8The neighbors, and those who had seen him begging asked, “Is this not the blind man that sat and begged?” 9Some said, “This is he”; while others said, “He is like him”; but he said, “I am he”. 10Therefore they asked him, “How were your eyes opened?” 11He answered, “A Man Who is called Jesus made clay, and anointed my eyes, and told me, ‘Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash’; and so I went and washed, and I received my sight”. 12Then they asked him, “Where is He?” He said, “I don’t know.”

13Then they brought him to the Pharisees. 14And it was the Sabbath day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes. 15Then the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. He told them, “He put clay upon my eyes, I washed, and now I see.” 16Therefore some of the Pharisees said, “This Man cannot be of God, because He does not observe the Sabbath day”. But others asked, “How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles?” And so there was a divided opinion among them. 17So they again asked the blind man, “What do you say about Him? It was your eyes that He opened!” He said, “He is a prophet.” 18But the Jews still did not believe that he had been blind and received his sight, and so they called his parents. 19And they asked them, “Is this your son, who you say was born blind? How is it, then, that he now sees?” 20His parents answered, “We certainly know that this is our son, and that he was born blind; 21But by what means he now sees, we do not know; nor do we know Who has opened his eyes. He is of age; ask him; he can speak for himself”. 22His parents answered in this way because they feared the Jews; for the Jews had already announced that anyone who confessed that He was Christ (the Messiah), would be put out of the synagogue. 23Therefore his parents said, “He is of age; ask him”. 24Then they again called the man that had been blind, and said, “Give God the praise; we know that this Man is a sinner”. 25The formerly blind man answered, “Whether He is a sinner or not, I do not know; but one thing I do know: that, whereas I was blind, I now see.” 26Then they asked him again, “What did He do to you? How did He open your eyes?” 27He answered, “I have already told you, and you did you not listen? Why would you want to hear it again? Do you also want to be His disciples?” 28Then they hurled insults at him, and then said, “You are His disciple; but we are Moses' disciples. 29We know that God spoke to Moses; as for this Fellow, we do not even know where He come from.” 30The formerly blind man answered, “Why, here is a marvelous thing! You do not know where He is from; and yet He has opened my eyes. 31We know that God does not hear sinners; but if any man is a worshipper of God, and does His will, God hears him. 32Since the world began no one has ever heard of opening the eyes of someone that was born blind. 33If this Man were not from God, He could do nothing.” 34To this they retorted, “You were utterly born in sin, and do you dare to lecture us?” And they threw him out.

35Jesus heard that they had thrown him out; and when He had found him, He asked him, “Do you believe in the Son of man?” 36He replied, “Who is He, Lord, tell me that I might believe in Him?” 37And Jesus said, “You have now seen Him, and it is He Who is talking with you.” 38And he said, “Lord, I believe.” And he worshipped Him. 39And Jesus said, “For judgment I have come into this world, that the blind might see; and that those who see will become blind.” 40And some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard Jesus say these words, and said to Him, “Are You saying we are blind also?” 41Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now you say, ‘We see’; therefore, your guilt remains.”
