1	And Iesus aunswered, and spake vnto them againe by parables, and sayde:	And again Jesus spoke to them in parables, saying,	Jesus spoke to them again in parables, saying:
2	The kyngdome of heauen is lyke vnto a man that was a kyng, which made a mariage for his sonne.	“The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son,	“The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son.
3	And sent foorth his seruauntes, to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they woulde not come.	and sent his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding feast, but they would not come.	He sent his servants to those who had been invited to the banquet to tell them to come, but they refused to come.
4	Agayne, he sent foorth other seruauntes, saying: Tell them which are bidden, beholde, I haue prepared my dinner, my oxen and my fatlynges are kylled, and all thynges are redy: come vnto the mariage.	Again he sent other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited, “See, I have prepared my dinner, my oxen and my fat calves have been slaughtered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding feast.”’	“Then he sent some more servants and said, ‘Tell those who have been invited that I have prepared my dinner: My oxen and fattened cattle have been butchered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet.’
5	But they made lyght of it, and went their wayes, one to his farme, another to his marchaundize:	But they paid no attention and went off, one to his farm, another to his business,	“But they paid no attention and went off—one to his field, another to his business.
6	And the remnaunt toke his seruauntes, and entreated them spitefully, and slewe them.	while the rest seized his servants, treated them shamefully, and killed them.	The rest seized his servants, mistreated them and killed them.
7	But when the kyng hearde therof , he was wroth, and sent foorth his men of warre, and destroyed those murtherers and brent vp their citie. 8	Then sayde he to his seruauntes, the mariage in dede is prepared: But they which were bidden, were not worthy. 9	Go ye therfore out into the hye wayes: and as many as ye fynde, bid them to the mariage.	Go therefore to the main roads and invite to the wedding feast as many as you find.’	So go to the street corners and invite to the banquet anyone you find.’
10	And the seruauntes went out into the hye wayes, and gathered together all, as many as they coulde fynde, both good and bad: and the weddyng was furnished with ghestes.	And those servants went out into the roads and gathered all whom they found, both bad and good. So the wedding hall was filled with guests.	So the servants went out into the streets and gathered all the people they could find, the bad as well as the good, and the wedding hall was filled with guests.
11	Then the kyng came in, to see the ghestes: and whe he spyed there a man, which had not on a weddyng garmet,	“But when the king came in to look at the guests, he saw there a man who had no wedding garment.	“But when the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes.
12	He sayde vnto hym: frende, howe camest thou in hyther, not hauyng a weddyng garment? And he was euen speachlesse.	And he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you get in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless.	He asked, ‘How did you get in here without wedding clothes, friend?’ The man was speechless.
13	Then sayde the kyng to the ministers: bynde hym hande and foote, and cast hym into vtter darknesse: there shalbe wepyng and gnasshyng of teeth.	Then the king said to the attendants, ‘Bind him hand and foot and cast him into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’	“Then the king told the attendants, ‘Tie him hand and foot, and throw him outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
14	For many be called, but fewe are chosen.	For many are called, but few are chosen.”	“For many are invited, but few are chosen.”
15	Then went the Pharisees, and toke councell how they myght intangle hym in his talke.	Then the Pharisees went and plotted how to entangle him in his words.	Then the Pharisees went out and laid plans to trap him in his words.
16	And they sent out vnto hym their disciples, with the Herodians seruauntes, saying: Maister, we knowe that thou art true, and teachest the way of God truely, neither carest thou for any man: for thou doest not respect mens persons.	And they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that you are true and teach the way of God truthfully, and you do not care about anyone’s opinion, for you are not swayed by appearances.	They sent their disciples to him along with the Herodians. “Teacher,” they said, “we know that you are a man of integrity and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You aren’t swayed by others, because you pay no attention to who they are.
17	Tell vs therfore, howe thynkest thou? Is it lawfull that tribute be geuen vnto Caesar, or not?	Tell us, then, what you think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”	Tell us then, what is your opinion? Is it right to pay the imperial tax to Caesar or not?”
18	But Iesus perceauyng their wickednesse, sayde: Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites?	But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, “Why put me to the test, you hypocrites?	But Jesus, knowing their evil intent, said, “You hypocrites, why are you trying to trap me?
19	Shewe me the tribute money. And they brought vnto hym a peny.	Show me the coin for the tax.” And they brought him a denarius.	Show me the coin used for paying the tax.” They brought him a denarius,
20	And he sayde to them: whose is this image and superscription?	And Jesus said to them, “Whose likeness and inscription is this?”	and he asked them, “Whose image is this? And whose inscription?”
