his other household servants and feeding them. | 45Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of his household, to give the others their food at the proper time? |
| 46If the master returns and finds that the servant has done a good job, there will be a reward. | 46Blessed is that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns. |
| 47I tell you the truth, the master will put that servant in charge of all he owns. | 47Truly I tell you, he will put him in charge of all his possessions. |
| 48But what if the servant is evil and thinks, 'My master won't be back for a while,' | 48But suppose that servant is wicked and says in his heart, ‘My master will be away a long time.’ |
| 49and he begins beating the other servants, partying, and getting drunk? | 49And he begins to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with drunkards. |
| 50The master will return unannounced and unexpected, | 50The master of that servant will come on a day he does not anticipate and at an hour he does not expect. |
