1 In those days the multitude being very great, and not having what they may eat, Jesus having called near His disciples, says to them, In those days, when again a great crowd had gathered, and they had nothing to eat, he called his disciples to him and said to them, During those days another large crowd gathered. Since they had nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples to him and said,
2 “I have compassion on the multitude, because now three days they continue with Me, and they have not what they may eat; “I have compassion on the crowd, because they have been with me now three days and have nothing to eat. “I have compassion for these people; they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat.
3 and if I will let them away fasting to their home, they will faint in the way, for certain of them are come from far.” And if I send them away hungry to their homes, they will faint on the way. And some of them have come from far away.” If I send them home hungry, they will collapse on the way, because some of them have come a long distance.”
4 And His disciples answered Him, “From where will anyone be able to feed these here in a wilderness with bread?” And his disciples answered him, “How can one feed these people with bread here in this desolate place?” His disciples answered, “But where in this remote place can anyone get enough bread to feed them?”
5 And He was questioning them, “How many loaves do you have?” And they said, “Seven.” And he asked them, “How many loaves do you have?” They said, “Seven.” “How many loaves do you have?” Jesus asked. “Seven,” they replied.
6 And He commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground, and having taken the seven loaves, having given thanks, He broke, and was giving to His disciples that they may set before [them]; and they set before the multitude. And he directed the crowd to sit down on the ground. And he took the seven loaves, and having given thanks, he broke them and gave them to his disciples to set before the people; and they set them before the crowd. He told the crowd to sit down on the ground. When he had taken the seven loaves and given thanks, he broke them and gave them to his disciples to distribute to the people, and they did so.
7 And they had a few small fishes, and having blessed, He said to set them also before [them]; And they had a few small fish. And having blessed them, he said that these also should be set before them. They had a few small fish as well; he gave thanks for them also and told the disciples to distribute them.
8 and they ate and were filled, and they took up that which was over of broken pieces—seven baskets; And they ate and were satisfied. And they took up the broken pieces left over, seven baskets full. The people ate and were satisfied. Afterward the disciples picked up seven basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.
9 and those eating were about four thousand. And He let them away, And there were about four thousand people. And he sent them away. About four thousand were present. After he had sent them away,
10 and immediately having entered into the boat with His disciples, He came to the parts of Dalmanutha, And immediately he got into the boat with his disciples and went to the district of Dalmanutha. he got into the boat with his disciples and went to the region of Dalmanutha.
11 and the Pharisees came forth, and began to dispute with Him, seeking from Him a sign from Heaven, tempting Him; The Pharisees came and began to argue with him, seeking from him a sign from heaven to test him. 12 and having sighed deeply in His spirit, He says, “Why does this generation seek after a sign? Truly I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation.” And he sighed deeply in his spirit and said, “Why does this generation seek a sign? Truly, I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation.” He sighed deeply and said, “Why does this generation ask for a sign? Truly I tell you, no sign will be given to it.”
13 And having left them, having entered again into the boat, He went away to the other side; And he left them, got into the boat again, and went to the other side. Then he left them, got back into the boat and crossed to the other side.
14 and they forgot to take loaves, and except one loaf they had nothing with them in the boat, Now they had forgotten to bring bread, and they had only one loaf with them in the boat. The disciples had forgotten to bring bread, except for one loaf they had with them in the boat.
15 and He was charging them, saying, “Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod,” And he cautioned them, saying, “Watch out; beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.” “Be careful,” Jesus warned them. “Watch out for the yeast of the Pharisees and that of Herod.”
16 and they were reasoning with one another, saying, “Because we have no loaves.” And they began discussing with one another the fact that they had no bread. They discussed this with one another and said, “It is because we have no bread.”
17 And Jesus having known, says to them, “Why do you reason, because you have no loaves? Do you not yet perceive, nor understand, yet have you hardened your heart? And Jesus, aware of this, said to them, “Why are you discussing the fact that you have no bread? Do you not yet perceive or understand? Are your hearts hardened? Aware of their discussion, Jesus asked them: “Why are you talking about having no bread? Do you still not see or understand? Are your hearts hardened?
