NLT Parallel NASB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT GRK]
New Living TranslationNew American Standard Bible 1995
As Jesus was leaving the Temple that day, one of his disciples said, “Teacher, look at these magnificent buildings! Look at the impressive stones in the walls.”1As He was going out of the temple, one of His disciples said to Him, "Teacher, behold what wonderful stones and what wonderful buildings!"
Jesus replied, “Yes, look at these great buildings. But they will be completely demolished. Not one stone will be left on top of another!”2And Jesus said to him, "Do you see these great buildings? Not one stone will be left upon another which will not be torn down."
Later, Jesus sat on the Mount of Olives across the valley from the Temple. Peter, James, John, and Andrew came to him privately and asked him,3As He was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew were questioning Him privately,
“Tell us, when will all this happen? What sign will show us that these things are about to be fulfilled?”4"Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign when all these things are going to be fulfilled?"
Jesus replied, “Don’t let anyone mislead you,5And Jesus began to say to them, "See to it that no one misleads you.
for many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah.’ They will deceive many.6"Many will come in My name, saying, 'I am He!' and will mislead many.
And you will hear of wars and threats of wars, but don’t panic. Yes, these things must take place, but the end won’t follow immediately.7"When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be frightened; those things must take place; but that is not yet the end.
Nation will go to war against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in many parts of the world, as well as famines. But this is only the first of the birth pains, with more to come.8"For nation will rise up against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be earthquakes in various places; there will also be famines. These things are merely the beginning of birth pangs.
“When these things begin to happen, watch out! You will be handed over to the local councils and beaten in the synagogues. You will stand trial before governors and kings because you are my followers. But this will be your opportunity to tell them about me.9"But be on your guard; for they will deliver you to the courts, and you will be flogged in the synagogues, and you will stand before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them.
For the Good News must first be preached to all nations.10"The gospel must first be preached to all the nations.
But when you are arrested and stand trial, don’t worry in advance about what to say. Just say what God tells you at that time, for it is not you who will be speaking, but the Holy Spirit.11"When they arrest you and hand you over, do not worry beforehand about what you are to say, but say whatever is given you in that hour; for it is not you who speak, but it is the Holy Spirit.
“A brother will betray his brother to death, a father will betray his own child, and children will rebel against their parents and cause them to be killed.12"Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and have them put to death.
And everyone will hate you because you are my followers. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.13"You will be hated by all because of My name, but the one who endures to the end, he will be saved.
“The day is coming when you will see the sacrilegious object that causes desecration standing where he should not be.” (Reader, pay attention!) “Then those in Judea must flee to the hills.14"But when you see the ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION standing where it should not be (let the reader understand), then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains.
A person out on the deck of a roof must not go down into the house to pack.15"The one who is on the housetop must not go down, or go in to get anything out of his house;
A person out in the field must not return even to get a coat.16and the one who is in the field must not turn back to get his coat.
How terrible it will be for pregnant women and for nursing mothers in those days.17"But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days!
And pray that your flight will not be in winter.18"But pray that it may not happen in the winter.
For there will be greater anguish in those days than at any time since God created the world. And it will never be so great again.19"For those days will be a time of tribulation such as has not occurred since the beginning of the creation which God created until now, and never will.
In fact, unless the Lord shortens that time of calamity, not a single person will survive. But for the sake of his chosen ones he has shortened those days.20"Unless the Lord had shortened those days, no life would have been saved; but for the sake of the elect, whom He chose, He shortened the days.
“Then if anyone tells you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah,’ or ‘There he is,’ don’t believe it.21"And then if anyone says to you, 'Behold, here is the Christ'; or, 'Behold, He is there'; do not believe him;
For false messiahs and false prophets will rise up and perform signs and wonders so as to deceive, if possible, even God’s chosen ones.22for false Christs and false prophets will arise, and will show signs and wonders, in order to lead astray, if possible, the elect.
Watch out! I have warned you about this ahead of time!23"But take heed; behold, I have told you everything in advance.
“At that time, after the anguish of those days, the sun will be darkened, the moon will give no light,24"But in those days, after that tribulation, THE SUN WILL BE DARKENED AND THE MOON WILL NOT GIVE ITS LIGHT,
the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken.25AND THE STARS WILL BE FALLING from heaven, and the powers that are in the heavens will be shaken.
Then everyone will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds with great power and glory.26"Then they will see THE SON OF MAN COMING IN CLOUDS with great power and glory.
And he will send out his angels to gather his chosen ones from all over the world —from the farthest ends of the earth and heaven.27"And then He will send forth the angels, and will gather together His elect from the four winds, from the farthest end of the earth to the farthest end of heaven.
“Now learn a lesson from the fig tree. When its branches bud and its leaves begin to sprout, you know that summer is near.28"Now learn the parable from the fig tree: when its branch has already become tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near.
In the same way, when you see all these things taking place, you can know that his return is very near, right at the door.29"Even so, you too, when you see these things happening, recognize that He is near, right at the door.
I tell you the truth, this generation will not pass from the scene before all these things take place.30"Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place.
Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will never disappear.31"Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.
“However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows.32"But of that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone.
And since you don’t know when that time will come, be on guard! Stay alert !33"Take heed, keep on the alert; for you do not know when the appointed time will come.
“The coming of the Son of Man can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. When he left home, he gave each of his slaves instructions about the work they were to do, and he told the gatekeeper to watch for his return.34"It is like a man away on a journey, who upon leaving his house and putting his slaves in charge, assigning to each one his task, also commanded the doorkeeper to stay on the alert.
You, too, must keep watch! For you don’t know when the master of the household will return—in the evening, at midnight, before dawn, or at daybreak.35"Therefore, be on the alert-- for you do not know when the master of the house is coming, whether in the evening, at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning--
Don’t let him find you sleeping when he arrives without warning.36in case he should come suddenly and find you asleep.
I say to you what I say to everyone: Watch for him!”37"What I say to you I say to all, 'Be on the alert!'"
