NET Parallel NASB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
NET BibleNew American Standard Bible 1995
I am the man who has experienced affliction from the rod of his wrath. 1I am the man who has seen affliction Because of the rod of His wrath.
He drove me into captivity and made me walk in darkness and not light. 2He has driven me and made me walk In darkness and not in light.
He repeatedly attacks me, he turns his hand against me all day long. 3Surely against me He has turned His hand Repeatedly all the day.
He has made my mortal skin waste away; he has broken my bones. 4He has caused my flesh and my skin to waste away, He has broken my bones.
He has besieged and surrounded me with bitter hardship. 5He has besieged and encompassed me with bitterness and hardship.
He has made me reside in deepest darkness like those who died long ago. 6In dark places He has made me dwell, Like those who have long been dead.
He has walled me in so that I cannot get out; he has weighted me down with heavy prison chains. 7He has walled me in so that I cannot go out; He has made my chain heavy.
Also, when I cry out desperately for help, he has shut out my prayer. 8Even when I cry out and call for help, He shuts out my prayer.
He has blocked every road I take with a wall of hewn stones; he has made every path impassable. 9He has blocked my ways with hewn stone; He has made my paths crooked.
To me he is like a bear lying in ambush, like a hidden lion stalking its prey. 10He is to me like a bear lying in wait, Like a lion in secret places.
He has obstructed my paths and torn me to pieces; he has made me desolate. 11He has turned aside my ways and torn me to pieces; He has made me desolate.
He drew his bow and made me the target for his arrow. 12He bent His bow And set me as a target for the arrow.
He shot his arrows into my heart. 13He made the arrows of His quiver To enter into my inward parts.
I have become the laughingstock of all people, their mocking song all day long. 14I have become a laughingstock to all my people, Their mocking song all the day.
He has given me my fill of bitter herbs and made me drunk with bitterness. 15He has filled me with bitterness, He has made me drunk with wormwood.
He ground my teeth in gravel; he trampled me in the dust. 16He has broken my teeth with gravel; He has made me cower in the dust.
I am deprived of peace; I have forgotten what happiness is. 17My soul has been rejected from peace; I have forgotten happiness.
So I said, "My endurance has expired; I have lost all hope of deliverance from the LORD." 18So I say, "My strength has perished, And so has my hope from the LORD."
Remember my impoverished and homeless condition, which is a bitter poison. 19Remember my affliction and my wandering, the wormwood and bitterness.
I continually think about this, and I am depressed. 20Surely my soul remembers And is bowed down within me.
But this I call to mind; therefore I have hope: 21This I recall to my mind, Therefore I have hope.
The LORD's loyal kindness never ceases; his compassions never end. 22The LORD'S lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail.
They are fresh every morning; your faithfulness is abundant! 23They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.
"My portion is the Lord," I have said to myself, so I will put my hope in him. 24"The LORD is my portion," says my soul, "Therefore I have hope in Him."
The LORD is good to those who trust in him, to the one who seeks him. 25The LORD is good to those who wait for Him, To the person who seeks Him.
It is good to wait patiently for deliverance from the LORD. 26It is good that he waits silently For the salvation of the LORD.
It is good for a man to bear the yoke while he is young. 27It is good for a man that he should bear The yoke in his youth.
Let a person sit alone in silence, when the LORD is disciplining him. 28Let him sit alone and be silent Since He has laid it on him.
Let him bury his face in the dust; perhaps there is hope. 29Let him put his mouth in the dust, Perhaps there is hope.
Let him offer his cheek to the one who hits him; let him have his fill of insults. 30Let him give his cheek to the smiter, Let him be filled with reproach.
For the Lord will not reject us forever. 31For the Lord will not reject forever,
Though he causes us grief, he then has compassion on us according to the abundance of his loyal kindness. 32For if He causes grief, Then He will have compassion According to His abundant lovingkindness.
For he is not predisposed to afflict or to grieve people. 33For He does not afflict willingly Or grieve the sons of men.