18 Having eyes, do you not see? And having ears, do you not hear? And do you not remember? Having eyes do you not see, and having ears do you not hear? And do you not remember? Do you have eyes but fail to see, and ears but fail to hear? And don’t you remember?
19 When I broke the five loaves to the five thousand, how many hand-baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?” They say to Him, “Twelve.” When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?” They said to him, “Twelve.” When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many basketfuls of pieces did you pick up?” “Twelve,” they replied.
20 “And when the seven to the four thousand, how many hand-baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?” And they said, “Seven.” “And the seven for the four thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?” And they said to him, “Seven.” “And when I broke the seven loaves for the four thousand, how many basketfuls of pieces did you pick up?” They answered, “Seven.”
21 And He said to them, “How do you not understand?” And he said to them, “Do you not yet understand?” He said to them, “Do you still not understand?”
22 And He comes to Bethsaida, and they bring to Him one blind, and call on Him that He may touch him, And they came to Bethsaida. And some people brought to him a blind man and begged him to touch him. They came to Bethsaida, and some people brought a blind man and begged Jesus to touch him.
23 and having taken the hand of the blind man, He led him forth outside the village, and having spit on his eyes, having put [His] hands on him, He was questioning him if he beholds anything: And he took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the village, and when he had spit on his eyes and laid his hands on him, he asked him, “Do you see anything?” He took the blind man by the hand and led him outside the village. When he had spit on the man’s eyes and put his hands on him, Jesus asked, “Do you see anything?”
24 and he, having looked up, said, “I behold men, as I see trees, walking.” And he looked up and said, “I see people, but they look like trees, walking.” He looked up and said, “I see people; they look like trees walking around.”
25 Afterward again He put [His] hands on his eyes, and made him look up, and he was restored, and discerned all things clearly, Then Jesus laid his hands on his eyes again; and he opened his eyes, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly. Once more Jesus put his hands on the man’s eyes. Then his eyes were opened, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly.
26 and He sent him away to his house, saying, “Neither may you go into the village, nor tell [it] to any in the village.” And he sent him to his home, saying, “Do not even enter the village.” Jesus sent him home, saying, “Don’t even go into the village.”
27 And Jesus went forth, and His disciples, into the villages of Caesarea Philippi, and in the way He was questioning His disciples, saying to them, “Who do men say I am?” And Jesus went on with his disciples to the villages of Caesarea Philippi. And on the way he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that I am?” Jesus and his disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked them, “Who do people say I am?”
28 And they answered, “John the Immerser, and others Elijah, but others one of the prophets.” And they told him, “John the Baptist; and others say, Elijah; and others, one of the prophets.” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets.”
29 And He says to them, “And you—who do you say I am?” And Peter answering says to him, “You are the Christ.” And he asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered him, “You are the Christ.” “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Peter answered, “You are the Messiah.”
30 And He strictly charged them that they may tell no one about it, And he strictly charged them to tell no one about him. Jesus warned them not to tell anyone about him.
31 and began to teach them that it is necessary for the Son of Man to suffer many things, and to be rejected by the elders, and chief priests, and scribes, and to be killed, and to rise again after three days; And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed, and after three days rise again. 33 and He, having turned, and having looked on His disciples, rebuked Peter, saying, “Get behind Me, Satan, because you do not mind the things of God, but the things of men.” But turning and seeing his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, “Get behind me, Satan! For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.” But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. “Get behind me, Satan!” he said. “You do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”
34 And having called near the multitude, with His disciples, He said to them, “Whoever wills to come after Me—let him disown himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me; And calling the crowd to him with his disciples, he said to them, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.
35 for whoever may will to save his life will lose it; and whoever may lose his life for My sake and for the good news’ sake, he will save it; For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel’s will save it. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it.
36 for what will it profit a man, if he may gain the whole world, and forfeit his life? For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?
37 Or what will a man give as an exchange for his life? For what can a man give in return for his soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?
38 For whoever may be ashamed of Me, and of My words, in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He may come in the glory of His Father with the holy messengers.” For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.” If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”
