1 In those days there was again a large crowd, and they had nothing to eat. He called the disciples and said to them, In those days, when again a great crowd had gathered, and they had nothing to eat, he called his disciples to him and said to them, During those days another large crowd gathered. Since they had nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples to him and said,
2 “I have compassion on the crowd, because they’ve already stayed with me three days and have nothing to eat. “I have compassion on the crowd, because they have been with me now three days and have nothing to eat. “I have compassion for these people; they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat.
3 If I send them home hungry, they will collapse on the way, and some of them have come a long distance.” And if I send them away hungry to their homes, they will faint on the way. 4 His disciples answered him, “Where can anyone get enough bread here in this desolate place to feed these people? ” And his disciples answered him, “How can one feed these people with bread here in this desolate place?” His disciples answered, “But where in this remote place can anyone get enough bread to feed them?”
5 “How many loaves do you have? ” he asked them. “Seven,” they said. And he asked them, “How many loaves do you have?” They said, “Seven.” “How many loaves do you have?” Jesus asked. “Seven,” they replied.
6 He commanded the crowd to sit down on the ground. Taking the seven loaves, he gave thanks, broke them, and gave them to his disciples to set before the people. So they served them to the crowd. And he directed the crowd to sit down on the ground. And he took the seven loaves, and having given thanks, he broke them and gave them to his disciples to set before the people; and they set them before the crowd. He told the crowd to sit down on the ground. When he had taken the seven loaves and given thanks, he broke them and gave them to his disciples to distribute to the people, and they did so.
7 They also had a few small fish, and after he had blessed them, he said these were to be served as well. And they had a few small fish. 17 Aware of this, he said to them, “Why are you discussing the fact you have no bread? Don’t you understand or comprehend? Do you have hardened hearts? And Jesus, aware of this, said to them, “Why are you discussing the fact that you have no bread? Do you not yet perceive or understand? Are your hearts hardened? Aware of their discussion, Jesus asked them: “Why are you talking about having no bread? Do you still not see or understand? Are your hearts hardened?
18 Do you have eyes and not see; do you have ears and not hear? And do you not remember? Having eyes do you not see, and having ears do you not hear? And do you not remember? Do you have eyes but fail to see, and ears but fail to hear? And don’t you remember?
19 When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of leftovers did you collect? ” “Twelve,” they told him. When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?” They said to him, “Twelve.” When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many basketfuls of pieces did you pick up?” “Twelve,” they replied.
20 “When I broke the seven loaves for the four thousand, how many baskets full of pieces did you collect? ” “Seven,” they said. “And the seven for the four thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?” And they said to him, “Seven.” “And when I broke the seven loaves for the four thousand, how many basketfuls of pieces did you pick up?” They answered, “Seven.”
21 And he said to them, “Don’t you understand yet? ” And he said to them, “Do you not yet understand?” He said to them, “Do you still not understand?”
22 They came to Bethsaida. They brought a blind man to him and begged him to touch him. And they came to Bethsaida. And some people brought to him a blind man and begged him to touch him. They came to Bethsaida, and some people brought a blind man and begged Jesus to touch him.
23 He took the blind man by the hand and brought him out of the village. Then his eyes were opened, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly.
26 Then he sent him home, saying, “Don’t even go into the village.” And he sent him to his home, saying, “Do not even enter the village.” Jesus sent him home, saying, “Don’t even go into the village.”
27 Jesus went out with his disciples to the villages of Caesarea Philippi. 30 And he strictly warned them to tell no one about him. And he strictly charged them to tell no one about him. Jesus warned them not to tell anyone about him.
31 Then he began to teach them that it was necessary for the Son of Man to suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and scribes, be killed, and rise after three days. 36 For what does it benefit someone to gain the whole world and yet lose his life? For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?
37 What can anyone give in exchange for his life? For what can a man give in return for his soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?
38 For whoever is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.” For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.” If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”
