NET BibleInternational Standard Version
Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, and his loyal love endures! 1Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good! His gracious love exists forever.
Let those delivered by the LORD speak out, those whom he delivered from the power of the enemy, 2Let those who have been redeemed by the LORD declare it— those whom he redeemed from the power of the enemy,
and gathered from foreign lands, from east and west, from north and south. 3those whom he gathered from other lands— from the east, west, north, and south.
They wandered through the wilderness on a desert road; they found no city in which to live. 4They wandered in desolate wilderness; they found no road to a city where they could live.
They were hungry and thirsty; they fainted from exhaustion. 5Hungry and thirsty, their spirits failed.
They cried out to the LORD in their distress; he delivered them from their troubles. 6Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress.
He led them on a level road, that they might find a city in which to live. 7He led them in a straight way to find a city where they could live.
Let them give thanks to the LORD for his loyal love, and for the amazing things he has done for people! 8Let them give thanks to the LORD for his gracious love and his awesome deeds for mankind.
For he has satisfied those who thirst, and those who hunger he has filled with food. 9He has satisfied the one who thirsts, filling the hungry with what is good.
They sat in utter darkness, bound in painful iron chains, 10Some sat in deepest darkness, shackled with cruel iron,
because they had rebelled against God's commands, and rejected the instructions of the sovereign king. 11because they had rebelled against the command of God, despising the advice of the Most High.
So he used suffering to humble them; they stumbled and no one helped them up. 12He humbled them through suffering, as they stumbled without a helper.
They cried out to the LORD in their distress; he delivered them from their troubles. 13Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble; he delivered them from their distress.
He brought them out of the utter darkness, and tore off their shackles. 14And he brought them out from darkness and the shadow of death, shattering their chains.
Let them give thanks to the LORD for his loyal love, and for the amazing things he has done for people! 15Let them give thanks to the LORD for his gracious love, and for his awesome deeds to mankind.
For he shattered the bronze gates, and hacked through the iron bars. 16For he shattered bronze gates and cut through iron bars.
They acted like fools in their rebellious ways, and suffered because of their sins. 17Because of their rebellious ways, fools suffered for their iniquities.
They lost their appetite for all food, and they drew near the gates of death. 18They loathed all food, and even reached the gates of death.
They cried out to the LORD in their distress; he delivered them from their troubles. 19Yet when they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, he delivered them from certain destruction.
He sent them an assuring word and healed them; he rescued them from the pits where they were trapped. 20He issued his command and healed them; he delivered them from their destruction.
Let them give thanks to the LORD for his loyal love, and for the amazing things he has done for people! 21Let them give thanks to the LORD for his gracious love, and for his awesome deeds for mankind.
Let them present thank offerings, and loudly proclaim what he has done! 22Let them offer sacrifices of thanksgiving and talk about his works with shouts of joy.
Some traveled on the sea in ships, and carried cargo over the vast waters. 23Those who go down to the sea in ships, who work in the great waters,
They witnessed the acts of the LORD, his amazing feats on the deep water. 24witnessed the works of the LORD— his awesome deeds in the ocean's depth.
He gave the order for a windstorm, and it stirred up the waves of the sea. 25He spoke and stirred up a windstorm that made its waves surge.
They reached up to the sky, then dropped into the depths. The sailors' strength left them because the danger was so great. 26The people ascended skyward and descended to the depths, their courage melting away in their peril.
They swayed and staggered like a drunk, and all their skill proved ineffective. 27They reeled and staggered like a drunkard, as all their wisdom became useless.
They cried out to the LORD in their distress; he delivered them from their troubles. 28Yet when they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, the LORD brought them out of their distress.
He calmed the storm, and the waves grew silent. 29He calmed the storm and its waves quieted down.
The sailors rejoiced because the waves grew quiet, and he led them to the harbor they desired. 30So they rejoiced that the waves became quiet, and he led them to their desired haven.
Let them give thanks to the LORD for his loyal love, and for the amazing things he has done for people! 31Let them give thanks to the LORD for his gracious love and for his awesome deeds on behalf of mankind.
Let them exalt him in the assembly of the people! Let them praise him in the place where the leaders preside! 32Let them exalt him in the assembly of the people and praise him in the counsel of the elders.
He turned streams into a desert, springs of water into arid land, 33He turns rivers into a desert, springs of water into dry ground,
and a fruitful land into a barren place, because of the sin of its inhabitants. 34and a fruitful land into a salty waste, due to the wickedness of its inhabitants.
As for his people, he turned a desert into a pool of water, and a dry land into springs of water. 35He turns a desert into a pool of water, dry land into springs of water.
He allowed the hungry to settle there, and they established a city in which to live. 36There he settled the hungry, where they built a city to live in.
They cultivated fields, and planted vineyards, which yielded a harvest of fruit. 37They sowed fields and planted vineyards that yielded a productive harvest.
He blessed them so that they became very numerous. He would not allow their cattle to decrease in number. 38Then he blessed them, and they became numerous; he multiplied their cattle.
As for their enemies, they decreased in number and were beaten down, because of painful distress and suffering. 39But they became few in number, and humiliated by continued oppression, agony, and sorrow.
He would pour contempt upon princes, and he made them wander in a wasteland with no road. 40Having poured contempt on their nobles, causing them to err aimlessly in the way.
Yet he protected the needy from oppression, and cared for his families like a flock of sheep. 41Yet he lifted the needy from affliction and made them families like a flock.
When the godly see this, they rejoice, and every sinner shuts his mouth. 42The upright see it and rejoice, but the mouth of an evil person is shut.
Whoever is wise, let him take note of these things! Let them consider the LORD's acts of loyal love! 43Let whoever is wise observe these things, that they may comprehend the gracious love of the LORD.
