NKJV Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New King James VersionEnglish Standard Version
To the Chief Musician. Set to “The Lilies.” A Psalm of David. Save me, O God! For the waters have come up to my neck.1Save me, O God! For the waters have come up to my neck.
I sink in deep mire, Where there is no standing; I have come into deep waters, Where the floods overflow me.2I sink in deep mire, where there is no foothold; I have come into deep waters, and the flood sweeps over me.
I am weary with my crying; My throat is dry; My eyes fail while I wait for my God.3I am weary with my crying out; my throat is parched. My eyes grow dim with waiting for my God.
Those who hate me without a cause Are more than the hairs of my head; They are mighty who would destroy me, Being my enemies wrongfully; Though I have stolen nothing, I still must restore it.4More in number than the hairs of my head are those who hate me without cause; mighty are those who would destroy me, those who attack me with lies. What I did not steal must I now restore?
O God, You know my foolishness; And my sins are not hidden from You.5O God, you know my folly; the wrongs I have done are not hidden from you.
Let not those who wait for You, O Lord GOD of hosts, be ashamed because of me; Let not those who seek You be confounded because of me, O God of Israel.6Let not those who hope in you be put to shame through me, O Lord GOD of hosts; let not those who seek you be brought to dishonor through me, O God of Israel.
Because for Your sake I have borne reproach; Shame has covered my face.7For it is for your sake that I have borne reproach, that dishonor has covered my face.
I have become a stranger to my brothers, And an alien to my mother’s children;8I have become a stranger to my brothers, an alien to my mother’s sons.
Because zeal for Your house has eaten me up, And the reproaches of those who reproach You have fallen on me.9For zeal for your house has consumed me, and the reproaches of those who reproach you have fallen on me.
When I wept and chastened my soul with fasting, That became my reproach.10When I wept and humbled my soul with fasting, it became my reproach.
I also made sackcloth my garment; I became a byword to them.11When I made sackcloth my clothing, I became a byword to them.
Those who sit in the gate speak against me, And I am the song of the drunkards.12I am the talk of those who sit in the gate, and the drunkards make songs about me.
But as for me, my prayer is to You, O LORD, in the acceptable time; O God, in the multitude of Your mercy, Hear me in the truth of Your salvation.13But as for me, my prayer is to you, O LORD. At an acceptable time, O God, in the abundance of your steadfast love answer me in your saving faithfulness.
Deliver me out of the mire, And let me not sink; Let me be delivered from those who hate me, And out of the deep waters.14Deliver me from sinking in the mire; let me be delivered from my enemies and from the deep waters.
Let not the floodwater overflow me, Nor let the deep swallow me up; And let not the pit shut its mouth on me.15Let not the flood sweep over me, or the deep swallow me up, or the pit close its mouth over me.
Hear me, O LORD, for Your lovingkindness is good; Turn to me according to the multitude of Your tender mercies.16Answer me, O LORD, for your steadfast love is good; according to your abundant mercy, turn to me.
And do not hide Your face from Your servant, For I am in trouble; Hear me speedily.17Hide not your face from your servant, for I am in distress; make haste to answer me.
Draw near to my soul, and redeem it; Deliver me because of my enemies.18Draw near to my soul, redeem me; ransom me because of my enemies!
You know my reproach, my shame, and my dishonor; My adversaries are all before You.19You know my reproach, and my shame and my dishonor; my foes are all known to you.
Reproach has broken my heart, And I am full of heaviness; I looked for someone to take pity, but there was none; And for comforters, but I found none.20Reproaches have broken my heart, so that I am in despair. I looked for pity, but there was none, and for comforters, but I found none.
They also gave me gall for my food, And for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.21They gave me poison for food, and for my thirst they gave me sour wine to drink.
Let their table become a snare before them, And their well-being a trap.22Let their own table before them become a snare; and when they are at peace, let it become a trap.
Let their eyes be darkened, so that they do not see; And make their loins shake continually.23Let their eyes be darkened, so that they cannot see, and make their loins tremble continually.
Pour out Your indignation upon them, And let Your wrathful anger take hold of them.24Pour out your indignation upon them, and let your burning anger overtake them.
Let their dwelling place be desolate; Let no one live in their tents.25May their camp be a desolation; let no one dwell in their tents.
For they persecute the ones You have struck, And talk of the grief of those You have wounded.26For they persecute him whom you have struck down, and they recount the pain of those you have wounded.
Add iniquity to their iniquity, And let them not come into Your righteousness.27Add to them punishment upon punishment; may they have no acquittal from you.
Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, And not be written with the righteous.28Let them be blotted out of the book of the living; let them not be enrolled among the righteous.
But I am poor and sorrowful; Let Your salvation, O God, set me up on high.29But I am afflicted and in pain; let your salvation, O God, set me on high!
I will praise the name of God with a song, And will magnify Him with thanksgiving.30I will praise the name of God with a song; I will magnify him with thanksgiving.
This also shall please the LORD better than an ox or bull, Which has horns and hooves.31This will please the LORD more than an ox or a bull with horns and hoofs.
The humble shall see this and be glad; And you who seek God, your hearts shall live.32When the humble see it they will be glad; you who seek God, let your hearts revive.
For the LORD hears the poor, And does not despise His prisoners.33For the LORD hears the needy and does not despise his own people who are prisoners.
Let heaven and earth praise Him, The seas and everything that moves in them.34Let heaven and earth praise him, the seas and everything that moves in them.
For God will save Zion And build the cities of Judah, That they may dwell there and possess it.35For God will save Zion and build up the cities of Judah, and people shall dwell there and possess it;
Also, the descendants of His servants shall inherit it, And those who love His name shall dwell in it.36the offspring of his servants shall inherit it, and those who love his name shall dwell in it.
