| 16and said to Him, "Do You hear what these children are saying?" And Jesus said to them, "Yes; have you never read, 'OUT OF THE MOUTH OF INFANTS AND NURSING BABIES YOU HAVE PREPARED PRAISE FOR YOURSELF'?" | 16“Do you hear what these children are saying?” they asked. “Yes,” Jesus answered. “Have you never read: ‘From the mouths of children and infants You have ordained praise’?” |

| 19Seeing a lone fig tree by the road, He came to it and found nothing on it except leaves only; and He said to it, "No longer shall there ever be any fruit from you." And immediately the tree withered. |
| 20Seeing this, the disciples were amazed and asked, "How did the fig tree wither all at once?" | 20When the disciples saw this, they marveled and asked, “How did the fig tree wither so quickly?” |
| 21And Jesus answered and said to them, "Truly I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, 'Be taken up and cast into the sea,' it will happen. | 21“Truly I tell you,” Jesus replied, “if you have faith and do not doubt, not only will you do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ it will happen. |
| 22"And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive." | 22If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.” |
| 23When He entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to Him while He was teaching, and said, "By what authority are You doing these things, and who gave You this authority?" | 23When Jesus returned to the temple courts and began to teach, the chief priests and elders of the people came up to Him. “By what authority are You doing these things?” they asked. “And who gave You this authority?” |
| 24Jesus said to them, "I will also ask you one thing, which if you tell Me, I will also tell you by what authority I do these things. | 24“I will also ask you one question,” Jesus replied, “and if you answer Me, I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things. |
| 25"The baptism of John was from what source, from heaven or from men?" And they began reasoning among themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven,' He will say to us, 'Then why did you not believe him?' | 25What was the source of John’s baptism? Was it from heaven or from men?” They deliberated among themselves and said, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ He will ask, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’ |
| 26"But if we say, 'From men,' we fear the people; for they all regard John as a prophet." | 26But if we say, ‘From men,’ we are afraid of the people, for they all regard John as a prophet.” |
| 27And answering Jesus, they said, "We do not know." He also said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things. | 27So they answered, “We do not know.” And Jesus replied, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things. |
| 28"But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first and said, 'Son, go work today in the vineyard.' | 28But what do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first one and said, ‘Son, go and work today in the vineyard.’ |
| 29"And he answered, 'I will not'; but afterward he regretted it and went. | 29‘I will not,’ he replied. But later he changed his mind and went. |
| 30"The man came to the second and said the same thing; and he answered, 'I will, sir'; but he did not go. | 30Then the man went to the second son and told him the same thing. ‘I will, sir,’ he said. But he did not go. |
| 31"Which of the two did the will of his father?" They said, "The first." Jesus said to them, "Truly I say to you that the tax collectors and prostitutes will get into the kingdom of God before you. | 31Which of the two did the will of his father?” “The first,” they answered. Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God before you. |
| 32"For John came to you in the way of righteousness and you did not believe him; but the tax collectors and prostitutes did believe him; and you, seeing this, did not even feel remorse afterward so as to believe him. | 32For John came to you in a righteous way and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him. |
| 33"Listen to another parable. There was a landowner who PLANTED A VINEYARD AND PUT A WALL AROUND IT AND DUG A WINE PRESS IN IT, AND BUILT A TOWER, and rented it out to vine-growers and went on a journey. | 33Listen to another parable: There was a landowner who planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, dug a winepress in it, and built a tower. Then he rented it out to some tenants and went away on a journey. |
| 34"When the harvest time approached, he sent his slaves to the vine-growers to receive his produce. | 34When the harvest time drew near, he sent his servants to the tenants to collect his share of the fruit. |
| 35"The vine-growers took his slaves and beat one, and killed another, and stoned a third. | 35But the tenants seized his servants. They beat one, killed another, and stoned a third. |
| 36"Again he sent another group of slaves larger than the first; and they did the same thing to them. | 36Again, he sent other servants, more than the first group. But the tenants did the same to them. |
| 37"But afterward he sent his son to them, saying, 'They will respect my son.' | 37Finally, he sent his son to them. ‘They will respect my son,’ he said. |
| 38"But when the vine-growers saw the son, they said among themselves, 'This is the heir; come, let us kill him and seize his inheritance.' | 38But when the tenants saw the son, they said to one another, ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and take his inheritance.’ |
| 39"They took him, and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. | 39So they seized him and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. |
| 40"Therefore when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those vine-growers?" | 40Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard returns, what will he do to those tenants?” |
| 41They said to Him, "He will bring those wretches to a wretched end, and will rent out the vineyard to other vine-growers who will pay him the proceeds at the proper seasons." | 41“He will bring those wretches to a wretched end,” they replied, “and will rent out the vineyard to other tenants who will give him his share of the fruit at harvest time.” |
| 42Jesus said to them, "Did you never read in the Scriptures, 'THE STONE WHICH THE BUILDERS REJECTED, THIS BECAME THE CHIEF CORNER stone; THIS CAME ABOUT FROM THE LORD, AND IT IS MARVELOUS IN OUR EYES '? | 42Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures: ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. This is from the Lord, and it is marvelous in our eyes’? |
| 43"Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people, producing the fruit of it. | 43Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit. |
| 44"And he who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will scatter him like dust." | 44He who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces, but he on whom it falls will be crushed.” |
| 45When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard His parables, they understood that He was speaking about them. | 45When the chief priests and Pharisees heard His parables, they knew that Jesus was speaking about them. |
| 46When they sought to seize Him, they feared the people, because they considered Him to be a prophet. | 46Although they wanted to arrest Him, they were afraid of the crowds, because the people regarded Him as a prophet. |
