Psalm 69
KJV Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
King James BibleNew Living Translation
To the chief Musician upon Shoshannim, A Psalm of David. Save me, O God; for the waters are come in unto my soul.1Save me, O God, for the floodwaters are up to my neck.
I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing: I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me.2Deeper and deeper I sink into the mire; I can’t find a foothold. I am in deep water, and the floods overwhelm me.
I am weary of my crying: my throat is dried: mine eyes fail while I wait for my God.3I am exhausted from crying for help; my throat is parched. My eyes are swollen with weeping, waiting for my God to help me.
They that hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of mine head: they that would destroy me, being mine enemies wrongfully, are mighty: then I restored that which I took not away.4Those who hate me without cause outnumber the hairs on my head. Many enemies try to destroy me with lies, demanding that I give back what I didn’t steal.
O God, thou knowest my foolishness; and my sins are not hid from thee.5O God, you know how foolish I am; my sins cannot be hidden from you.
Let not them that wait on thee, O Lord GOD of hosts, be ashamed for my sake: let not those that seek thee be confounded for my sake, O God of Israel.6Don’t let those who trust in you be ashamed because of me, O Sovereign LORD of Heaven’s Armies. Don’t let me cause them to be humiliated, O God of Israel.
Because for thy sake I have borne reproach; shame hath covered my face.7For I endure insults for your sake; humiliation is written all over my face.
I am become a stranger unto my brethren, and an alien unto my mother's children.8Even my own brothers pretend they don’t know me; they treat me like a stranger.
For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up; and the reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me.9Passion for your house has consumed me, and the insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.
When I wept, and chastened my soul with fasting, that was to my reproach.10When I weep and fast, they scoff at me.
I made sackcloth also my garment; and I became a proverb to them.11When I dress in burlap to show sorrow, they make fun of me.
They that sit in the gate speak against me; and I was the song of the drunkards.12I am the favorite topic of town gossip, and all the drunks sing about me.
But as for me, my prayer is unto thee, O LORD, in an acceptable time: O God, in the multitude of thy mercy hear me, in the truth of thy salvation.13But I keep praying to you, LORD, hoping this time you will show me favor. In your unfailing love, O God, answer my prayer with your sure salvation.
Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink: let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters.14Rescue me from the mud; don’t let me sink any deeper! Save me from those who hate me, and pull me from these deep waters.
Let not the waterflood overflow me, neither let the deep swallow me up, and let not the pit shut her mouth upon me.15Don’t let the floods overwhelm me, or the deep waters swallow me, or the pit of death devour me.
Hear me, O LORD; for thy lovingkindness is good: turn unto me according to the multitude of thy tender mercies.16Answer my prayers, O LORD, for your unfailing love is wonderful. Take care of me, for your mercy is so plentiful.
And hide not thy face from thy servant; for I am in trouble: hear me speedily.17Don’t hide from your servant; answer me quickly, for I am in deep trouble!
Draw nigh unto my soul, and redeem it: deliver me because of mine enemies.18Come and redeem me; free me from my enemies.
Thou hast known my reproach, and my shame, and my dishonour: mine adversaries are all before thee.19You know of my shame, scorn, and disgrace. You see all that my enemies are doing.
Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness: and I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none.20Their insults have broken my heart, and I am in despair. If only one person would show some pity; if only one would turn and comfort me.
They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.21But instead, they give me poison for food; they offer me sour wine for my thirst.
Let their table become a snare before them: and that which should have been for their welfare, let it become a trap.22Let the bountiful table set before them become a snare and their prosperity become a trap.
Let their eyes be darkened, that they see not; and make their loins continually to shake.23Let their eyes go blind so they cannot see, and make their bodies shake continually.
Pour out thine indignation upon them, and let thy wrathful anger take hold of them.24Pour out your fury on them; consume them with your burning anger.
Let their habitation be desolate; and let none dwell in their tents.25Let their homes become desolate and their tents be deserted.
For they persecute him whom thou hast smitten; and they talk to the grief of those whom thou hast wounded.26To the one you have punished, they add insult to injury; they add to the pain of those you have hurt.
Add iniquity unto their iniquity: and let them not come into thy righteousness.27Pile their sins up high, and don’t let them go free.
Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, and not be written with the righteous.28Erase their names from the Book of Life; don’t let them be counted among the righteous.
But I am poor and sorrowful: let thy salvation, O God, set me up on high.29I am suffering and in pain. Rescue me, O God, by your saving power.
I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.30Then I will praise God’s name with singing, and I will honor him with thanksgiving.
This also shall please the LORD better than an ox or bullock that hath horns and hoofs.31For this will please the LORD more than sacrificing cattle, more than presenting a bull with its horns and hooves.
The humble shall see this, and be glad: and your heart shall live that seek God.32The humble will see their God at work and be glad. Let all who seek God’s help be encouraged.
For the LORD heareth the poor, and despiseth not his prisoners.33For the LORD hears the cries of the needy; he does not despise his imprisoned people.
Let the heaven and earth praise him, the seas, and every thing that moveth therein.34Praise him, O heaven and earth, the seas and all that move in them.
For God will save Zion, and will build the cities of Judah: that they may dwell there, and have it in possession.35For God will save Jerusalem and rebuild the towns of Judah. His people will live there and settle in their own land.
The seed also of his servants shall inherit it: and they that love his name shall dwell therein.36The descendants of those who obey him will inherit the land, and those who love him will live there in safety.