21	They say vnto hym, Caesars. Then sayde he vnto them: Geue therfore vnto Caesar, the thynges which are Caesars: and vnto God, those thynges that are gods.	They said, “Caesar’s.” Then he said to them, “Therefore render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”	“Caesar’s,” they replied. Then he said to them, “So give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.”
22	When they had hearde these wordes they marueyled, and left hym, and went their way.	When they heard it, they marveled. And they left him and went away.	When they heard this, they were amazed. So they left him and went away.
23	The same day came to hym the Saducees, which say that there is no resurrection, and asked hym,	The same day Sadducees came to him, who say that there is no resurrection, and they asked him a question,	That same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him with a question.
24	Saying: Maister, Moyses sayde, that if a man dye, hauing no childre, his brother shoulde mary his wyfe, and rayse vp seede vnto his brother.	saying, “Teacher, Moses said, ‘If a man dies having no children, his brother must marry the widow and raise up offspring for his brother.’	“Teacher,” they said, “Moses told us that if a man dies without having children, his brother must marry the widow and raise up offspring for him.
25	Ther were with vs seuen brethren, and the first maryed a wyfe, and deceassed without issue, and left his wyfe vnto his brother.	Now there were seven brothers among us. The first married and died, and having no offspring left his wife to his brother.	Now there were seven brothers among us. The first one married and died, and since he had no children, he left his wife to his brother.
26	Likewyse, the seconde, and the thirde, vnto the seuenth.	So too the second and third, down to the seventh.	The same thing happened to the second and third brother, right on down to the seventh.
27	Last of all, the woman dyed also.	After them all, the woman died.	Finally, the woman died.
28	Therfore, in the resurrection, whose wyfe shall she be of the seuen? For they all had her.	In the resurrection, therefore, of the seven, whose wife will she be? For they all had her.”	Now then, at the resurrection, whose wife will she be of the seven, since all of them were married to her?”
29	Iesus aunswered & sayde vnto them: ye do erre, not knowyng the Scriptures, nor the power of God.	But Jesus answered them, “You are wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God.	Jesus replied, “You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God.
30	For in the resurrection, they neither mary, nor are geuen in maryage: but are as the Angels of God in heauen.	For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.	At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.
31	But as touchyng the resurrection of the dead: haue ye not read that which is spoken vnto you of God, which sayth.	And as for the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was said to you by God:	But about the resurrection of the dead—have you not read what God said to you,
32	I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Iacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the lyuyng.	‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not God of the dead, but of the living.”	I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not the God of the dead but of the living.”
33	And when the multitudes hearde this, they were astonyed at his doctrine.	And when the crowd heard it, they were astonished at his teaching.	When the crowds heard this, they were astonished at his teaching.
34	But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Saducees to silence, they came together.	But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together.	Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together.
35	And one of them, which was a lawyer, asked hym a question, temptyng hym, and saying:	And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him.	One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question:
36	Maister, which is the great commaundent in the lawe?	“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?”	“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
37	Iesus sayde vnto hym: Thou shalt loue the Lorde thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soule, and with all thy mynde.	And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.	Jesus replied: “’Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’
38	This is the first and great commaundement.	This is the great and first commandment.	This is the first and greatest commandment.
39	And the seconde is lyke vnto this. Thou shalt loue thy neyghbour as thy selfe.	And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.	And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
40	In these two commaundementes, hang all the lawe and the prophetes.	On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”	All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
41	Whyle the Pharisees were gathered together, Iesus asked them,	Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question,	While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,
42	Saying: what thynke ye of Christe? whose sonne is he? They sayde vnto hym the sonne of Dauid.	saying, “What do you think about the Christ? Whose son is he?” They said to him, “The son of David.”	“What do you think about the Messiah? Whose son is he?” “The son of David,” they replied.
43	He sayde vnto them: howe then doth Dauid in spirite call him Lorde, saying:	He said to them, “How is it then that David, in the Spirit, calls him Lord, saying,	He said to them, “How is it then that David, speaking by the Spirit, calls him ‘Lord’? For he says,
44	The Lorde sayd vnto my Lorde: sit thou on my ryght hande, tyll I make thyne enemyes thy footestoole?	“‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand, until I put your enemies under your feet”’?	“’The Lord said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet.\|’
45	If Dauid then call him Lorde, howe is he then his sonne?	If then David calls him Lord, how is he his son?”	If then David calls him ‘Lord,’ how can he be his son?”
46	And no man was able to aunswere hym a worde: neither durst any man (from that day foorth) aske hym any mo questions.	And no one was able to answer him a word, nor from that day did anyone dare to ask him any more questions.	No one could say a word in reply, and from that day on no one dared to ask him any more questions.
