1	But on the morrow of the sabbath, very early indeed in the morning, they came to the tomb, bringing the aromatic spices which they had prepared.	But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. 5	And as they were filled with fear and bowed their faces to the ground, they said to them, Why seek ye the living one among the dead? In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead?
6	He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spoke to you, being yet in Galilee,	He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee,	He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee:
7	saying, The Son of man must be delivered up into the hands of sinners, and be crucified, and rise the third day.	that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise.”	The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ “
8	And they remembered his words;	And they remembered his words,	Then they remembered his words.

12	But Peter, rising up, ran to the sepulchre, and stooping down he sees the linen clothes lying there alone, and went away home, wondering at what had happened.	But Peter rose and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he saw the linen cloths by themselves; and he went home marveling at what had happened.	Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves, and he went away, wondering to himself what had happened.
13	And behold, two of them were going on the same day to a village distant sixty stadia from Jerusalem, called Emmaus;	That very day two of them were going to a village named Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem,	Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem.
14	and they conversed with one another about all these things which had taken place.	and they were talking with each other about all these things that had happened.	They were talking with each other about everything that had happened.
15	And it came to pass as they conversed and reasoned, that Jesus himself drawing nigh, went with them;	While they were talking and discussing together, Jesus himself drew near and went with them. 17	And he said to them, What discourses are these which pass between you as ye walk, and are downcast?	And he said to them, “What is this conversation that you are holding with each other as you walk?” And they stood still, looking sad. 18	And one [of them], named Cleopas, answering said to him, Thou sojournest alone in Jerusalem, and dost not know what has taken place in it in these days?	Then one of them, named Cleopas, answered him, “Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?”	One of them, named Cleopas, asked him, “Are you the only one visiting Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?”
19	And he said to them, What things? And they said to him, The things concerning Jesus the Nazaraean, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people;	And he said to them, “What things?” And they said to him, “Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, a man who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people,	“What things?” he asked. “About Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied. “He was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people.
20	and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him up to [the] judgment of death and crucified him.	and how our chief priests and rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and crucified him.	The chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him;
21	But we had hoped that he was [the one] who is about to redeem Israel. But then, besides all these things, it is now, to-day, the third day since these things took place.	But we had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things happened.	but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. And what is more, it is the third day since all this took place.
22	And withal, certain women from amongst us astonished us, having been very early at the sepulchre,	Moreover, some women of our company amazed us. They were at the tomb early in the morning,	In addition, some of our women amazed us. They went to the tomb early this morning
23	and, not having found his body, came, saying that they also had seen a vision of angels, who say that he is living.	and when they did not find his body, they came back saying that they had even seen a vision of angels, who said that he was alive.	but didn’t find his body. They came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels, who said he was alive.
24	And some of those with us went to the sepulchre, and found it so, as the women also had said, but him they saw not.	Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but him they did not see.”	Then some of our companions went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but they did not see Jesus.”
25	And he said to them, O senseless and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken!	And he said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken!	He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken!
26	Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into his glory?	Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?”	Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?”
27	And having begun from Moses and from all the prophets, he interpreted to them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.	And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.	And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.
28	And they drew near to the village where they were going, and he made as though he would go farther.	So they drew near to the village to which they were going. 29	And they constrained him, saying, Stay with us, for it is toward evening and the day is declining. And he entered in to stay with them.	but they urged him strongly, saying, “Stay with us, for it is toward evening and the day is now far spent.” So he went in to stay with them.	But they urged him strongly, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over.” So he went in to stay with them.
30	And it came to pass as he was at table with them, having taken the bread, he blessed, and having broken it, gave it to them.	When he was at table with them, he took the bread and blessed and broke it and gave it to them.	When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them.

32	And they said to one another, Was not our heart burning in us as he spoke to us on the way, [and] as he opened the scriptures to us? 33	And rising up the same hour, they returned to Jerusalem. And they found the eleven, and those with them, gathered together,	And they rose that same hour and returned to Jerusalem. 34	saying, The Lord is indeed risen and has appeared to Simon.	saying, “The Lord has risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon!”	and saying, “It is true! The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon.”
35	And they related what [had happened] on the way, and how he was made known to them in the breaking of bread.	Then they told what had happened on the road, and how he was known to them in the breaking of the bread.	Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognized by them when he broke the bread.
36	And as they were saying these things, he himself stood in their midst, and says to them, Peace [be] unto you.	As they were talking about these things, Jesus himself stood among them, and said to them, “Peace to you!”	While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.”
37	But they, being confounded and being frightened, supposed they beheld a spirit.	But they were startled and frightened and thought they saw a spirit.	They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost.
38	And he said to them, Why are ye troubled? and why are thoughts rising in your hearts?	And he said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your hearts?	He said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds?
39	behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Handle me and see, for a spirit has not flesh and bones as ye see me having.	See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me, and see. For a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.”	Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.”
40	And having said this he shewed them his hands and his feet.	And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet.	When he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet.
41	But while they yet did not believe for joy, and were wondering, he said to them, Have ye anything here to eat?	And while they still disbelieved for joy and were marveling, he said to them, “Have you anything here to eat?”	And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?”
42	And they gave him part of a broiled fish and of a honeycomb;	They gave him a piece of broiled fish,	They gave him a piece of broiled fish,
43	and he took it and ate before them.	and he took it and ate before them.	and he took it and ate it in their presence.
44	And he said to them, These [are] the words which I spoke to you while I was yet with you, that all that is written concerning me in the law of Moses and prophets and psalms must be fulfilled.	Then he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.”	He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.”
45	Then he opened their understanding to understand the scriptures,	Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures,	Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.
46	and said to them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved the Christ to suffer, and to rise from among the dead the third day;	and said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead,	He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day,
47	and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name to all the nations beginning at Jerusalem.	and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.	and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
48	And ye are witnesses of these things.	You are witnesses of these things.	You are witnesses of these things.
49	And behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you; but do ye remain in the city till ye be clothed with power from on high.	And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”	I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”
50	And he led them out as far as Bethany, and having lifted up his hands, he blessed them.	And he led them out as far as Bethany, and lifting up his hands he blessed them.	When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them.
51	And it came to pass as he was blessing them, he was separated from them and was carried up into heaven.	While he blessed them, he parted from them and was carried up into heaven.	While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven.
52	And they, having done him homage, returned to Jerusalem with great joy,	And they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy,	Then they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy.
