| 47While He was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, suddenly arrived. | 51At that moment one of those with Jesus reached out his hand and drew his sword. He struck the high priest's slave and cut off his ear. | 51And behold, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his ear. |

| 53Or do you think that I cannot call on My Father, and He will provide Me at once with more than 12 legions of angels? | 53Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of angels? |
| 54How, then, would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen this way?" | 54But how then should the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must be so?” |
| 55At that time Jesus said to the crowds, "Have you come out with swords and clubs, as if I were a criminal, to capture Me? Every day I used to sit, teaching in the temple complex, and you didn't arrest Me. | 55At that hour Jesus said to the crowds, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs to capture me? Day after day I sat in the temple teaching, and you did not seize me. |
| 56But all this has happened so that the prophetic Scriptures would be fulfilled." Then all the disciples deserted Him and ran away. | 56But all this has taken place that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples left him and fled. |
| 57Those who had arrested Jesus led Him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders had convened. | 57Then those who had seized Jesus led him to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders had gathered. |
| 58Meanwhile, Peter was following Him at a distance right to the high priest's courtyard. | 59The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false testimony against Jesus so they could put Him to death. | 59Now the chief priests and the whole council were seeking false testimony against Jesus that they might put him to death, |
| 60But they could not find any, even though many false witnesses came forward. Finally, two who came forward | 60but they found none, though many false witnesses came forward. At last two came forward |
| 61stated, "This man said, 'I can demolish God's sanctuary and rebuild it in three days.'" | 61and said, “This man said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to rebuild it in three days.’” |
| 62The high priest then stood up and said to Him, "Don't You have an answer to what these men are testifying against You?" | 62And the high priest stood up and said, “Have you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against you?” |
| 63But Jesus kept silent. Then the high priest said to Him, "By the living God I place You under oath: tell us if You are the Messiah, the Son of God!" | 63But Jesus remained silent. And the high priest said to him, “I adjure you by the living God, tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God.” |
| 64"You have said it," Jesus told him. "But I tell you, in the future you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of the Power and coming on the clouds of heaven." | 64Jesus said to him, “You have said so. But I tell you, from now on you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.” |
| 65Then the high priest tore his robes and said, "He has blasphemed! Why do we still need witnesses? Look, now you've heard the blasphemy! | 65Then the high priest tore his robes and said, “He has uttered blasphemy. What further witnesses do we need? You have now heard his blasphemy. |
| 66What is your decision?" They answered, "He deserves death!" | 66What is your judgment?” They answered, “He deserves death.” |

| 68and said, "Prophesy to us, Messiah! Who hit You?" | 68saying, “Prophesy to us, you Christ! Who is it that struck you?” |
| 69Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. A servant approached him and she said, "You were with Jesus the Galilean too." | 69Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. And a servant girl came up to him and said, “You also were with Jesus the Galilean.” |
| 70But he denied it in front of everyone: "I don't know what you're talking about!" | 70But he denied it before them all, saying, “I do not know what you mean.” |
| 71When he had gone out to the gateway, another woman saw him and told those who were there, "This man was with Jesus the Nazarene!" | 71And when he went out to the entrance, another servant girl saw him, and she said to the bystanders, “This man was with Jesus of Nazareth.” |

| 73After a little while those standing there approached and said to Peter, "You certainly are one of them, since even your accent gives you away." | 73After a little while the bystanders came up and said to Peter, “Certainly you too are one of them, for your accent betrays you.” |

| 75and Peter remembered the words Jesus had spoken, "Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times." And he went outside and wept bitterly. | 75And Peter remembered the saying of Jesus, “Before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.” And he went out and wept bitterly. |
