1	And in that day Jesus, having gone forth from the house, was sitting by the sea,	That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat beside the sea.	That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the lake.
2	and gathered together to Him were many multitudes, so that He having gone into the boat sat down, and all the multitude on the beach stood,	And great crowds gathered about him, so that he got into a boat and sat down. And the whole crowd stood on the beach.	Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat in it, while all the people stood on the shore.
3	and He spoke to them many things in allegories, saying, “Behold, the sower went forth to sow,	And he told them many things in parables, saying: “A sower went out to sow.	Then he told them many things in parables, saying: “A farmer went out to sow his seed.
4	and in his sowing, some indeed fell by the way, and the birds having come, devoured them,	And as he sowed, some seeds fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured them.	As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up.
5	and others fell on the rocky places where they did not have much earth, and immediately they sprang forth, through having no depth of earth,	Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and immediately they sprang up, since they had no depth of soil,	Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow.
6	and the sun having risen they were scorched, and through having no root, they withered,	but when the sun rose they were scorched. And since they had no root, they withered away.	But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root.
7	and others fell on the thorns, and the thorns came up and choked them,	Other seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them.	Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants.
8	and others fell on the good ground, and were giving fruit, some indeed a hundredfold, and some sixty, and some thirty.	Other seeds fell on good soil and produced grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.	Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.
9	He who is having ears to hear—let him hear.”	He who has ears, let him hear.”	Whoever has ears, let them hear.”
10	And the disciples having come near, said to Him, “Why do You speak to them in allegories?”	Then the disciples came and said to him, “Why do you speak to them in parables?”	The disciples came to him and asked, “Why do you speak to the people in parables?”
11	And He answering said to them that, “To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of the heavens, and to these it has not been given,	And he answered them, “To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given.	He replied, “Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them.
12	for whoever has, it will be given to him, and he will have overabundance, and whoever has not, even that which he has will be taken from him.	For to the one who has, more will be given, and he will have an abundance, but from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.	Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.
13	Because of this, in allegories I speak to them, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor understand,	This is why I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.	This is why I speak to them in parables: “Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand.
14	and fulfilled on them is the prophecy of Isaiah that says, With hearing you will hear, and you will not understand, and seeing you will see, and you will not perceive,	Indeed, in their case the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled that says: “‘“You will indeed hear but never understand, and you will indeed see but never perceive.”	In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah: “’You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.
15	for the heart of this people was made obtuse, and with the ears they barely heard, and they closed their eyes, lest they might see with the eyes, and might hear with the ears, and understand with the heart, and turn back, and I might heal them.	For this people’s heart has grown dull, and with their ears they can barely hear, and their eyes they have closed, lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and turn, and I would heal them.’	For this people’s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.’
16	And blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear,	But blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear.	But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear.
17	for truly I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see that which you look on, and they did not see, and to hear that which you hear, and they did not hear.	For truly, I say to you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.	For truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.
18	You, therefore, hear the allegory of the sower:	“Hear then the parable of the sower:	“Listen then to what the parable of the sower means:
19	Everyone hearing the word of the kingdom, and not understanding—the evil one comes, and snatches that which has been sown in his heart; this is that sown by the way.	When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is what was sown along the path.	When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart. This is the seed sown along the path.
20	And that sown on the rocky places, this is he who is hearing the word, and immediately with joy is receiving it,	As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy,	The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy.
21	and he has no root in himself, but is temporary, and persecution or tribulation having happened because of the word, immediately he is stumbled.	yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while, and when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately he falls away.	But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away.
22	And that sown toward the thorns, this is he who is hearing the word, and the anxiety of this age, and the deceitfulness of the riches, chokes the word, and it becomes unfruitful.	As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful.	The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, making it unfruitful.
23	And that sown on the good ground: this is he who is hearing the word, and is understanding, who indeed bears fruit, and makes, some indeed a hundredfold, and some sixty, and some thirty.”	As for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it. He indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty.”	But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.”
24	Another allegory He set before them, saying, “The kingdom of the heavens was likened to a man sowing good seed in his field,	He put another parable before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field,	Jesus told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field.
25	and while men are sleeping, his enemy came and sowed darnel in the midst of the wheat, and went away,	but while his men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went away.	But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away.
26	and when the herb sprang up, and yielded fruit, then appeared also the darnel.	So when the plants came up and bore grain, then the weeds appeared also.	When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also appeared.
27	And the servants of the householder, having come near, said to him, Lord, did you not sow good seed in your field? From where then does it have the darnel?	And the servants of the master of the house came and said to him, ‘Master, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have weeds?’	“The owner’s servants came to him and said, ‘Sir, didn’t you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?’
28	And he says to them, A man, an enemy, did this; and the servants said to him, Will you, then, [that] having gone away we may gather it up?	He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’ So the servants said to him, ‘Then do you want us to go and gather them?’	“’An enemy did this,’ he replied. “The servants asked him, ‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’
29	And he said, No, lest—gathering up the darnel—you root up with it the wheat;	But he said, ‘No, lest in gathering the weeds you root up the wheat along with them.	“’No,’ he answered, ‘because while you are pulling the weeds, you may uproot the wheat with them.
30	permit both to grow together until the harvest, and in the time of the harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather up first the darnel, and bind it in bundles, to burn it, and the wheat gather up into my storehouse.”	Let both grow together until the harvest, and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, “Gather the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat into my barn.”’”	Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.’”