To crush underfoot all the earth's prisoners, 34To crush under His feet All the prisoners of the land,
to deprive a person of his rights in the presence of the Most High, 35To deprive a man of justice In the presence of the Most High,
to defraud a person in a lawsuit--the Lord does not approve of such things! 36To defraud a man in his lawsuit-- Of these things the Lord does not approve.
Whose command was ever fulfilled unless the Lord decreed it? 37Who is there who speaks and it comes to pass, Unless the Lord has commanded it?
Is it not from the mouth of the Most High that everything comes--both calamity and blessing? 38Is it not from the mouth of the Most High That both good and ill go forth?
Why should any living person complain when punished for his sins? 39Why should any living mortal, or any man, Offer complaint in view of his sins?
Let us carefully examine our ways, and let us return to the LORD. 40Let us examine and probe our ways, And let us return to the LORD.
Let us lift up our hearts and our hands to God in heaven: 41We lift up our heart and hands Toward God in heaven;
"We have blatantly rebelled; you have not forgiven." 42We have transgressed and rebelled, You have not pardoned.
You shrouded yourself with anger and then pursued us; you killed without mercy. 43You have covered Yourself with anger And pursued us; You have slain and have not spared.
You shrouded yourself with a cloud so that no prayer can get through. 44You have covered Yourself with a cloud So that no prayer can pass through.
You make us like filthy scum in the estimation of the nations. 45You have made us mere offscouring and refuse In the midst of the peoples.
All our enemies have gloated over us; 46All our enemies have opened their mouths against us.
Panic and pitfall have come upon us, devastation and destruction. 47Panic and pitfall have befallen us, Devastation and destruction;
Streams of tears flow from my eyes because my people are destroyed. 48My eyes run down with streams of water Because of the destruction of the daughter of my people.
Tears flow from my eyes and will not stop; there will be no break 49My eyes pour down unceasingly, Without stopping,
until the LORD looks down from heaven and sees what has happened. 50Until the LORD looks down And sees from heaven.
What my eyes see grieves me--all the suffering of the daughters in my city. 51My eyes bring pain to my soul Because of all the daughters of my city.
For no good reason my enemies hunted me down like a bird. 52My enemies without cause Hunted me down like a bird;
They shut me up in a pit and threw stones at me. 53They have silenced me in the pit And have placed a stone on me.
The waters closed over my head; I thought I was about to die. 54Waters flowed over my head; I said, "I am cut off!"
I have called on your name, O LORD, from the deepest pit. 55I called on Your name, O LORD, Out of the lowest pit.
You heard my plea: "Do not close your ears to my cry for relief!" 56You have heard my voice, "Do not hide Your ear from my prayer for relief, From my cry for help."
You came near on the day I called to you; you said, "Do not fear!" 57You drew near when I called on You; You said, "Do not fear!"
O Lord, you championed my cause, you redeemed my life. 58O Lord, You have pleaded my soul's cause; You have redeemed my life.
You have seen the wrong done to me, O LORD; pronounce judgment on my behalf! 59O LORD, You have seen my oppression; Judge my case.
You have seen all their vengeance, all their plots against me. 60You have seen all their vengeance, All their schemes against me.
You have heard their taunts, O LORD, all their plots against me. 61You have heard their reproach, O LORD, All their schemes against me.
My assailants revile and conspire against me all day long. 62The lips of my assailants and their whispering Are against me all day long.
Watch them from morning to evening; I am the object of their mocking songs. 63Look on their sitting and their rising; I am their mocking song.
Pay them back what they deserve, O LORD, according to what they have done. 64You will recompense them, O LORD, According to the work of their hands.
Give them a distraught heart; may your curse be on them! 65You will give them hardness of heart, Your curse will be on them.
Pursue them in anger and eradicate them from under the LORD's heaven. 66You will pursue them in anger and destroy them From under the heavens of the LORD!
