| 21And Jesus answered and said to them, "Truly I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, 'Be taken up and cast into the sea,' it will happen. | 21Jesus replied, "Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and it will be done. |

| 23When He entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to Him while He was teaching, and said, "By what authority are You doing these things, and who gave You this authority?" | 23Jesus entered the temple courts, and, while he was teaching, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him. "By what authority are you doing these things?" they asked. "And who gave you this authority?" |
| 24Jesus said to them, "I will also ask you one thing, which if you tell Me, I will also tell you by what authority I do these things. | 24Jesus replied, "I will also ask you one question. If you answer me, I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things. |
| 25"The baptism of John was from what source, from heaven or from men?" And they began reasoning among themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven,' He will say to us, 'Then why did you not believe him?' | 25John's baptism--where did it come from? Was it from heaven, or of human origin?" They discussed it among themselves and said, "If we say, 'From heaven,' he will ask, 'Then why didn't you believe him?' |
| 26"But if we say, 'From men,' we fear the people; for they all regard John as a prophet." | 26But if we say, 'Of human origin'--we are afraid of the people, for they all hold that John was a prophet." |
| 27And answering Jesus, they said, "We do not know." He also said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things. | 27So they answered Jesus, "We don't know." Then he said, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things. |
| 28"But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first and said, 'Son, go work today in the vineyard.' | 28"What do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first and said, 'Son, go and work today in the vineyard.' |
| 29"And he answered, 'I will not'; but afterward he regretted it and went. | 29"'I will not,' he answered, but later he changed his mind and went. |

| 31"Which of the two did the will of his father?" They said, "The first." Jesus said to them, "Truly I say to you that the tax collectors and prostitutes will get into the kingdom of God before you. | 31"Which of the two did what his father wanted?" "The first," they answered. Jesus said to them, "Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you. |
| 32"For John came to you in the way of righteousness and you did not believe him; but the tax collectors and prostitutes did believe him; and you, seeing this, did not even feel remorse afterward so as to believe him. | 32For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him. |
| 33"Listen to another parable. There was a landowner who PLANTED A VINEYARD AND PUT A WALL AROUND IT AND DUG A WINE PRESS IN IT, AND BUILT A TOWER, and rented it out to vine-growers and went on a journey. | 33"Listen to another parable: There was a landowner who planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, dug a winepress in it and built a watchtower. Then he rented the vineyard to some farmers and moved to another place. |

| 42Jesus said to them, "Did you never read in the Scriptures, 'THE STONE WHICH THE BUILDERS REJECTED, THIS BECAME THE CHIEF CORNER stone; THIS CAME ABOUT FROM THE LORD, AND IT IS MARVELOUS IN OUR EYES '? | 42Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the Scriptures: "'The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes'? |
| 43"Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people, producing the fruit of it. | 43"Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit. |
| 44"And he who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will scatter him like dust." | 44Anyone who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; anyone on whom it falls will be crushed." |
| 45When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard His parables, they understood that He was speaking about them. | 45When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard Jesus' parables, they knew he was talking about them. |
| 46When they sought to seize Him, they feared the people, because they considered Him to be a prophet. | 46They looked for a way to arrest him, but they were afraid of the crowd because the people held that he was a prophet. |
