King James BibleNET Bible
To the chief Musician upon Shoshannim, A Psalm of David. Save me, O God; for the waters are come in unto my soul.1For the music director; according to the tune of "Lilies;" by David. Deliver me, O God, for the water has reached my neck.
I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing: I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me.2I sink into the deep mire where there is no solid ground; I am in deep water, and the current overpowers me.
I am weary of my crying: my throat is dried: mine eyes fail while I wait for my God.3I am exhausted from shouting for help; my throat is sore; my eyes grow tired of looking for my God.
They that hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of mine head: they that would destroy me, being mine enemies wrongfully, are mighty: then I restored that which I took not away.4Those who hate me without cause are more numerous than the hairs of my head. Those who want to destroy me, my enemies for no reason, outnumber me. They make me repay what I did not steal!
O God, thou knowest my foolishness; and my sins are not hid from thee.5O God, you are aware of my foolish sins; my guilt is not hidden from you.
Let not them that wait on thee, O Lord GOD of hosts, be ashamed for my sake: let not those that seek thee be confounded for my sake, O God of Israel.6Let none who rely on you be disgraced because of me, O sovereign LORD and king! Let none who seek you be ashamed because of me, O God of Israel!
Because for thy sake I have borne reproach; shame hath covered my face.7For I suffer humiliation for your sake and am thoroughly disgraced.
I am become a stranger unto my brethren, and an alien unto my mother's children.8My own brothers treat me like a stranger; they act as if I were a foreigner.
For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up; and the reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me.9Certainly zeal for your house consumes me; I endure the insults of those who insult you.
When I wept, and chastened my soul with fasting, that was to my reproach.10I weep and refrain from eating food, which causes others to insult me.
I made sackcloth also my garment; and I became a proverb to them.11I wear sackcloth and they ridicule me.
They that sit in the gate speak against me; and I was the song of the drunkards.12Those who sit at the city gate gossip about me; drunkards mock me in their songs.
But as for me, my prayer is unto thee, O LORD, in an acceptable time: O God, in the multitude of thy mercy hear me, in the truth of thy salvation.13O LORD, may you hear my prayer and be favorably disposed to me! O God, because of your great loyal love, answer me with your faithful deliverance!
Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink: let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters.14Rescue me from the mud! Don't let me sink! Deliver me from those who hate me, from the deep water!
Let not the waterflood overflow me, neither let the deep swallow me up, and let not the pit shut her mouth upon me.15Don't let the current overpower me! Don't let the deep swallow me up! Don't let the pit devour me!
Hear me, O LORD; for thy lovingkindness is good: turn unto me according to the multitude of thy tender mercies.16Answer me, O LORD, for your loyal love is good! Because of your great compassion, turn toward me!
And hide not thy face from thy servant; for I am in trouble: hear me speedily.17Do not ignore your servant, for I am in trouble! Answer me right away!
Draw nigh unto my soul, and redeem it: deliver me because of mine enemies.18Come near me and redeem me! Because of my enemies, rescue me!
Thou hast known my reproach, and my shame, and my dishonour: mine adversaries are all before thee.19You know how I am insulted, humiliated and disgraced; you can see all my enemies.
Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness: and I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none.20Their insults are painful and make me lose heart; I look for sympathy, but receive none, for comforters, but find none.
They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.21They put bitter poison into my food, and to quench my thirst they give me vinegar to drink.
Let their table become a snare before them: and that which should have been for their welfare, let it become a trap.22May their dining table become a trap before them! May it be a snare for that group of friends!
Let their eyes be darkened, that they see not; and make their loins continually to shake.23May their eyes be blinded! Make them shake violently!
Pour out thine indignation upon them, and let thy wrathful anger take hold of them.24Pour out your judgment on them! May your raging anger overtake them!
Let their habitation be desolate; and let none dwell in their tents.25May their camp become desolate, their tents uninhabited!
For they persecute him whom thou hast smitten; and they talk to the grief of those whom thou hast wounded.26For they harass the one whom you discipline; they spread the news about the suffering of those whom you punish.
Add iniquity unto their iniquity: and let them not come into thy righteousness.27Hold them accountable for all their sins! Do not vindicate them!
Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, and not be written with the righteous.28May their names be deleted from the scroll of the living! Do not let their names be listed with the godly!
But I am poor and sorrowful: let thy salvation, O God, set me up on high.29I am oppressed and suffering! O God, deliver and protect me!
I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.30I will sing praises to God's name! I will magnify him as I give him thanks!
This also shall please the LORD better than an ox or bullock that hath horns and hoofs.31That will please the LORD more than an ox or a bull with horns and hooves.
The humble shall see this, and be glad: and your heart shall live that seek God.32The oppressed look on--let them rejoice! You who seek God, may you be encouraged!
For the LORD heareth the poor, and despiseth not his prisoners.33For the LORD listens to the needy; he does not despise his captive people.
Let the heaven and earth praise him, the seas, and every thing that moveth therein.34Let the heavens and the earth praise him, along with the seas and everything that swims in them!
For God will save Zion, and will build the cities of Judah: that they may dwell there, and have it in possession.35For God will deliver Zion and rebuild the cities of Judah, and his people will again live in them and possess Zion.
The seed also of his servants shall inherit it: and they that love his name shall dwell therein.36The descendants of his servants will inherit it, and those who are loyal to him will live in it.
