Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good, For His mercy is everlasting. Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever! Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.
The redeemed of the LORD shall say so, Those whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he has redeemed from trouble Let the redeemed of the LORD tell their story— those he redeemed from the hand of the foe,
And gathered from the lands, From the east and from the west, From the north and from the south. and gathered in from the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south. those he gathered from the lands, from east and west, from north and south.
They wandered in the wilderness in a desert region; They did not find a way to an inhabited city. Some wandered in desert wastes, finding no way to a city to dwell in; Some wandered in desert wastelands, finding no way to a city where they could settle.
They were hungry and thirsty; Their souls felt weak within them. hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted within them. They were hungry and thirsty, and their lives ebbed away.
Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble; He saved them from their distresses. Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress.
He also had them walk on a straight way, To go to an inhabited city. He led them by a straight way till they reached a city to dwell in. He led them by a straight way to a city where they could settle.
They shall give thanks to the LORD for His mercy, And for His wonders to the sons of mankind! Let them thank the LORD for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man! Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind,
For He has satisfied the thirsty soul, And He has filled the hungry soul with what is good. For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things. for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.
There were those who lived in darkness and in the shadow of death, Prisoners in misery and chains, Some sat in darkness and in the shadow of death, prisoners in affliction and in irons, Some sat in darkness, in utter darkness, prisoners suffering in iron chains,
Because they had rebelled against the words of God And rejected the plan of the Most High. for they had rebelled against the words of God, and spurned the counsel of the Most High. because they rebelled against God’s commands and despised the plans of the Most High.
Therefore He humbled their heart with labor; They stumbled and there was no one to help. So he bowed their hearts down with hard labor; they fell down, with none to help. So he subjected them to bitter labor; they stumbled, and there was no one to help.
Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble; He saved them from their distresses. Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress.
He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death And broke their bands apart. He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and burst their bonds apart. He brought them out of darkness, the utter darkness, and broke away their chains.
They shall give thanks to the LORD for His mercy, And for His wonders to the sons of mankind! Let them thank the LORD for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man! Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind,
For He has shattered gates of bronze And cut off bars of iron. For he shatters the doors of bronze and cuts in two the bars of iron. for he breaks down gates of bronze and cuts through bars of iron.
Fools, because of their rebellious way, And because of their guilty deeds, were afflicted. Some were fools through their sinful ways, and because of their iniquities suffered affliction; Some became fools through their rebellious ways and suffered affliction because of their iniquities.
Their souls loathed all kinds of food, And they came close to the gates of death. they loathed any kind of food, and they drew near to the gates of death. They loathed all food and drew near the gates of death.
Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble; He saved them from their distresses. Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress.
He sent His word and healed them, And saved them from their destruction. He sent out his word and healed them, and delivered them from their destruction. He sent out his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave.
They shall give thanks to the LORD for His mercy, And for His wonders to the sons of mankind! Let them thank the LORD for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man! Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind.
They shall also offer sacrifices of thanksgiving, And tell of His works with joyful singing. And let them offer sacrifices of thanksgiving, and tell of his deeds in songs of joy! Let them sacrifice thank offerings and tell of his works with songs of joy.
Those who go down to the sea in ships, Who do business on great waters; Some went down to the sea in ships, doing business on the great waters; Some went out on the sea in ships; they were merchants on the mighty waters.
They have seen the works of the LORD, And His wonders in the deep. they saw the deeds of the LORD, his wondrous works in the deep. They saw the works of the LORD, his wonderful deeds in the deep.
For He spoke and raised a stormy wind, Which lifted the waves of the sea. For he commanded and raised the stormy wind, which lifted up the waves of the sea. For he spoke and stirred up a tempest that lifted high the waves.
They rose up to the heavens, they went down to the depths; Their soul melted away in their misery. They mounted up to heaven; they went down to the depths; their courage melted away in their evil plight; They mounted up to the heavens and went down to the depths; in their peril their courage melted away.
They reeled and staggered like a drunken person, And were at their wits’ end. they reeled and staggered like drunken men and were at their wits’ end. They reeled and staggered like drunkards; they were at their wits’ end.
Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, And He brought them out of their distresses. Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and he brought them out of their distress.
He caused the storm to be still, So that the waves of the sea were hushed. He made the storm be still, and the waves of the sea were hushed. He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed.
Then they were glad because they were quiet, So He guided them to their desired harbor. Then they were glad that the waters were quiet, and he brought them to their desired haven. They were glad when it grew calm, and he guided them to their desired haven.
They shall give thanks to the LORD for His mercy, And for His wonders to the sons of mankind! Let them thank the LORD for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man! Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind.
They shall also exalt Him in the congregation of the people, And praise Him at the seat of the elders. Let them extol him in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the elders. Let them exalt him in the assembly of the people and praise him in the council of the elders.
He turns rivers into a wilderness, And springs of water into a thirsty ground; He turns rivers into a desert, springs of water into thirsty ground, He turned rivers into a desert, flowing springs into thirsty ground,
And a fruitful land into a salt waste, Because of the wickedness of those who dwell in it. a fruitful land into a salty waste, because of the evil of its inhabitants. and fruitful land into a salt waste, because of the wickedness of those who lived there.
He turns a wilderness into a pool of water, And a dry land into springs of water; He turns a desert into pools of water, a parched land into springs of water. He turned the desert into pools of water and the parched ground into flowing springs;
And He has the hungry live there, So that they may establish an inhabited city, And there he lets the hungry dwell, and they establish a city to live in; there he brought the hungry to live, and they founded a city where they could settle.
And sow fields and plant vineyards, And gather a fruitful harvest. they sow fields and plant vineyards and get a fruitful yield. They sowed fields and planted vineyards that yielded a fruitful harvest;
He also blesses them and they multiply greatly, And He does not let their cattle decrease. By his blessing they multiply greatly, and he does not let their livestock diminish. he blessed them, and their numbers greatly increased, and he did not let their herds diminish.
When they become few and lowly Because of oppression, misery, and sorrow, When they are diminished and brought low through oppression, evil, and sorrow, Then their numbers decreased, and they were humbled by oppression, calamity and sorrow;
He pours contempt upon noblemen And makes them wander in a pathless wasteland. he pours contempt on princes and makes them wander in trackless wastes; he who pours contempt on nobles made them wander in a trackless waste.
But He sets the needy securely on high, away from affliction, And makes his families like a flock. but he raises up the needy out of affliction and makes their families like flocks. But he lifted the needy out of their affliction and increased their families like flocks.
The upright see it and are glad; But all injustice shuts its mouth. The upright see it and are glad, and all wickedness shuts its mouth. The upright see and rejoice, but all the wicked shut their mouths.
Who is wise? He is to pay attention to these things, And consider the mercy of the LORD. Whoever is wise, let him attend to these things; let them consider the steadfast love of the LORD. Let the one who is wise heed these things and ponder the loving deeds of the LORD.