31	Another allegory He set before them, saying, “The kingdom of the heavens is like to a grain of mustard, which a man having taken, sowed in his field,	He put another parable before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his field.	He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field.
32	which less, indeed, is than all the seeds, but when it may be grown, is greatest of the herbs, and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the sky come and rest in its branches.”	It is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is larger than all the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.”	Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.”
33	Another allegory He spoke to them: “The kingdom of the heavens is like to leaven, which a woman having taken, hid in three measures of meal, until the whole was leavened.”	He told them another parable. “The kingdom of heaven is like leaven that a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, till it was all leavened.”	He told them still another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into about sixty pounds of flour until it worked all through the dough.”
34	All these things Jesus spoke in allegories to the multitudes, and without an allegory He was not speaking to them,	All these things Jesus said to the crowds in parables; indeed, he said nothing to them without a parable.	Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; he did not say anything to them without using a parable.
35	that it might be fulfilled that was spoken through the prophet, saying, “I will open in allegories My mouth, \|\| I will utter things having been hidden from the foundation of the world.”	This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet: “I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter what has been hidden since the foundation of the world.”	So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophet: “I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter things hidden since the creation of the world.”
36	Then having let away the multitudes, Jesus came into the house, and His disciples came near to Him, saying, “Explain to us the allegory of the darnel of the field.”	Then he left the crowds and went into the house. And his disciples came to him, saying, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds of the field.”	Then he left the crowd and went into the house. His disciples came to him and said, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field.”
37	And He answering said to them, “He who is sowing the good seed is the Son of Man,	He answered, “The one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man.	He answered, “The one who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man.
38	and the field is the world, and the good seed, these are the sons of the kingdom, and the darnel are the sons of the evil one,	The field is the world, and the good seed is the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one,	The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the people of the kingdom. The weeds are the people of the evil one,
39	and the enemy who sowed them is the Devil, and the harvest is [the] full end of the age, and the reapers are messengers.	and the enemy who sowed them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are angels.	and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels.
40	As, then, the darnel is gathered up, and is burned with fire, so will it be in the full end of this age;	Just as the weeds are gathered and burned with fire, so will it be at the end of the age.	“As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age.
41	the Son of Man will send forth His messengers, and they will gather up out of His kingdom all the stumbling-blocks, and those doing the lawlessness,	The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom all causes of sin and all law-breakers,	The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil.
42	and will cast them into the furnace of the fire; there will be the weeping and the gnashing of the teeth.	and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.	They will throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
43	Then will the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who is having ears to hear—let him hear. Whoever has ears, let them hear.
44	Again, the kingdom of the heavens is like to treasure hid in the field, which a man having found, hid, and from his joy goes, and all, as much as he has, he sells, and buys that field.	“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.	“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.
45	Again, the kingdom of the heavens is like to a man, a merchant, seeking good pearls,	“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls,	“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls.
46	who having found one pearl of great price, having gone away, has sold all, as much as he had, and bought it.	who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it.	When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.
47	Again, the kingdom of the heavens is like to a net that was cast into the sea, and gathered together of every kind,	“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was thrown into the sea and gathered fish of every kind.	“Once again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds of fish.
48	which, when it was filled, having drawn up again on the beach, and having sat down, they gathered the good into vessels, and the bad they cast out,	When it was full, men drew it ashore and sat down and sorted the good into containers but threw away the bad.	When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away.
49	so will it be in the full end of the age, the messengers will come forth and separate the evil out of the midst of the righteous,	So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous	This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous
50	and will cast them into the furnace of the fire; there will be the weeping and the gnashing of the teeth.”	and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.	and throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
51	Jesus says to them, “Did you understand all these?” They say to Him, “Yes, Lord.”	“Have you understood all these things?” They said to him, “Yes.”	“Have you understood all these things?” Jesus asked. “Yes,” they replied.
52	And He said to them, “Because of this, every scribe having been discipled in regard to the kingdom of the heavens is like to a man, a householder, who brings forth out of his treasure things new and old.”	And he said to them, “Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house, who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old.”	He said to them, “Therefore every teacher of the law who has become a disciple in the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house who brings out of his storeroom new treasures as well as old.”
53	And it came to pass, when Jesus finished these allegories, He removed from there,	And when Jesus had finished these parables, he went away from there,	When Jesus had finished these parables, he moved on from there.
54	and having come to His own country, He was teaching them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and were saying, “From where to this One this wisdom and the mighty works?	and coming to his hometown he taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and said, “Where did this man get this wisdom and these mighty works?	Coming to his hometown, he began teaching the people in their synagogue, and they were amazed. “Where did this man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers?” they asked.
55	Is this not the carpenter’s Son? Is His mother not called Mary, and His brothers James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas?	Is not this the carpenter’s son? Is not his mother called Mary? And are not his brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas?	“Isn’t this the carpenter’s son? Isn’t his mother’s name Mary, and aren’t his brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judas?
56	And His sisters—are they not all with us? From where, then, to this One all these?”	And are not all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?”	Aren’t all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?”
57	And they were stumbled at Him. And Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own country, and in his own house”:	And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and in his own household.”	And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town and in his own home.”
58	and He did not do many mighty works there, because of their unbelief.	And he did not do many mighty works there, because of their unbelief.	And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith.
