Καὶ καταβαινόντων αὐτῶν ἐκ τοῦ ὄρους διεστείλατο αὐτοῖς ἵνα μηδενὶ εἶδον διηγήσωνται εἰ μὴ ὅταν Υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐκ νεκρῶν ἀναστῇ And as they were coming down the mountain, he charged them to tell no one what they had seen, until the Son of Man had risen from the dead. As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus gave them orders not to tell anyone what they had seen until the Son of Man had risen from the dead.
καὶ τὸν λόγον ἐκράτησαν πρὸς ἑαυτοὺς συζητοῦντες τί ἐστιν τὸ ἐκ νεκρῶν ἀναστῆναι So they kept the matter to themselves, questioning what this rising from the dead might mean. They kept the matter to themselves, discussing what “rising from the dead” meant.
καὶ ἐπηρώτων αὐτὸν λέγοντες Ὅτι Λέγουσιν οἱ γραμματεῖς ὅτι Ἠλίαν δεῖ ἐλθεῖν πρῶτον And they asked him, “Why do the scribes say that first Elijah must come?” And they asked him, “Why do the teachers of the law say that Elijah must come first?”
δὲ ἔφη αὐτοῖς Ἠλίας μὲν ἐλθὼν πρῶτον ἀποκαθιστάνει πάντα καὶ πῶς γέγραπται ἐπὶ τὸν Υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἵνα πολλὰ πάθῃ καὶ ἐξουδενηθῇ And he said to them, “Elijah does come first to restore all things. And how is it written of the Son of Man that he should suffer many things and be treated with contempt? Jesus replied, “To be sure, Elijah does come first, and restores all things. Why then is it written that the Son of Man must suffer much and be rejected?
ἀλλὰ λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι καὶ Ἠλίας ἐλήλυθεν καὶ ἐποίησαν αὐτῷ ὅσα ἤθελον καθὼς γέγραπται ἐπ’ αὐτόν But I tell you that Elijah has come, and they did to him whatever they pleased, as it is written of him.” But I tell you, Elijah has come, and they have done to him everything they wished, just as it is written about him.”
